Isilmeriel we are running a concerto competition this year in my orchestra biggrin , the winner gets to perform the piece with the full orchestra as accompaniment in the spring concert. Yeah, our first chair violinist is using the chamber orchestra as his accompaniment for his solo...he's playing the four seasons, aww. domokun domokun domokun

Nope, at my school we don't have to do "juries"
But, my orchestra teacher is a huge pain. She shows favorism and you get your seat depending on how much she likes you. You're report card grade is the same as well. Last marking period, I got a 93 in orchestra, we didn't even take a skill test. I really hate her, but that's a different story.

Kalile Alako At the Las Vegas Acadamy, we have something called 'Juries,' which are our semester exam. We sometimes get seated on them as well. A jury is when you pick a piece at the beginning of the semester, and work on it until the end of the sememster when you play it for the whole class, sans music. The teacher and all the specialized teachers (specific for bass, specific for cello, etc) grade you. This year I'm playing Violin Concert No. 23 in G Major, by Viotti. It's not that hard, but it's mine. xp I'm just curious if any other schools have that policy, and if anyone has any horror stories to share. xd I personally hate juries, because I'm somewhere in the middle of my orchestra and I always get nervous. Yes, here at the conservatory it's exacly the same, but here you are alone with those teachers and you have to study more peaces.

juries are the spawn of satan (attends LVA too). blech on them. but they do make you practice and bla bla bla. i always screw up royally on my scale(s). they're evil... it's the first thing we have to do when performing. bleh... but my jury piece usually turns out alright... and! for my senior year (06-07) i've got both of mah juries chosen! so?! do you have your first jury chosen Kalile? anyhoo, i'll be doin Kalile's old jury: Concerto No. 5 in A major by Mozart... but! mah finale piece for the past 4 years is gonna be a gypsy piece that's all super hard with left and right hand pizz. and crazay bowings and shifting xd i can't wait lol blaugh ... heart
