"Callay! Indeed, the game begins my Beamishly manxome companion." With nary a further warning, the striped stallion burst off away from the shadowy mare, scouring the terrain and trees for a fragment of his 'sanity'.

No sooner had Tulgey's hooves set into motion, Pooka sprung to life, slipping off in a perpindicular direction to the rather feline horse. Expertly, she ducked and weaved through the thick woods, shining eyes scanning the woods for a hint of his lost sanity - whaver shape it might take.
She angled her search in the general direction of the mountains, remembering his tale, as she pawed at piles of leaves and peered into the hollows of fallen trees. A fire-red beetle, a polished stone, a brambley-vine. All of these things she paused at to consider, only to move on with a shake of her head and a mad grin.

The striped stallion chuckled slightly as the mare wandered further north, knowing they were already pretty far up in the mountains, the land rough and wild. Shaking his head he walked expertly across the roots and around the thorny tangles of nearly unidentifiable vines draped around on trees trying to eek their way in the dense wood , he headed for a younger patch of the forest, almost a clearing full of fallen trees near the ravine.
As he neared the scrub brush filled plot of land, he snuffled around the bottom, years of the practice shown by deep gouges from digging hooves carved in the landscape. This was where he lost everything, so much of it covered by earth and downed rotting wood, or dumped into the river below and swept away in the storm over cascades and down the waterfall. But he knew something had to be still here, where he could find it better then being swept out downstream and possibly all the way out to sea.

Pooka shifted through more piles of dead leaves and thick grasses before her eyes strayed over to her competitor's "work" - he was moving down the mountian passes, further out into the forests - presumably the path he had taken as he had fled from his pursuer. Her tail whisked back and forth as she pondered, unabashedly observing the sorts of places he looked in what regions. After all, it was he who had lost the sanity, he would have a better idea of where. And there were no rules against it, she grinned to herself.
She skirted the edge of the river, now turning over pebbles, and wandering over to a long-ago fallen log that had wedged itself in a shallower part of the river. Bits of moss and grass clung to the log, an anchor in the current. She circled, pondering as her eyes raked over the debris at the edge of the river at a bend, wondering how strong the current was.

As a brilliant sky blue button winked from the pebbly cover at the shadowy mare, its twin was discovered by the striped stallion, still attatched to a stained and rotted bit of white plush cloth, like the kind found on a stuffed animal with the faux fur, hints of other colors lost in the mud.
But the glass button caught Tulgey's eye, bringing back a spark of memory -- his father had a toy cat created for him in his own image for his children, as a way to protect them, and those bright, sky blue button eyes twinkled merrily in his memories.
He scooped it up and looked around -- perhaps he had won this game.

With a triumphant twinkle in her eye, Pooka snatched up the brilliant piece of blue. That didn't go in the forests. Not by itself. it twinkled and glittered and as she dipped her head down to look closer, her own red eyes shined back at her.
It stared back at her! She grinned a toothy, snaggly grin.
Carefully picking it up between her lips, she tossed her tail high.
"Twulweee~!" She called, lips firmly closed around the button.

Ears pricking, he headed the direction of the mangled cry of his name, trotting perkily as the stained fabric dangled from his teeth, the buttons twin glinting in the sunlight, "'Ey, Pooka, ah fink ah found eet.."
He then blinked as he caught sighed of her, both of them carrying sky blue buttons. He then began to laugh a little, "Eht sems we 'ave ah caucus race an boaf won."

Pooka spied the familiar blue sparkle danglin from the cloth in Tulgey's mouth.
"Hnhf." Pooka snorted, still holdin tight to it. Her prize was not so unique, it seemed. And yet, since Tulgey had also chosen this trinket - which meant that her find was genuine.
Pooka whisked her tail silently behind her as she shook her head with a titter.
Shifting the blue bead to a tighter vicehold between her two teeth, she smiled 'sweetly' at Tulgey. "Yesh. wee do. Now whateva sharr 'appen? Who iz da winner?"
She eyed Tulgey's beads. "Mebbe ye don' need mah piece. I wonderr wha' woul' 'appen if I just... ate it!"
