Comhnall jumped and shivered with surprise when Kane suddenly appeared, whispering in his ear. His ears flickered and Comhnall felt the hope in him growing at the words. Yes, things could change, couldn't they? He knew his life and been changed, and unexpectedly, too, as Kane said, when he met Nani. His cheeks flushed again at the thought of Nani and his tail wagged nervously, as if he weren't allowed such happy thoughts.
Another shiver rippled across his spine when he suddenly felt Kane's breath tickling his ear, and he remembered where he was. His ears flatteneed with discomfort and he scooted away some, trying to show that the close proximity bothered him with his posture.

Kane got the message but he was still encouraged by the shivers. He sighed to himself, this was taking forever. The signals were mixed. Maybe he should steer Comhnall's thoughts away from Nani. He'd find Nani and Shadow later.
"So....those markings? Did you get them from your mother's side or your father's side? Their cool." Kane complimented holding up his red and white paw. "Most of my markings came from my father's side. My mother was almost pure red. I definitely take after my dad." Kane wondered what he would look like today if he had turned out pink. Would he be the same Kane he is now? Or would he be more like Comhnall?
He didn't mention the fact that he didn't remember his parents well, the story of his abandonment wasn't appropriate right now.

Comhnall spun around in what he decided would be his new sitting spot, scratching at the earth and sniffing at the few blades of grass close by before deciding it was safe to sit. He licked his nose and kept his head bowed, eyes straying to the large rock Kane had stood on. He thought it was fitting. Kane seemed to be a helix of high rank, after all. He was stirred out of his thoughts when Kane spoke again, and Comhnall flicked an ear in Kane's direction, reluctantly replying.
"Both." he said. "My father was red and my mother was white. I'm the result." he shrugged, as though careless, although his shoulders started to tremble with held-back tears. All his life, his father had done nothing but insult his shameful pink coat, so how could he think it was anything but horrible? A musing thought formed, how his father had been red and his mother white, and Kane's father white and his mother red, but it only led to jealousy and even more depressing thoughts.

Kane wondered what it'd be like if they traded fur coats but not personalities. Oh, if ONLY he were that HOT! He'd be strutting his stuff all over the territories and more male helixes would turn gay just to be with him. The red eyes on Comhnall would frighten some away if he didn't immediately cower. Kane's gay side would shine in that pink pelt and his fierce personality would ensure no one dominated him.
He felt they were made for each other. Comhnall's nervous disposition would keep Kane's temper in check so as not to frighten him. His submissive side let Kane's dominating side relax for a change so he could be himself. Kane's protective attitude would scare away Comhnall's tormentors, and if they didn't leave him alone Kane would fight them away. Kane would be kept from acting irrationally and Comhnall would someday regain a level of confidence once he trusted Kane's protection.
The noticeable tremble took the smile off his face, concern shining in his crimson stare. Did he smell salt? What was wrong? Didn't Comhnall see his own good looks? No, of course not. He was an omega, others had been hurting him. How could he have a good self esteem when others kept beating him down? Were his parents hard on him because of those colors?
His tail waved around slowly before 'accidentally' touching Comhnall's tail as it laid on the ground. He made no other move toward the helix, let Comhnall have his space....except for the tail. "Now that the lynxes are out of the way, let's try to enjoy our day." Kane announced with an encouraging smile.

Comhnall jumped when he felt a tail brush his and he looked around widly, wondering what had happened. When he realized it was only Kane's tail, which he assumed had accidentally brushed against him, he blushed. For the moment, his depressing thoughts seemed to retreat and he wondered if it would be considered rude if he moved his tail away so suddenly. He often avoided physical contact, except for his occasional nuzzles to Nani, so the small touch between their tails made his sensitivity soar.
"Er. Uh...." he managed to say, his tail starting to twitch. "Okay." he replied after a while, when his scrabling brain managed to piece the words together. He backed away quickly and tried to make it seem as if he did that only to rise to his paws. Before he could, however, he paused, and watched Kane, waiting for him to stand first.
