Knatalie9 I do not believe in Karma. Because if I did, terrible things would happen to me all the time, constantly. You know why, because I am a SINNER, unworthy of the love of God, but yet receive it freely. No one on earth deserves the grace that God offers freely, yet we can accept it as a wonderful gift anyway. smile That cannot be karma. Technically, in order to receive forgiveness of one's sins, one is required to repent and place their faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior. This could be viewed as a method of counteracting bad karma. This occurred to me since when I studied Buddhism, I came across a school of thought that described meditation and following the Eightfold Path as a way of destroying the seeds of bad karma within the self (or something to that effect). ((I was actually impressed by your reasoning when I read your response. I just like promoting discussion. mrgreen ))

Well, at least it's proof against 'current life' karmic philosophy. Why facepalm? mrgreen Or, perhaps it's a karmic effect that we won't SEE as good karma. Maybe some of the people who lost their homes in this most recent hurricane (a bad thing by most standards) didn't know they were about to get kicked out of said homes. Now they're living somewhere else, paid for by the government (a good thing, by most standards). It's all in what we DON'T know that creates good and bad situations.

I don't believe in karma, because if we got what we deserved then we definitely would not have the love the our Lord Jesus. When Jesus died for all of our sins when we did no such thing to deserve such a gift, don't you think that's like the exact opposite of karma? i dunno just a thought :p

Well, at least it's proof against 'current life' karmic philosophy. Why facepalm? mrgreen Facepalm because karma is supposed to be fair. Karma is supposed to be a balance between bad deeds and bad consequences, good deeds and good consequences. If many bad things happen to someone over their lifetime while they spent the majority of it doing good, that is not a balance of karma within a single lifetime. It puts to rest the idea that karma pays back within a lifetime.ryuu_chan Or, perhaps it's a karmic effect that we won't SEE as good karma. Yes, but losing one's house is a separate event to living in the place paid for by the government. The first is bad, the second is good. The chance that something happening in the near future might possibly do something positively or negatively anyway is pretty much irrelevant if it doesn't happen. I don't think karma works by averages in that way.

*shrug* Just tossing things out there for the sake of discussion. As it stands, I'm just fond of both the philosophies of 'what goes around comes around' and 'no good deed goes unpunished.' 3nodding

I was making fun of people who, when other people mention that a black person is black, say "why's he/she gotta be black?" as if it is somehow wrong to take notice of and remark on the color of a person's skin (if it is done in a non-prejudicial way).
