Efreet's tired eyes lifted and he gave a loud moan. "Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh." He stood up and stared at the pup as the rain began to fall harder and harder, thunder breaking the air. He shook himself. "Uh...little pup. Go home." he said. "This is not safe weather and I can't be responsible for any pup-related fatalities. Now beat it!"

His words seemed to fall on deaf ears. The little pup was drenched in rain water, but beaming.

"You gotta try it! It's uh, water vole. Papa catches them sometimes and they taste super, super, super good!" His tail wagged, despite the weight of wet fur, and he looked at the adult expectantly.

"You're gonna give me a title, right? Right?"

Efreet snarled coldly and turned to the pup. How he desired to break his neck...easy, efreet. Self control. Remember what happened last time. Think of it. Deep breath. He guided his mind and grabbed the food, chomping it down. He had not tried water vole yet. It tasted a bit like alge and mud, but it did have a vibrant taste.

For a long moment, he held the cub's eye. "Alright, warrior. You shall be known as....Sir Whelp!"

"But, heyyyyyy, that ain't very nice! I'm better 'n a whelp!" He wailed. "I caught that whole water vole all by myself! I really did! You're just jealous!"

He thought better of insulting the larger wolf, since he could give titles, after all. Maybe he could convince him to give him a better one. "An' I could catch way more than that, too! It's not like I brought back a bug!"

"Take down a deer by yourself and then you will have my respect." he growled, standing once more. "Until that day, let me be, pup!" he barked savagly, heading away as the rain hammered down.

Joska flopped down on his haunches and his wide eyes squenched and welled with tears. Not only was this wolf very, very not nice... He couldn't remember which way home was. How could he of been so stupid! He was always careful to remember the direction, but he had been so eager to please and prove his mettle.

"Ah-ah-aI d-d-don't know whu-whu-where home is!" He practically wailed as the stranger began to stalk off.

Efreet turned. "You...oh god...you're not gunna cry are you!?" he said in a defeated voice. He sighed and looked about for the parents, but a thick fog had rolled in with the rain...Maybe...if he looked after the pup for a while, he could be rid of it forever. Its parents wouldn't be pleased of their son wandering so far off.

"Come on, whelp." he said. "Stay close to me. I'll get you home... My name is Efreet."

Suddenly the big, mean wolf didn't seem so big and so mean. He was offering to help and even gave his name for real, this time. That was enough to keep the pup from bursting into a full blown crying session.

"Y-y-y-you, will?" He sniffled and suddenly he seemed back to his regular self, though his posture expressed some worry.

"Efreet? That's interesting! Hello, Efreet, I'm Joska!" He completely forgot he had already introduced himself.

Efreet sighed. "I know. You told me. Just...keep the cuddly cub stuff away from me. Buck up. No more tears or whining." He nudged him. "Hold my tail if you must... We'll find a place to sleep until this fog passes."

He was clearly most definitely not all bad. He was just big, cool, and tough. But most of all tough. He had to be a real warrior! Suddenly little Joska felt in awe and his jaw hung open as he watched the older wolf, then quickly bounded after him to keep up. He couldn't and wouldn't cry. He had to show this wolf that he was really brave.

"You're awesome!"

Efreet couldn't help but smile and he almost said "I know."

He walked a bit through the fog, his orange fur lighting the cloud up like a beacon. He found a thick fur with a clear spot and broke some branches off the bottom. They were soft and gentle. He laid down on them, watching the cub.

"Hungry?" he asked.

The playfull, inquisitive little runt plopped down next to Efreet and looked up at him with curious eyes. He really was the best wolf ever, second only to Papa and Mama! At the mentioning of food, his stomach gave a rather hungry growl, which caused him to feel an overwhelming embarassment.

"Yeah, a bit..." He replied almost hesitantly.

He stood up. "Stay." he ordered and padded away into the fog.

He sniffed, trying to ebb through the fog with his sense of smell. He jumped violently as he heard a twig break and he snarled aggressivly, ears flattening and hair raising. But it was nothing but a narrow hare. He lowered, slid forwards, and tackled the hare. There was a snap and blood filled the air. He used his sense of smell again, returning to the pup and dropping the hare on the grass. "Eat." he said, sitting.

Joska's little tummy growled again and again as he waited for Efreet to return... He wouldn't leave again 'cos he was tired, right? He really was coming this time, right?

The longer the older wolf took the more and more worried Joska became... Until Efreet returned with the dead hare. The pup's tail thumped wildly and he dove into the meat right away. He was a little older and was juuuuust about completely weaned from his mother.

"Fank oo!" He forced out his manners wile eating hungerly.

He nodded and sat down, staring at Joska as he ate. "Spare a little bit. You don't know when you'll be hungry again and this fog is dead awful to hunt in." he said, streching.
