Myrkur whined and padded under his new friend's fur, panting and wagging his tail. He sat down when the big helix wanted his name. He had been only left with that two syllable name. "Myrkur." he said. It rhymed with Lurker, only with an M. Almost like Mercury. He panted and leaned against him again, whining as he looked to the burnt tree once more.

"Don't you have somewhere else to be?" Dahlmir snapped, getting tired of feeling the cold little pup. "Beat it. Myrkur." he growled, turning so that the bird was between them. He didn't know much about Myrkur and so far, he had yet to feel any fondness for him, so he could care less whether the pup lived or died. He finally finished the bird and he licked his lips, yawning. He stretched, glancing at the pup again before darting off.

Myrkur shook his head slowly as the adult bolted. He was about to chase after, but gave up after only steps and plopped down, whining and howling meekly. He was out in the rain again and shivered violently.

After a few moments had passed, Dahlmir looked back to see the pup was no longer behind him. He smiled but in his mind, he was calling himself a coward. Why would he have to run from a pup? All he had to do was teach the little runt a lesson and it would go bug someone else, right? Well... no matter, it was far behind him now... litterally. He paced around another dry spot he found, shiver lightly from the cold. Laying down, he tucked his nose under his tail and attempted to sleep except the insults and guilt were still running around inside of him. After about an hour of restlessness, he finally got up. "I'll just check on that little whelp." he mumbled to himself. If it was gone, then he could at least say he did something. He sprinted back towards where he last saw the pup, telling himself it was just to get it over with quickly so he could sleep although really, he was worried about the little thing.

The pup was curled up where he had sat down, shaking and whining into his fur. He was now drenched, shivering, little teeth chattering. He did not even raise his head when the oter helix approached, but curled up tighter. His fur was dolloped in mud and he had crusty pus in his closed eyes. He missed his mommy and daddy...there was the tree and his old cave for shelter, but he no longer had the strength to stand up. If he didn't get warm, dry, fed and watered soon, he'd die.

"Hey, hey pup, you okay?" Dahlmir asked upon reaching his destination. The answer was quite obvious and he nudged the pup slightly, glad to feel a small and feeble breath. At least the thing was alive, he thought. He grabbed the nape of his neck, trying to be gentle although this was his first time. The pup was light but that wasn't surprising. He looked around, trying not to move his head too much, and padded towards another section of the forest, keeping his head low to keep most of the drops away from the bundle he held. The previous forest space was getting cold and wet because of its small size and the area he had run to was too far. When he found a small den, one that looked like it belonged to something the size of a grown rabbit, Dahlmir stopped. He couldn't fit into it but it would be warm, right? He tucked the pup into the entrance of the den and laid down close so that his body heat would help warm the pup.

Myr whined as the adult picked him up...he was so tired...he remembered his mom carrying him like this...was she here now? Maybe she was carrying his soul and he was dead. But why was his mom so warm?
He was plopped into the hole and he nestled into it, ready to sleep once more in the dry and warm spot....but a squeak met his ears and something began to pummel him from inside the den. Somebody already lived here- an angry jack rabbit with kittens. Her mate was now biting and hissing and kicking at the tired pup that was invading his home.
In the rabbit's language, he was shouting. "NO NO! NO HELIXES HERE! COME ON! OUTCHA GO! OUT OUT OUT OUT!" But Myr only heard the squeaks and felt the sharp claws. He yelped for Dahlmir.

Dahlmir sighed, blinking. He prepared to go to sleep himself when suddenly the pup yelp. "Huh?" he said, scrambling onto his paws. He wondered what was wrong with him. Maybe he came too late? "What's the matter?" he said, starting to get a bit angry. He spent time getting the pup safe and he wasn't just going to waste it. He grabbed the pup's scuff and attempted to drag him out but was surprised when something clawed at his nose. He dropped Myrkur in surprise and Dahlmir, his nose dry, scented the rabbit that was attacking the pup. He managed to get Myrkur out and next... was his revenge. He yanked the rabbit out of its den and killed it, barking madly at the remaining family. They were lucky he couldn't fit in the stupid thing.

The female rabbit just seemed to sit with her kittens, looking out at her dead husband who'd only ben defending his family and had been needlessly killed.
Myr began to lick his wound. He stared at the rabbit as he did so and something flashed through his head.
Fire...there was smoke everywhere. Lights burning. He couldn't see. His mom was asleep, or dead maybe. He just saw her lying with her eyes shut. His brothers and sister were whining, choking..He couldn't breathe..."MOM!" He screamed. "DAD!" He sucked in a whole mouth of smoke. He felt his father's maw around his middle, picking him up like a piece of prey and carrying him with swift speed out of the cave, to a tree in a clearing. Myrkur could breathe and see everything now. The fire in the den, the tree burning up beside it. He was dumped under a bush. "Myrkur, stay here until I come back for you!" he heard his dad call as he raced back towards the cave, into the flames to try and save his other pups and his mate...but he never came back. He had died protecting his family, as this rabbit had.
He dropped his ears and nuzzled against Dahlmir's leg.

Dahlmir ceased his barking when he noticed Myrkur rubbing against his leg. Did his barking frighten the pup? He looked sad. Dahlmir grunted and prodded one of the pup's drooping ears. "What's wrong?" he asked although there was no concern in his voice. Without waiting for a reply, he settled down again, tucking his legs under him. The other rabbits should know better than to come out. He gripped the ear of the dead father, dragging it close. He preferred woodland creatures to birds and an extra meal never hurt. He glanced at the pup again. "Want some?" he asked. No need to have a dead pup on his conscience.

He whined and pushed his face against the adult's fur, crying into it like a sputtering newborn trying to find its mother. He missed his mom and dad....he turned and used his tail to draw two dead helixes in the dirt. He whined and snuffled it, as if hoping to smell his mom's fur again.
When he was offered the rabbit, he shook his head weakly, still shaking from the cold. at least the rain had stopped.

Dahlmir grimaced but allowed the pup to stay there. He would have to take a bath later on. Remove pup spit and everything from his fur. He swallowed a bite, then stopped eating to watch the pup draw what looked to be... well, he wasn't sure, actually. He blinked and went back to his meal, wondering if it was a weird pup habit or something. "You sure?" he asked, although he was already finishing up the rabbit. Myrdur was still trembling, even though the rain and diminished to small trickles. "Where's your uh... underpelt?" he asked, making it obvious that he had no knowledge what so ever on pups.

He kept whining. He was half trembling from the cold and half trembling from sorrow. He nodded, even though his stomach growled. He looked up at the question and bristled his fur, showing that he was too little to have grown a full one yet. His baby soft skin was still peeking from his black and white and red fur.

"...Right." he said, starting to get uncomfortable. I mean, all he had to do was feed the thing and he would live, right? But he didn't want to eat. Maybe this pup was defective. Yes, that was it. "Anything you want?" he asked, since Myrdur seemed to be poofing up. He did something similar when he was angry or wanted to appear tough. Was this pup doing the same? "Hey." he said, rolling him onto his back. "Stop that." He didn't want to teach the pup to go around bristling itself at everything. Speaking of which... why did he have to be the one stuck with it. It didn't take a genius to find out his experience with pups was nonexistant. Heck, he didn't even know what they ate anymore, because apparently, rabbits weren't good enough. He sighed, eyeing the small pup between his paws. "How did I end up with you?" he mumbled.

Myrkur whined again when he was rolled onto his back. He hated that this big helix didn't understand him, but when he tried to speak, he couldn't form words. Smoke damage or trauma kept him from speaking.
He nodded when he was asked the question and got to his shakey feet. He padded towards the bigger wolf's underside and sniffed his chest. He couldn't find what he was looking for and whined, still sniffing all over his belly.
