"Kerrigan..." Darkfire said, getting used to the word. It felt odd and unwelcome on her lips; she had never known the names of any of her victims. The only names she knew were that of her "herdmates," the annoying lessers that had followed her and tried speaking with her. They, too, had the sweet blood she so hated, but not as sweet as his.

"Now, listen, Kerrigan, and listen closely," she said darkly, her unusually velvet voice floating the short distance between them. She moved so her face was mere inches from his, her emerald eyes locked on his fiery ones. "I'm not going to kill you, which is odd for me. But no creature on this earth is allowed to find out about my mercy." She spat the last word, as though it made her mouth burn by just saying it.

She strode away from the stallion purposefully now, her spaded tail swinging behind her almost angrily. She couldn't believe how low she had sunk, from killing anything that crossed her path the day before, to sparing a stallion's life because he tasted funny. It wasn't amusing. It pissed her off.

I think you've gone soft, Kalona-Darkfire sneered. Unicorn-Darkfire was still silent, which meant that Kalona-Darkfire had no clue what it was babbling on about.

"You're going to help me get what I want," Darkfire said finally, whirling around to face the stallion again. She spread her wings out, her unicorn horn glinting in the sunlight and her wild mane blowing slightly in the breeze. "You're going to help me corrupt the next generation, or the next time I attack you, you'll lose more than just a flap of flesh." Her voice was low and dark, her eyes burning with an inner fire that she was sure could hammer the point home. Though she appeared completely aggressive, her eyebrow was raised, and her lips were curled in her poison smile.

He could not help but feel disappointed. He'd quite been looking forward to that exquisite agony that would come before his final moments.

With an inward sigh, he dulled his senses and retreated once more, retreating into that holier-than-thou pose of arrogance and boredom.

"To..." he paused, faltering in his usual scathing response for the first time in what seemed like an eternity. He bit back his retort as his thoughts turned inwards, carefully weighing her words.

An opportunity for corruption.
An opportunity to blemish that which is pure, that which grates on his very nerves, that vexatious sincerity that should be wiped from existence.
Perhaps even... no, it was too early to think about those maybes.
And all he had to do... was obey this halfbreed.

His eyes chilled as he swept a courteous bow, satiric mockery seething from his every pore. "As you wish."

Even though she could tell that Kerrigan wasn't entirely on her side, merely following her lead for his own gain, Darkfire couldn't hold back a smirk. She didn't need the lesser, awfully-sweet stallion by any means, but she thought, at least for a moment, that he would make a brilliant corrupter. He seemed to her to be a manipulator; good at molding the minds of the less intelligent trash that seemed to take very well to the land. Yet, she felt like she had a small grasp of control over him; after all, it was she that invited him to corrupt, not the other way around.

Twisting her tail in and around itself like a constrictor around its prey, Darkfire narrowed her eyes and stared up into the sky. Nothing appealed to her, nothing called out to her that made her want to travel. A leisurely day was not what she wanted, however. She wanted to test the stallion's loyalty.

"Now, Kerrigan," she spat impatiently, shaking the thoughts from her head. Her emerald eyes were drawn to his face, but kept dancing off and scanning her surroundings; she was beginning to get a tad jumpy, a little excited. "As our first official Act of Corruption, what do you say to me teaching you how to hunt?" She flashed her sickly dangerous smile, pointed teeth glittering in the sun, as she spoke in her velvet voice. Might as well corrupt the stallion while she could.

Darkfire pulled her wings back to her body, shaking them slowly as she made herself more comfortable. She no longer felt the need to feel as intimidating to the stallion as she had before. She already held him in her taloned grasp; now all she had to do was poke him in the direction she desired.

I'm so proud of you, mocked Kalona-Darkfire. Controlling a lesser. Might as well start eating grass now.

I still think it's disgusting, murmured Unicorn-Darkfire from the deepest confines of her subconcious. Darkfire couldn't help but laugh on the inside; though Unicorn-Darkfire was back, it was scared.

Oh, in that case, please continue, sneered Kalona-Darkfire.

His blood raced.

To hunt. To pursue a creature with intent of harm, his prey's wail of horror as he closed in, hysteria setting in as their life flashed before widened eyes, to rind limb from limb, a spray of crimson staining the ground, fangs...

A sneer curled his lips upward, revealing pearly white teeth that lacked the pointed edge required to tear flesh... they were fit only for grinding vegetation.

"If you can manage to instruct me on such matters, you have conquered Nature itself." His acerbic reply highlighted his one downfall: for all his blatant cruelty, for all his desire to corrupt, to control, to wipe out of existence... he was a Regular.

He had brought down small prey before, minuscule woodland creatures that lacked the sense to stay quiet when he needed rest, but he had not been able to stomach their flesh. He had left their bodies to rot.

Even so... he had been downright clumsy in his attempts, at least when compared to his normal lithe grace.

Despite his caustic and biting response, his eyes flashed with sanguine malice. What would come of this half-breed siren's suggestion?

To think...

That delicious shiver ran down his spine once more. Ohh... this mare was fun.

The acid and bile rose in Darkfire's throat as she thought of what Kerrigan was forced to eat; grass, leaves, vegetation. Never knowing the satisfaction of killing a magnificent beast and stripping it of its flesh, drinking its lifeblood and savoring the warmth of a fresh kill.

"We can work our way up," Darkfire spat, her surprisingly velvet voice just barely floating over to Kerrigan in that seductive way she had managed to master in just a few attempts. She allowed her eyelids to close slightly, and she looked up through her forelock to meet Kerrigan's gaze.

More bile rose up as she realized that she was coming to like this pathetic excuse for a lesser.

Darkfire's gone sofffffttttt, teased Kalona-Darkfire, and the ruby Unikalona suddenly had an image of a celebrating Kalona dance across her mind's eye. But another image pushed it out of the way; Darkfire standing on a high mountain, lightning crackling behind her and thunder rolling out over the desolate wasteland below. Kerrigan stood below her, his gaze intense and blood smeared on his hooves and teeth. And best of all, the lessers on the ground-- way, way down there-- were all fighting. For her. For them.

You're scary, Unicorn-Darkfire whispered.

You're amazing, Kalona-Darkfire snarled happily.

Darkfire strode up to Kerrigan, coming within an inch of his face before breathing, "Unless you don't think you can do it." She arched one perfect eyebrow, her lidded-eyes boring into Kerrigan's, and flipped her forelock from her face. She looked, felt, and gave off the feeling of being dangerous; a natural high. She felt unstoppable.

Delicious.

His smoldering gaze traced every succulent curve of her body, lingering upon the cruel talons and savage spade-tipped tail, caressing every sinuous ruby fleck. Such exquisite menace; such savage elegance.

Such sinister allure.

"I trust you will find me to be a most..." his cultured voice held a reverberating tone of truculent desire that he did not even bother to hide "... enthusiastic... student."

He tore his carnal gaze away from the crimson mare, peering at the neighboring brush with aloof nonchalance. If there was one thing he would not do, it was beg. His twisted sense of honor forbade any...

Screw honor.

"Shall we begin?" Hellfire eyes flashed towards the half-breed seductress, cold rancor shining through sadism.

Darkfire pretended not to notice Kerrigan's eyes all over her, but she noted it for later. Might as well make him pay for it while she was attempting to teach him how to be a real man.

That's disgusting, Kalona-Darkfire shivered, making mock-retching noises. A bloody lesser, with his eyes practically eatin' you up. Revolting.

I have to agree with you there, at least with the disgusting part, Unicorn-Darkfire managed to add to the conversation.

Shut up.

Okay.

Darkfire allowed her poison-ivy smile to slip back onto her face, fitting the sharp fangs and wicked expression like a glove. She had to admit, she was laying it on pretty thick. But this stallion seemed just as thick, and she was glad it was working.

"An enthusiastic student is nothing without a knowledgable teacher," she said, winking-- something very unusual for her-- and turned to look at the bushes.

"Let's begin, then," she said, her ears swiveling forward to listen to the soft murmur of footsteps in the drying leaves. She heard something light, quick; a mouse, or perhaps a small rat. There were heavier sounds as well, a raccoon and a badger, further into the forest. She decided to give him a little bit of wiggle room by allowing him to decide.

"Mice and rats are quick, but easy to kill... if you can catch them. Don't taste too wonderful, however," she began slowly, keeping her gaze fixed in the forest. "Raccoons are slower, but tend to fight back just a little more. And badgers... well, let's wait on that one, shall we? We don't want our little prodigy Kerrigan getting an owie on his nose right away." She glanced back at him, showing her pointed teeth in a grin to show her sarcasm. "Your pick."

A brief, amused snort met her blatantly provocative wink. He would have laughed, had he not been so riled. What was this mare thinking? It was almost as though she wanted him to...

The stallion paused, motionless.

Maybe ... no. It was too early to think about those maybes.

His thoughts turned inwards, and he examined his reaction with fastidious attention to detail.

He was... attracted... to this mare. To this ruby-red, blood-thirsty half-breed. She should have disgusted him- and she had, at first. Her tainted blood. Her ebony horn, testament to her sordid bloodline. Impure, sullied, vile, obscene, grotesque chimera of nature.

... and yet...

This half-breed was so much more.

He made a show of considering her words. "The masked scavenger, then." Bigger animals bled more.

Darkfire processed Kerrigan's response slowly. Choosing the raccoon meant that he wasn't up for an easy kill, and that he was interested in tasting some relatively tasty flesh. Deer and other grazing animals were always better than the raccoons, with their creepy two-legger-like hands, but even they were nothing compared to a predator. Killing and devouring a puma, or a wolf, was always the Unikalona's favorite.

She smiled and bowed her head low in respect. At least he wasn't going to be a total wimp and go for the rat, and not a total I'm-going-to-impress-the-hot-chick macho man by going for the badger. Impressive, the stallion's mind was... when it wasn't so focused on her, and even then, it interested her. She'd never admit it aloud, but the stallion interested her; the desire to be something more than a grass-chewing lesser, to become something that deserved to be feared. She'd never needed to try.

"The technique," she began in a rushed whisper, crouching low and pulling her wings close to her sides, angling her horn towards where she heard the raccoon rustling around in a berry bush. "Is using the element of surprise to your advantage. We're downwind, and raccoons... well, they're pretty stupid." She managed a quick smile in Kerrigan's direction. She wasn't as bad of a teacher as she thought she would be.

"Now, what you're going to do is listen for the bloody bugger's breathing; pinpoint where the throat is before you even see it," she continued, inching away from the forest and motioning for the stallion to take her place. "Grab it between your teeth, just around the throat, and pierce the jugular. If you can't do that, as your teeth are meant to grind, snap its neck by shaking it once or twice." She offered him a reassuring look. "If you can't kill it, I will. And then we'll move onto our lesson in eating meat."

Both of Darkfire's inner voices were silent, listening intently to the forest and the raccoon. The bird was not much of a feast, and had left them both irritable and hungry. If the stallion was too much of a wimp to finish the raccoon, it'd be a nice little snack until Darkfire could go find herself better prey.

Kerrigan's hellfire eyes smoldered, partially glazed, as he listened to the half-breed's careful instruction. He moved as he was bidden, fully surrendering himself to her tutelage... for the time being.

His ears perked as he listened to the raccoon's scuffling, his world narrowing to his own breathing and that of the professedly stupid creature. His muscles were taut, tensed with barely restrained fervor as he contemplated the exact location of his condemned prey.

The raccoon snuffled about, waddling forwards and plucking berries from the branches with single-minded intensity. Its cheeks bulging with its juicy bounty, the small woodland creature shuffled out of the bush, contemplating finding a cool stream to wash its paws in and...
Its beady black eyes flashed open as death incarnate loomed down over it; its fur rising along its back, it drew back its lips to let out a feral hiss...

Kerrigan's jaw snapped shut about the raccoon's neck. He snarled as the velvety taste of silken fur and sun-ripened berries met his darting tongue, and with a quick jerk of his powerful neck he sent the creature flying into the air. It landed to Darkfire's left, and the enraged stallion twisted about, hooves as cold and deadly as a blade carved of onyx beating the carcass into a bloody pulp.

... what he lacked in fineness he made up for in sheer enthusiasm.

Darkfire watched Kerrigan stalk, and then completely pulverize, the raccoon with a sense of almost motherly-pride. Well, not quite motherly, but no other words seemed to fit. He had followed her instructions, trusted them entirely; what if she had told him to roll around on the ground and cry like a bird to try to frighten the raccoon? Would he have listened to her then?

Was it trust, or his own instincts?

Darkfire spread her wing out in front of Kerrigan to stop him from destroying what edible meat wasn't already pounded into the ground. Her face didn't portray the questions that burned behind her emerald eyes; instead, her features were relaxed in a softer version of her poison smile.

"I have to admit," she began quietly, her voice like liquid velvet. She closed the gap between them, her horn within inches of his face by the time she stopped. "I didn't think you'd actually go through with it."

Darkfire glanced down at the carcass. It didn't resemble a raccoon in the slightest; instead, it looked as though something had vomited up fur, blood, and shattered bones.

It looked delicious, if you got past the whole fur part.

I think I might be sick... whined Unicorn-Darkfire. That looks disgusting, no matter how hungry we are.

Don't ruin this for me, spat Kalona-Darkfire. I need this.

Darkfire looked back up to Kerrigan, hesitating a moment. If he had asked her why she had hesitated, she would've said because she was waiting for his reaction. But truthfully, she was shocked at how... appealing... the sight of the stallion with blood smeared on his face and hooves was. A chill swept up her spine as she remembered her vision.

"Well? Are you going to eat it, or do I have to?"

Remnants of the blood-lust that had soared through his veins only moments before lingered in his maelstrom eyes, barbaric desires viciously smothered by raucous dignity as he fought to regain some semblance of control.

The stallion stiffened at the mare's words, at her professed scrupulous doubt- at her proximity. Brutish malignity goaded him to take in her scent once more, and that fragrance mixed with the odor of fresh-split blood was enough to spur him through that inopportune urge to throttle the mare, to make her believe with every fiber of her being that he would do anything that- Well. He wasn't so foolish as to assume that he would be the victor; it was best to discard such musings before testosterone and adrenaline buried his good sense once and for all.

A slow, surly smirk curved his lips upwards, matched by a venomous glint in those still-smoldering hellfire eyes. "I do not intend to demean myself by spilling the contents of my stomach in your illustrious presence."

He would find no pleasure in devouring his mutilated kill, but to watch her feast upon that mangled body... ah, ecstasy.

Darkfire raised a brow questioningly and shrugged. Hey, free meal. All pay, no work. Even if she did have to sift through fur and bone to find the good meat.

"Suit yourself," she said smoothly, lowering her face to the ground and eyeing the carcass closely before picking through it with a hoof. Fur mixed with the inedible parts of the meat, but she was able to find a few edible organs and chunks of meat that were relatively clean, although squished and spurting.

"You really did a number on him," she said calmly, tearing a bit of flesh from the raccoon with her teeth, while holding the rest of the pile of fur and meat with her hoof. She finished her thought between mouthfuls of meat. "If you'd been hunting, I would've been more careful, however. Cleaner kill means less clean-up later."

There was only one piece of edible flesh left when Darkfire felt the familiar feeling of being full. Kalona-Darkfire was contentedly staying out of Darkfire's thoughts, and Unicorn-Darkfire had most likely gone into hiding to avoid the bloody scene. Her mind was empty, and for once, she could feel herself have complete control over her own body.

Looking down at the raccoon, Darkfire felt the stirrings of some weird new feeling. She nudged the last piece of flesh at Kerrigan, lifting her gaze to meet his. "You sure you don't want any?" she asked, no hint of sarcasm or malice in her velvety voice.

Told you she's gone soft, Kalona-Darkfire whispered cruelly, teasing Darkfire. She could swear that she heard the soft, musical laughter of a unicorn in her mind.

Snarling, Darkfire whipped away from the raccoon, away from Kerrigan. Her spade-tipped tail thrashed violently behind her, her wings spread wide and the talons on the tips flexing slightly as she extended the membranes. Her nostrils flared, her muscles rippled. She was pissed.

Whirling back around, a tornado of wrath and fury, Darkfire fixed her emerald gaze on Kerrigan. "We're done here," she spat.
