It... wasn't that Okassis didn't like Nan. Quite the opposite - she was fun, knew interesting stuff, and was indispensable to his schemes. But why did she have to show up now? It was probably his own fault for not having this talk with S'van sooner, but damn it....

Okassis inhaled, then exhaled. As his lungs emptied, his tenseness rushed away; seconds later, he was only just shy of his usual self, cocky and grinning and energetic.

"Aren't you in the wrong quarters, Nose?" he joked, waving her to join them. It was a bit crowded in the alcove with the three of them, plus the dragonet, but that didn't mean much to Okassis. Bumping his satchel under the bunk, he looked curiously to what she held. "A present, huh? What's the occasion?"

S’van and Okassis having deep, meaningful conversations in their old alcove? Honestly, it was like they weren’t even trying to hide it from her. For all of S’van’s frequent denials, he certainly seemed to end up in very suspicious circumstances. Then again, if she talked about finding them here she would also have to explain why she was creeping around in the male Candidate dorms without a good reason. It really was a pity her half-brother wasn’t a Candidate anymore. That used to be such a good excuse for being here.

But she was here now, and here she was going to stay, especially after such a thoughtful invitation from S’van and Gall. That dragon really was the best thing ever. Answering Okassis’s grin with a cheeky one of her own, she replied, “Funny story about that, really. Apparently there are some girls out there who don’t want to hear about Marko’s attempts to gather a male harem for himself, despite what he told me on the Hatching Sands, and feel the need to um… forcefully barricade the entrance to certain alcoves. I think they’re just jealous that they can’t be part of his harem.”

Nan continued to talk as she made her way over to the empty bunk, sitting down on it with the grace of a drunk bluerider. “And no occasion for the present. I just thought it would be of use to you.” She unrolled the piece of hide and held it out to Okassis with an inaudible “tada!” “Though I’m not sure how much you’ll need it….” The Infamous Nose trailed off as her gaze returned to S’van. “Seeing as he’s here, in the flesh…”

A somewhat stormy expression came over S'van's features as he realized just where Nan was intending to plop herself down and settle in. "Naaan! That's my bunk," he complained, completely outraged that she had decided that his cot was up for grabs. He was, in point of fact, so very wound up that he did not attempt to try to see what Nan had given Okassis. Honestly, where were her manners? Just settling down wherever she sharding well pleased? No, he was not having any of that! "Either you share the bunk with me, or it's the floor for you," he threatened, trying and failing to sound firm. It was hard to seem stern when one's dragonet was falling all over himself to skitter to one's target's side for pettings. S'van, why are you upset? the brown inquired, somewhat confused by his rider's behavior.

Okassis was all ready to make a crack about S'van getting Nan into bed with him, too - but then his gaze struck the paper. His smile vanished, and his face went slack and blank, like a child who didn't know what they were seeing. It seemed to take him a few seconds; his eyes went up, alarmed, to Nan, then astounded, to S'van. Then a huge grin split over his face, and he looked back to Nan.

"S, shards, Nan - you sure you should be giving that to me?" he choked mirthfully. "All that loving detail, I don't know if I'm worthy!"

A lot of people asked themselves where Nan's manners were. We're not quite sure where they went, but they seemed to make cameo appearances every now and then whenever they are needed. Unfortunately for S'van, now was not one of those times. "What, so you mean I can stay here with you guys? Thanks S'van! You're a real pal!" She grinned cheekily as she crossed her legs on his cot. "And why does it have to be you or the floor? Gall and I can share this bed. You share with Okassis." Honestly, didn't S'van think about his dragon from time to time? Dragons had needs too!

She was distracted from her affronted brownrider friend by Okassis's expression, which had her in barely muffled fits of giggles. Nan had one upped the Trader! She had surprised the normally smooth-talking young man who had fit so well in the little potato peeling circle! And who would have thought all it would take was S'van's naked behind? She should have thought of this sooner. "Oh I think you're worthy, Okassis! More than worthy! How can you not appreciate the detail on this? It's even captured his beauty mark!" She held the picture up beside S'van. "S'van, turn around and lift your shirt so we can compare."

"... W-what?!" Was that... was that really what he thought it was? Staring at the portrait, it became increasingly clear that it truly was. "You brought this to show Okassis? Why?" Why would she show that to his best friend, who was ever so inclined to sell things if he took it into his head that they were worth a price. Desperately, S'van looked between his friends, hoping against hope that that thought had not yet occurred to Kas. "... Uh." Well, it was not as though lifting his shirt up was going to hurt him, was it? Turning, he did so, trying to peer over his shoulder so that he could see what they were doing. "I don't know, Kas takes up a lot of space..." He was rather bulky, wasn't he? Bulkier than S'van, anyway.

Okassis could barely control his laughter now. As if the gift weren't bad enough, now S'van was really giving them a chance to compare to the real thing? "Shards, Nose, I still don't know!" Okassis gasped, struggling to make words through his wheezing laughter. "Such a, a fine piece of art, it... it deserves an audience! Bigger than this little alcove can contain!" Unable to imagine S'vans's reaction if the piece were shown around, Okassis broke out into helpless guffaws.

A sleepy shout for them to shut up gave Okassis the reason he needed to stifle his mirth, but not stop it. The poor Trader doubled over, hiding his face in his knees, shoulders shaking with unstoppable laughter.

“That’s for me to know and you to find out,” Nan replied easily, using a phrase that was very familiar to her. In truth, she hadn’t even considered the fact that Okassis might sell the picture. If he hadn’t been here she would have just hung it over S’van’s bunk and left it at that. However seeing as the real thing seemed intent on occupying the bunk – which Nan had claimed in the name of the Nose – Okassis probably didn’t need a naked picture. Alas. “Well, you’re not going to fit on here with Gall and me, so I guess it’s there or the floor.”

As she compared the drawing to the real deal, she couldn’t help but giggle at Okassis’s words. She hadn’t meant for the drawing to be funny, but the laughter was catching. Nan was beyond pleased when Okassis suggested that it deserved a bigger audience. “Oh I couldn’t agree more! But I thought I should show it to you first so you could make the call. I was just going to put them on a few of the dining hall tables but somehow that didn’t seem enough.”

Leaving Okassis to his laughter, Nandeli turned her attention to Galliath, holding up the picture to show the dragon. “What do you think Galliath? Isn’t it a nice picture of him?”

Grumpily, S'van picked Nan up and deposited her on Okassis' bed. "Here. You sleep with Kas. Out of my cot." Then, before she had the opportunity to return to it, he spread out on his bunk, and encouraged Galliath to come sleep on it. But I am not sleepy, mine, the dragonet complained, settling in despite the slightly petulant words. Crooning, the brown hatchling peered at the image. You are brown too! he said, the petulance giving way to excitement. "... Yes, Gall, I am brown as well." Silly, silly dragonet. I am not at all silly! Again, that protest. S'van did not deign to answer. "Kas if you try to find somewhere else for that..." the weyrling left the sentence hanging, not bothering to supply an appropriate threat.

Okassis looked at Nan. It wasn't that he disliked the kitchen girl, of course - on the contrary, she was probably one of the most entertaining people he'd met at the Weyr!... but somehow, sharing a bed with her didn't seem.... safe. He'd heard more enough rumors circulated around the Weyr by her to know what misfortune might befall him for even the slightest misunderstanding.

There was something very wrong with the fact that he, being the only one that actually belonged in this alcove, was going to be the one stuck sleeping on the ground. But without complaint, he stole the pillow off of the cot and dropped it onto the ground, sitting on it while he rummaged under the bed for the extra blanket.

"If? You think too highly of my self-control, to only say 'if'!" Okassis snickered. "When, S'van. What'll you do when?"

"Aaaaaaw, S'van you're mean," Nan protested verbally as she was physically removed from his cot. "How come you can't just share with Okassis? Does he snore or something?" Alas, it appeared that she would have to be stealing the Trader's bunk tonight, seeing as he probably wouldn't be so willing to volunteer to share with her. She was near positive he wouldn't do anything, buuuut nah. Better him on the floor. If she took up permanent residence here she'd steal S'van's cot later.

Thus, with a somewhat apologetic look on her face she tossed Okassis one of the blankets off the bed. They were really lucky that they lived in Ista and the nights didn't get too cold. Nobody further north would have been able to afford sleeping on the floor. She was forced to return her attention to Galliath when S'van repeated what the dragon had said. "He is brown isn't he? You guys match! If you're not careful you'll have girls flocking into the Weyrling Barracks looking for him!" And his nicely bronzed tush.

"I can't share with Okassis because I take up too much space, dimglow." S'van was not in a mood to be nice. "You're smaller, you fit better." Grumpily, he nestled down in the furs, aggrieved that Nan had decided to steal his place, and then said that he was mean when he moved her. He sighed. "I'm going to burn that fardling painting..." Sharding Traders. Sharding gossip girls. "... What?" Now his tone was worried, a little unbelieving. "They wouldn't really flock, would they?" Anxiously, he patted his dragonet's neck, not at all liking the idea of being flocked over, though it didn't seem to bother Galliath at all.

"You doubt the word of Nose, S'van?" Okassis asked, amused, as he set himself up a nice little bed. It wasn't exactly comfortable - the stone floor radiated enough cold that it was really more worth it for him to lay his blankets on the floor as a makeshift mattress than to lie on it, and even with the padding, he could feel the hardness of it beneath him. But, he reasoned philosophically, at least he, as a Trader, was used to uncomfortable beds. Of their group, he was probably the best suited for the ground. And besides, it would only be for one night!

'They'll flock all right." Getting situated, the youth grinned. "A whole mess of them will come en masse during the night, staring in through your window, making sure that you're asleep before they sneak in, slowly, so quietly that not even Gall will hear. And then...."

Nandeli made a face at S’van. “You’re not even the slightest bit creative when it comes to sleeping positions, are you?” Of course she was smaller and would therefore fit better, but she was not S’van and therefore she was not going to be sharing a bed with Okassis. It always already bad enough that she was here and not back in her own room. Had it been anyone else, the gossip would have been around the Weyr by the next morning. But gossiping about yourself was no fun, she would have to keep this little sleeping arrangement to herself. How very sad indeed.

Her grin turned impish when Okassis backed her up on the notion of the flocking girls. She could think of several kitchen girls off the top of her head who were quite enamored with the newest brownrider, not to mention several more girls who had cheered heartily upon the sight of his naked body (she had too, but she was different). When Okassis trailed off she took her opportunity and threw her pillow at S’van. “They’ll attack! You won’t even be able to call to Gall for help! And then there will be fingers everywhere,” she wiggled her fingers at him, “And then all sorts of things will happen. So you can’t say we didn’t warn you when it happens. I’d put on a nice pair of pants, if I were you.”

... That was a truly, truly terrifying thought. S'van actually whimpered. "W-would... would they really?" he asked, a plaintive tone to his voice that suggested that he was desperately hoping that Nan was joking-- that Okassis was joking as well! "Th-they w-wouldn't really, would they?" Eeeep! Fingers everywhere? Eyes wide with horror, the young rider covered his head with a pillow. "Women are terrible." He was whining. He was very definitely whining. Oh Faranth, the fingers! The prodding fingers, and...! It was terrible, simply terrible! "Nan, if I let you share my cot... will you keep them away?" He could but hope. The word of Nose indeed.

"... Wait. Wh-what do you mean about sleeping p-positions?"
