Ossie was more used to solitary hunting methods, so the scare tactic was a bit new to the young Scout. Her family was well known for hunting, so Fireflight must of known this would work, or why else would she risk it? The Scout blinked, almost baffled for a second, but let the young Hunter boss her, only because she didn't want to look like a fool and screw up.

The unfortunate creature bolted forward out of fear and Ossie found herself bracing in the event that it shot left or right. To catch it she would have to time her plummet perfectly and there were so many factors that could mess the whole affair up. She clutched the tree limb tightly under paw and narrowed her golden eyes as the hare zigzagged towards her, then made the plunge with her talons outstretched.

Yes! The plan was working! Fira could barely contain her excitement as she hooted again, scaring the creature towards her waiting friend. This was a tactic her father had used to help her hunt. You had to always be ready as a Hunter. If your prey shot out from underneath a bush or came shooting towards you you had to be able to catch it! It was a good exercise for teamwork, though, and even though she wasn't the one who would grab the hare, the whole process was thrilling.

With a powerful beat of her wings she landed on a nearby tree, ear tufts twitching as she waited for the results of the capture. Did she get it? Was their hunt a success? After several minutes of silence, curiousity got the best of her and Fireflight called, "Did you get it Ossie?" She hopped from one foot to the other on the branch, eager to hear the reply.

Her stomach rose in her throat she made her decent, but felt a wave of relief as she slammed into the creature and seized it in her talons with full force. She gave a thrilled hoot in response to Fireflight's question and lifted off with a push and powerful beats of her wings.

She landed hastily beside the young Hunter and grinned broadly as she presented the dead creature with her Will. "Dinner is served!"

Yeah! Fireflight gave an excited call as she was joined by her friend. Even as Ossie landed she constantly shifted her weight from foot to foot, clearly thrilled by their teamwork. "Nice catch! You'd make a pretty good Hunter!" She grinned broadly. It was a very nice rabbit. They were lucky to have caught it. However, now that it was caught, they had to decide what to do with it.

"Shall we share?"

Osprey shifted slightly under the praise, then shrugged it off. "Teamwork! You did a good job, too." Her feathers fluffed comfortably and her eartufts laid back in a relaxed state. Things were good and the night had been so exciting! She couldn't help but shift back and forth on her paws with delight. It was a good catch, but it was so much more exciting when hunting with someone else. Someone else she could chatter on with, anyways.

"Share it, of course!" She chuckled as she dropped the hare between them.

Fireflight preened inwardly at the praise. Teamwork was always harder to do as a Hunter, and for once she was thankful for her dad's lessons when she was little. It had helped her connect with her new friend on a level that she normally wouldn't have thought of. Perhaps hunting with friends would become her new pastime. She might even ask her sister if she wanted to tag along.

"Awesome!" Still grinning, she bit off a chunk of the rabbit with her beak and swallowed. She hadn't had rabbit in a while, and she was instantly reminded why she enjoyed it. "So you've been assigned to these parts? How long are you staying?" A little conversation over dinner never hurt anybody.

"Yup! It's a pretty short assignment, though. I'll be leaving in a few nights." She tore a chunk from the delicious catch and swallowed it hastily so she could continue speaking. It was a wonder she didn't talk with her beak full, what with her eagerness to talk with Fireflight.

"I been thinking about tryin' to snag some territory out here, when I start trying to win my own. What 'bout you? You staying with Fi for long?" She blurted out as she bent over to take another tear out of the rabbit. Things were going well and she couldn't believe her own good fortune. Hopefully things would stay this way and she wouldn't have trouble with others in her task or neighbors, though that was a little much to ask for.

"Aaah." Aw, that sucked. Oh well. She would use her time with Ossie wisely before the Scout had a different assignment. Having a friend even for a few nights was worth it though. She would have someone to talk to, hunt with, and even hang out with, not to mention the Mist was quite close to her age. Perhaps they could keep up the contact even after Ossie left.

"Oh, you want to live out here? The hunting's pretty good out here, even if you don't get something huge like this." Fireflight paused long enough to take another mouthful and then shrugged her shoulders at Ossie's next question. "I dunno really. Long enough to help out with chicks if they have any and nest building and stuff like that. Mom wants me to help her in any way I can. Have you met her mate?"

"Yup! I like it! It's far different than Deep Woods, excellent, I think." She swallowed another beak full after speaking and sighed with content. She was happy to have found a friend her own age, especially out here, or maybe she would take one a little further away, seeing as the neighbors were already so up tight about Fi taking a Wildtype as a mate.

"Nu-uh, not yet, bu I 'eard it's been causing her problems. Wildtype, right? Is he nice?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 28, 2008 8:42 pm

Fira nodded sagely. "It's nice to be out here rather than the Deep Woods. More spacious." Not to mention you didn't have to fight as hard for territories out here. She was planning on picking a territory out here as well, close enough to still come visit her sister but far enough away that they weren't in direct competition. She wanted some of her own customers, after all.

Again, Fireflight shrugged her wings. "I only met him briefly. He seems nice, but a Wildtype nearby keeps badmouthing him. I don't know what her problem was though." She clicked her beak at the memory.

Her eartufts flicked slightly in response to Fireflight's clacking beak. The sound meant unhappiness or discontent and slightly riled up the other female. "Really, huh? What about? I mean, I haven't heard anything bad and Fi seems to like him well enough. Well enough to be mated to him, rather than another Mist... So he can't be all that bad, huh?"

She shifted slightly and was finished eating her half. Fortunately, it was plenty. She felt nice and full, a rather content feeling with the exception of a little annoyance at the thought of another sentinel giving Fi a hard time.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 28, 2008 8:55 pm

"I don't know. She came storming in here like I'd eaten her companion and started talking about Basil. Stuff about how bad he was and cowardly and that Fi was stupid for believing in him. I told her that she didn't have the right to be messing with other Sentinel's relationships but she didn't listen." Fireflight tore off several meat strips vindictively at the memory.

Once her side of the rabbit was finished, the young Hunter preened her feathers and settled down again. "If you see a Wildtype around here, be careful okay? That one I met was downright nasty."

”Tch, she has no right t’do somethin’ like that!” Ossie grumbled with annoyance. The fact that any sentinel would be so rude as to behave in such a manner and stick their beaks where it didn’t belong was enough to ruffle the young Scout’s feathers.

“Sure… I’ll be sure to watch out. If I see anything unusual I’ll pop back by… Just in case you guys need to know.” She went about preening her feathers carefully as she mulled over the situation. There wasn’t much she could really do about it, but she was willing to help her new friends if the need came about, not that she would be around all that much longer. It still boiled her to the core that all of these other sentinels would treat someone as nice as Fiercefire so poorly.

"Thanks. I'll be keeping my eyes out too." The young Sentinel hoped that this mysterious Wildtype hadn't found her sister. Fiercefire was not the Mist to mess with, especially these days when Sentinels seemed intent on messing with her relationship. Fireflight had faith that her sister could handle herself even against another Sentinel, however it would have been nicer if confrontation was avoided. Fi needed to be in tip-top shape for her task, and getting injured would seriously hurt her business.

Fireflight gave the rabbit carcass one final nibble with her beak before she shuffled her wings. "I should go back and check on the nest. Maybe Basil is home. I'll see you around then?"

Ossie seemed to brighten up a bit as the conversation shifted and her happiness was expressed in her roused feathers and her perky appearance. "Right, it's been fun! I'll definitely come to visit this way again. I should probably be getting back to work, anywhoo." She placed her feathers and stretched her wings out in preparation for the flight ahead of her.

"Give my best r'gards to Fi' and Basil, would you?"
