Lite-brite chuckled at her words, they were wise and true. He knew he had had friends once, now he only hoped he still had them, that his packmates lived as he lived. He remembered his alpha fondly, she was brilliant in her organization of their small bright pack. They were the Jewels of the Meadow and aptly named. Where none dared venture, they had lived and hunted. It pained him trying to remember, all he could recall were blurs of color as his packmates tried to run, and blood staining the grass.

He shook his head and snapped his attention back to Amaury. "Your words are true." His own were simple, he looked at her a long moment though, considering asking to travel with her. He had no course set, no plan on how to find his pack mates, if they even lived, if even one other had survived.

"Thank you," she said, not knowing how else to respond. She did not feel as though she needed to expound on her point. She lay in silence, gnawing at the meat between her legs, occasionally lifting her head to watch the human village from between the foliage. Her thievery had not caused much of a stir; apparently, no one had noticed one stick of meat more or less. As the sun continued to go down, the humans readied for sleep; silly animals, who couldn't see in the dark.

He ate in silence a while longer before finally blurting out his thoughts uncertain of how to skirt around his question. "Would you mind if I traveled with you?" As the words left his mouth he regretted them, he did not know if this female was truley alone.

He wondered if she had a pack, a family, friends waiting for her to come back home. He wondered if his own pack and friends thought of him now. There was the feeble fluttering of hope in his heart, and it showed in his bright pink eyes.

Already his body however was braced for rejection, he knew he was sick somehow, lacking the filters in his mind that had once made him such a sharp thinker. Now his thoughts flew about wildly like the tall grasses in a storm.

Amaury was startled by his request, so much so that she nearly choked. She had not traveled with other wolves since she left her family's pack as a young adult; the opportunity had never presented itself before.

She gave barely a thought as to why he would want to travel with her; after all, she had just won him a meal, and from the way he was eating, it seemed he had not had such a meal in awhile. But why would she want to travel with him? She was not fond of the company of other wolves. Wolves in groups made her nervous, and while she would occasionally wander with another for a few days, it was not common.

She thought back to her last wandering partner, the young adult named Abital. She had been the perfect companion: non-threatening, interested in Amaury's obsession with thievery, and ready to move on after a few days. Lite-Brite was the opposite in every way: his potential dementia made him dangerous, she knew nothing of his hobbies, and she did not think he had a pack to return home to.

Then her eyes softened. This wolf was bad in the head, and that hadn't been a risk yet. He was lost and on his own.

"I would not mind the company," she answered. He may even be in danger of dying soon, she thought, not only for selfish reasons. It would be sad to die alone...

Lite Brite grinned and felt his entire backside sway him off balance as his tail wagged. He edged a bit closer and gave her a grateful smile "I promise I won't be any trouble..." He looked down and sighed "I'm trying to find out what happened to my pack...if any of them are still alive." He murmured.

He looked back at her his pink eyes shining with gratitude, how could he help but be grateful to her, she offered him what he craved most, company. He hated the life alone, with his vivid coloring it made things even harder. And in the forest, he stood out like a sore thumb. "Amaury..." He repeated her name to himself trying to get it situated on his tongue, and into his loose mind.

Oh, my.

He hadn't mentioned he came with a mission. Amaury did not do packs.

On the other hand... poor boy. No family, and hardly a memory. The chance of them running into any of his former packmates, in this huge forest, was about a thousand to one. And, if they did find his pack, then they could take care of him, and she would be on her way again, no questions asked.

She looked at him, as he said her name. Amaury.

"Don't forget it," she grumbled, returning to her meat.

"I won't, I couldn't, it's like...hope." He murmured softly more to himself then to her. He wondered if she had hope in her heart, was she a loner, or had she too lived and lost the love of a pack or mate. He pushed the thoughts aside and sat quietly letting her finish the meat.

"What path will we take? The land is...unfamiliar to me, I will not seek to deter you from your chosen path." His words were still slightly jumbled as if his brain wasn't properly managing to send things spilling from his mouth.

His pink eyes were bright though, strangely alert, or filled with hope depending on how one wished to view them.
