Nani smiled softly, " Are you hungry? We can go pick some berries if you'd like, rechare our energy? Although, you seem to have a lot of it. There's mice and rabbits you can catch too.... Come on." her tail looped around his, gently tugging him so he followed. She wasn't planning on letting go anytime, either. From the back one could see just how cautiously Nani's feeting was, how there was still a slighty quake in her step. She was still nervous, but was trying very hard not to be.
Nani gently towed Shadow throgh some thick shrubery, and once it broke, there was a great amount of sunlight blaring down on them in llitle speckles. There was a gigantic tree there, bushes of furtis and nuts growing around its roots and all the way up its trunk. There were hundreds of little burrowing animal nests. Birds fluttered about joyously, chasing eachother about.
"Mama used to love this place. She called it the tree of life, because this is where she was born, and also where my siblings and I were born..." hard jab to the heart there, "Mama said that everything that passes away goes into the earth, and feeds the tree, and in return, the tre creates new life..." she took a few steps forwards, reaching out her teeth to pick a wild raspberry off of a buh to munch on it.

"Shadow?" Ark called out for his son as he trotted around with his scent. "Shadow, boy get your furry butt over here." He said, teasing of coarse. Ark wasn't a strict father but he didn't like any of his children wandering off to far. Especially his sons. Not after Ark loosing his brother for years after a hide and seek game. He suddenly caught a second scent. A young.. female. About Shadow's age? He's sighted a light patch of white helix fur that had snagged on the edge of a tree. He took a light whiff and the scent flooded him. Huh. There were children around here? Ark then boomed his voice for his son, not liking the fact that there were pups around because that meant parents with the pups, and he didn't trust it. "Shadow!"

"Sure, I guess." he said, following her. He shook his tail a little, trying to loosen her hold but game up after a few seconds. "You've caught rabbits before?" he asked, awed. He hadn't even started learning to hunt yet although recently he had started eating more solid food. He was too busy imagining his glory at hunting to notice her cautious steps and he was surprised when suddenly, everything was bathed in light. He blinked a few times to get his eyes adjusted and his breath caught when he saw the tree. His tilted his head back as far as it would go but the top was still hidden, far from sight. The sweet smell of fruits and strange nuts were everywhere along with other pups. He could even see the bird pups above and he waved at them with his tail. "Really? That must be nice... and you're mom sounds really smart." he smiled, his tounge sticking out in a light pant. He flicked his ear when he thought he heard something familiar.... After a while, he recognized it and his eyes widened in alarm. His father! "We have to hide." he told Nani quickly, clambering under a bush and dragging her with him. He didn't want to leave just yet, he was having so much fun.

Nani shook her head 'no', "No, I haven't... Da always used to catch them... I never want to hurt anything smaller than me. Da always laughed at me when I refused to eat the meat he caught..." she flushed a bit, watching a little mouse scurry past her light blue toes. She smiled softly, "She was really smart... Da told me I was a mini version of her... Oh, but she was so beautiful, I could never compare...."
And then a voice boomed through the forest, causing her fur to stand up on end. Her eyes were wide in fear as Shadow towed her into the bush. She instantly began panicking. Had that beast come back for her? How did it know Shadow? Her breath was coming out in uneven gasps as she looked about frantically. They wouldn't be safe in this bush, but the tree however....
"Follow me..." she managed out, before darting across the way and slipping right into a hole that was protected by the great amount of roots. She slid down the smoothed out tunnel, which was almos like a slide, before hitting her rump on anothe root. There was a hollowed out area underneath the tree. A fox probably used to live in here. She moved away so that Shadow would be able to slip in aswell.
Hopefully he'd hurry on over before whatever it was found them.

He thought it was strange that she didn't want to eat meat. It didn't taste that bad.... The few moments with her before replayed in his head and he remembered how scared she got. "Wait!" he called out softly. He wanted to tell her it was ok but it was too late, she had gone. He followed her into the tree, it seemed like a better hiding place than his anyways, and slid down inside. He squealed involuntarily when his nose crashed painfully into a hard root. Rubbing it, he sat up and looked around at the spacious area. "Wow, do you live here?" he asked, forgetting about his nose for the moment to sniff around. He had never heard of anyone living in a tree before.

Ark heard rustling and movement and hurried towards the sound. The smell of shadow had grown drastically, fresh as could be. "Shadow! I know where you are, now get your furry tail out here, Right. This. Instant Young Man!" Ark snapped, all the time following the scent around the are. The other pup was with him, he was sure of that. It was nearly as strong as Shadows. "I'm going to count to three young man and if your not out here before I reach three, then you can forget hunting lessons and wandering about for a while." Ark threatened, half way to the tree.

Nani was about to reply when she heard a voice, and was instantly frozen. They sounded angry. Very angry. They kept calling Shadow young man.... Some kind of twisted game? Her mind was in wrecks right now, she was so freaked out. She would never connect that it might just be Shadow's parental figure....
Nope.
Being the panicky little girl she was, she began crying. Again. And not quietly either. She was bawling her eyes out again, crying loudly out of fear, "W-we're done for!! I'm sorry Shadow!!!" she cried, shaking violently. She should've known better than to get Shadow involved. Now he was going to end in the same way as the rest of her family...
She could see the things shadow now, and she cried harder. If you thought you were about to die you know you'd probably be screaming to. She curled into herself, shaking and waiting for their impending doom....

It took Shadow a moment to notice Nani's sudden silence, as he was still running around the place, sniffing every corner. When he did notice, he perked his ears and was surprised to hear his dad so close and... threatening to take away his hunting lessons! His father had promised to teach him and his siblings when they were old enough and he couldn't wait to learn. He was about to go out to show himself when he realized he didn't know where the exit was. Did they have to crawl up the slide? He was about to ask Nani when suddenly she started crying, and loudly at that. He was startled at what she said, then remembered that she probably thought it was the monster who had ate her family. "Don't worry Nani, it's just my dad. You should meet him." he said the first part to try to calm her down, the second to try and convince her to take him outside so he wouldn't lose his hunting lessons. He looked for a flower to brush against her nose since it had worked before but there wasn't any around and so he pressed his nose against hers, hoping for the same effect.

Nani hadn't heard Shadow, and continued to sob, until she felt something soft press against her nose. Her eyes widened in shock, and she stared down Shadow's muzzle. She blushed a deep red, but managed to calm, ears gently folding back. It was.... Different, but very effective for the traumatized pup. She leaned in and nuzzled him a bit, calmnig down instantly.
What a way to calm a girl.
"He won't hurt us then?" she murmured to herself, before smiling, "O-okay, let's go...." she pushed through some roots opposite f the entrance, and there were steps. She made her way up them, grabbing Shadow's tail and pulling him along. Once out of the holw, she moved to hide behind Shadow once more. She didn't handle meeting new people well... Or rather, new adults....

"One.. Tw-" Ark's head snapped up at the sound of movement and the first thing his eyes caught was the young pink and white pup. His eyes shifted to Shade. Ark narrowed his eyes at Shadow, irritated with his son. "Oooh mister your in deep trouble.." he growled almost. Ark arched his tail eye and sharply nodded to his feet, telling Shadow to come there because he reaaaaally didn't want Ark to come get him.

Shadow was surprised at how fast she calmed down, faster than the flower even. Not knowing that pressing noses was a sign of affection, he just cocked his head curiously at her pink cheeks. "No, he won't hurt us." he confirmed before following her out. He thought the tree was amazing and would be an amazing base for secret operations and the like. He tried to tug his tail away from her so that he wouldn't be dragged backwards and hopped up the natural steps one at a time. As soon as he was out, he scampered towards his father but stopped, glancing back at Nani's cowering form. He looked again at his father and took a step towards him. He turned and looked at nani again before flattening his ears and shooting his father a defiant look. He ran back to Nani and huddled with her, shooting pleading eyes towards his father. He didn't want to lose his hunting lessons but he didn't want to leave Nani, either.

Nani whimpered the moment she laid eyes on the older helix. He certainly didn't look friendly. She let out a whine as Shadow left her, and watched as he seemed to be.... Uncertain. He kept looking back from her to his father. Her ears folded back as she tucked into herself to hide from the big male, as felt ready to burst into tears again...
But then Shadow was back with her, close to her. Nani felt a rush of relief flow over her as she cuddled into Shadow, hiding her face from the scary wolf that was Shadow's father. Her ears flattened as she pressed her face into the black helix's armpit. She trembled slightly, feeling a chill rush over her.

Ark's muzzle wrinkled as he growled again, arching his tail more, ears folded back. "Shadow. Get. Your. Fuzzy. a**. Over. Here. Right. This. Instant." Ark wasn't much for being a potty mouth but this was just to much. Not only had he freaked about loosing his son but now, he was defying him right to Ark's face. Ark's eyes narrowed more and his fur puffed out some. He didn't believe any of his children had seen him like this. He just hoped it would knock into Shadow's head so Ark wouldn't have to extract real punishment.

Shadow glared at his father. Couldn't he see that he was scaring Nani? He was starting to get scared and his paws were trembling but he stayed put, a large pout on his features. He decided it was best if he didn't say 'no' right to his father's face but he had to do something, or else he really would get a beating. "But Papa," he started, raising his head a little so his small voice could he heard better. "She needs me." His father was kinder to females and he hoped mentioning Nani, a female pup like his sister, Aura, would calm him down at least a little. He wrapped his tail around Nani protectively to show his father that he wouldn't leave her alone.

Nani at her name, Nani looked up innocently at Shadow, before looking to the other and dropping her head right back down. Shadow was protecting her, even though there was the chance that he'd get in deep trouble.
"Shadow...." she whimpered, but she wa all choked up and frightened. She couldn't speak the words thank you in the state she was in. She gave a tremble of relief as she felt his tail wrap around her, and a tiny sigh escaped from her lips. Knowing Shadow was there made her feel much better, and stopped her from breaking down then and there.
