Well to be fair, it is never said exactly what Orden could do other than grant the player power over life and death. It is also continuously referred to as being a gateway, mostly for the Keeper, but what if Terry, who had known the end of the series from the beginning, had thought of Orden as a gateway to a new world that Richard created. So that may mean, in my opinion, that Orden was created for Richard's purpose. Yes Orden, from what I remember, was meant as a one time use deal. That doesn't mean that Richard, who has access to the Temple of the Winds, couldn't just recreate the three boxes of Orden to use them again. The way I see it, they grant their power to the player during the time that they are opened. Henceforth, when Richard removed the Sword of Truth from the box, he also removed the key that kept Orden and all of its power open.
And let's not forget that Terry has mentioned over and over that there are still many stories that he wishes to tell about Richard and Kahlan. It's just a matter of time when he chooses to begin writing those stories for us.
