It's not that bad for speaking, but if I typed like that no-one would have a clue what I was saying!

I have a hard time understanding other people's speech sometimes, especially when they mumble, have accents, speak quickly, or have deep voices. It's worse when there is background noise confused .

I was trying at CivetMoon and thinking 'that's odd, I thought it had a space in it'. Gaia's being slightly dodgy at the moment. I just wondered what your name was.

It had no space when I signed up originally, but then I changed it because I prefer to be called just Civet. I wanted that for my SN, but it was taken.

What is your name?

Yeah, everyone in the US seems to know what ADD is, but I've never met or heard of anyone here wiht it! Most people here know what Asperger's is, but Civet Moon implyed they don't in the US.

I've met three people with ADD. One was when I was younger, a girl in my class had a sister with severe ADD. I only met her once. My friend's boyfriend has mild ADD, and another friend's younger sister has severe ADD.

And yes, everyone knows what ADD is. It seems like everyone and their kid has it nowadays rolleyes .

Not many people know about Asperger's, unless they've studied psychology. Autism is a well-known term, but people typically just think of "Rain Man," and that is the basis of their knowledge.

I suppose I could never answer that poll question properly as I don't live in the US so we have different diagnoses.

Yeah. razz Some of them are the same as in other countries, but it really depends. Some countries in Europe will hesitate to give a diagnosis for an illness that we label people with liberally over here in the US and Canada. It makes it very hard to compare illness rates Internationally!

I was trying to find out the most common mental illenss in the UK and found out that the Queen has depression! eek

Bottom to top.
The queen?...Rofl?...
I don't know what ADD is, if I were to serve as a survey point. Unless it's what the cliche/he said-she said definition.
I have no say in the UK discussion. I'll leave it at that.
Wouldn't say anything IRL. I'd just give a "Hm. "a la Samurai Champloo.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Do you mean the "pop culture" definition? If so, then same here. I can not cite the diagnostic criteria off the top of my head.

Heheh, that's a pretty good series. I've only seen to episode 7, though.

I often pull an Ayanami Rei IRL... which is basically this:

"..."

Coupled with a blank stare.

Pop culture as in: "ADD is a disorder where people can't pay attention." Yeah. That definition.
I live in East Coast USA.
I've seen some random episodes of SC at my friend Meccanica's house. I caught the "Hm." thinking during one episode. Now I do it all the time. Call me impressionable. sweatdrop

They thought I had ADHD when I was a kid. But my mom didn't make me take medication. I probably didn't have any problems, I was just your average hyper kid.

A lot of people fit the symptoms. That's the problem confused .

I think I was one of the few kids that DIDN'T fit the criteria for ADHD. I was never hyper, except after massive sugar overloads.

That's my point, M is for M+Ms. A lot of people mistake normal childhood behavior for ADHD because the behavior annoys the parents or teachers. Probably especially true in kids that are a bit more active.

And then the kids get the Ritalin and the health problems...
So I've heard.
Heck, all kids are active these days; they get this much sugar availiable to them in addition to the energy they have now... I worked with some very energetic kids way back when... it was a nightmare! gonk
"Why did you hit him?"
"He stole my toy!"
"[Kid #2], why did you steal his toy?"
"I... wanted it..."

On an other note...
I'm in the AArena!... hopefully. One of my sketches for the guild got followed through, and I might get accepted.

Yeah, I do think there are some kids that truly have ADHD. I have a part-time job tutoring kids, and you can really tell which ones probably have it. But I still think it's over-diagnosed!
