Nodding, the dark alpha listened quietly. "Though, be it that may, a larger pack may also bring about ties and bonds that surpass the chaos. A unit, all working as one when things are good." He smiled faintly, as it was his dream to have a larger pack... Though, not many lived in the West. His dream, though slow at the start, had started to work and build it's own path.

"I would like to see a leader who could guide a pack with such perfection. It would be truly a beautiful thing to see." Kishan smiled, relaxing fully, which may have been a mistake. But he was easy to talk to. "I'm sure that your pack will grow. Even if it's slow, it will grow."

"Thank you, Kishan." Gethin smiled lightly in return, bowing his head to drink from the small pool. As he raised his head, a slow, sly smile made it's way onto his features. "If you wish to see such a feat, why not come back with me?" It was a long shot... But he had to take some risk, right?

Kishan choked on his own breath of air. "Pardon?" He wasn't sure if he heard the male right. As he coughed a little to try and regain his proper breathing, he inhaled a bug. "Ulp!" After a moment more of his undignified sputtering, he looked back to the male. "Did I hear you right? Your pack?"

Chuckling lightly, Gethin turned to look at the younger male. "You would be correct, you did hear me right." Shaking his head lightly, the dark alpha inhaled deeply. "It would give you a chance to see such a feat. Plus, you are not dim-witted like some others I have met. We could use such intelligence with us." He paused, stretching his front paws out lightly. "Though, should such an offer interest you, you would not be objected to a little... trial of sorts, would you?"

Kishan paused, and thought this over. "My intelligence is my greatest strength. I'm not fast, and I'm not strong. But if you believe that I would be an asset to your pack, then I will gladly take on any challenge you set before me." He rose to his feet and looked the alpha in the eye. "I accept your invitation- and the trial that comes with it."

Gethin smiled in return, glad he had accepted his invitation. Slowly he rose, stretching lightly. "That is good to hear." Pausing softly, he contemplated. His trial should be one that tries him of his intelligence... But, what could it be... A riddle, perhaps? But, what... Slowly, the older male smiled. "As your trial, you will have to answer a riddle. A simple test of knowledge. Are these terms understandable?"

"Well of course!" Kishan would pride himself on his problem solving, and riddling skills. Not that he would admit it to this male. "Your terms are most fair. I'm ready any time." He was excited, but tried to hide it.

Nodding, Gethin's tail swept across the dusty ground. It rustled a small patch of grass, as a small smile came across his features.
"My tale is a ruse;
It keeps you at bay.
I hide from the Sun
Sheltered from day.
Legends are written of me,
Why, is beyond even my length.
Horn'ed beasts are we.
Beware of our strength."
He inhaled softly, glancing at Kishan. Would he be able to solve it? He hoped so... While he wanted more packmembers, he did not want to allow just anyone into his pack.

Kishan blinked, staring at the male a moment. "How long do I have to solve it? And do I need to find whatever this object is? Or is the answer simple enough?" His mind was already trying to break apart all the pieces.

horned a cactus? no, not that

hide from the sun a shadow

his brow furrowed while e thought, without intention.

"You have until... the dawn breaks. For that is when I should return to my pack. Alone, or with company, is up to you, however." Gethin looked back at the water, mildly wondering how deep the pool ran. "An answer will suffice. Though, if you are able to bring the object of my riddle, then that is all the more kudos for you. If, however, the object of my sought answer is able to be brought." He yawned lightly, resuming to sit back on his haunches to wait.

Kishan bowed his head. "Thank you. I will return before first light. You have my word." He looked up at the alpha again then bowed his head once more before turning and walking off. He had much thinking to do. This was a riddle he hadn't heard before. Time to take it one step at a time. As he walked, he talked it out.

"Hide from the sun. That could be a shadow. But a shadow doesn't have a tail. Unless it's the shadow of a snake. Then the tail isn't real, so it's a ruse. But what strength does a shadow have?" He stopped and looked down. A scorpion was poised in front of him, ready to attack. Kishan baited it into striking at him before he grabbed it by the tail. In no time he had made short work of the bug. A snack was good for helping one think. When he was finished, he continued.

"Cactus have thorns. Is that what is meant by the horns? They do indeed have shadows, but no tails. They have arms. And no one writes legends about a cactus. Or a shadow for that matter." He found a small snake hole and began to dig cautiously. "And neither a cactus nor shadow have much strength in the physical sense. Could it be a snake?" he unburied a cache of eggs, but they were all hatched. "Their venom is powerful. And they hide from the sun. No, they hide from the Day. Early mornings and late evenings they warm themselves." He looked up. The stars had indeed moved. He squinted at them, and noticed that Lacerta was visible.

"Lacerta... The stars hide from day. And people are always writing about the stars. They have great cosmic powers as well. Some of them people believe to be pictures of beasts, like Draco. Do dragons have horns? Lizards have them. A dragon is a Liz... lizard." He focused more on Lacerta.

"You're the lizard. And Lizards are not always out in the day. It's too hot. They stay in the shadows. And a dragon is a lizard! The legends! And they will drop their tails to escape capture! It IS a lizard!" He turned quickly. Kishan hadn't realized how far he had walked, nor how late in the evening it was now. It would be dawn soon, and he took off running. He wouldn't let down the elder male. He could do this!

Several minutes passed as he ran. He could see the small oasis in the distance. Having never run this hard before, Kishan's limbs were starting to feel weak under him. No. No no no no no! not now. Don't fail now!

"LIZARD!" He called out, not yet close enough to truly be heard. He urged his legs to move faster, speeding up. He was close. Close!

And tripped. He kicked up sand and plants when he tumbled, landing still several feet away from the male. What he had tripped on went flying towards the Alpha. A small lizard returning to it's nest after hunting, and it landed at Gethin's feet. "It's a lizard..." He said, looking over at the male as he pulled himself up.

In the lapse of time, Gethin had laid down by the water's edge. His gaze out on the water's edge, watching the sky begin to lighten through it's reflection. His mild hunger had kept him awake and from drifting off, and this time he was mildly thankful of the gnawing hunger.

His ears flickered at a distant sound, rousing the dark helix to his feet. Gethin watched the form of Kishan sprint across the sand, and withheld a wince as he tripped over the sand. His amber eyes glanced down at his feet, watching the small lizard struggle to it's feet and move to scamper back into the brush. He couldn't help but chuckle softly.

"A lizard is correct, and to find one by serendipity is rather amazing, I must say." Gethin glanced over his shoulder, just as dawn's first sunrays shot over the horizon. He glanced back, looking solemn but humbled. "You certainly cut it close. But you did make it before the allotted time was up." A small smile crept over his face. "You pass."

Kishan smiled faintly. "Anticipation... It." he was breathing heavily from his hard run. "It makes the... pay off sweeter." He waited for a moment before standing tall, looking at the larger alpha. His tail was moving just a little. The slight motion and the look in his eyes the only indication of how he felt to be commended on his work, and to be accepted. He grinned, a playful, coy smile. "So, any girls in your pack?"

"That it does." Gethin chuckled softly, amused. "Two; and both are quite out of the ordinary. An adolescent by the name of Kega, and an omega named Melpomene." He stretched out lightly, glancing at the younger male. "Both are rather good talkers. Though, you will have to gather your own opinions about them, I guess. Speaking of which..." He glanced behind him, wincing as the sun shone into his amber eyes. "We should be on our way. So you may meet the rest of the pack, and settle in."
