Atop an apartment building, sitting in a fold-out lawn chair and binoculars pressed to his eyes, Konrad was examining the people below. He saw many, but recognized few. Those were the ones he needed to know and cared little about the rest. Not like he cared much for himself. Recently he'd had conflicting thoughts on his ways of life and was quickly realizing that he was sending many a man to his death via orders given to him by a man much higher in stature, yet just as bad morally. He'd never cared before, but now... He wasn't sure.

All those thoughts were left behind, though, when he saw a disturbance in the crowd. The famed Kali Chen getting a little trouble from a local ruffian. She seemed to gain distance on her persuer and grabbed some man by random. Words were exchanged and the moron took off. How pathetic. Konrad sighed and lowered the binoculars. "Perhaps I should look into changing my.... directives."

Ray snorted at her remark. "I wish I had screwed all night..." He laughed. "Anyways, guess I was... uh... of help and stuff." He said, having watched the man run off. "Glad I could." 'I guess.' He added mentally.

He yawned again. "Anywho.... nice bluff about being Lord Chen's daughter. I mean, if I were him, I wouldn't let my daughter out of my sight. I mean, too many people would be after her, bein' so important and all. And if she did get away, I'd have like..." He thought. "A whole frickin' army of bodyguards around her... or somethin'."

He shrugged. "But that's not my business. Name's Raynor Corrado to the local police, but you can call me Ray." He wasn't really sure why he was telling her his name.

He looked down at his hands. They were shaking. "s**t." He mumbled, digging into his pocket for a lighter and his pack of Marlboros. He dug a cigarette out of the pack, finding only a few left within, and lit it, taking a long drag on it, finding the shake of his hands leave almost immediately. He exhaled the smoke away from the woman he was talking to.

"But yeah. I figure I've got nobody to look good to, so why not look messy and stuff? 'Sides, it fits the whole street urchin stereotype." He shrugged.

Kali dug her liscense out of her back pocket and showed it to him, covering all but her picture and her name. "Name's Kali Chen, kid. That raggamuffin recognized me by description, I guess." She shrugged her shoulders uncaringly. "Unless he the cops, which I kow he ain't. I ain't got no time to bluff. And i'm in need of a bodyguard. I seem to scare the suckers off in seconds off meeting them." She smiled innocently and wave a hand in the air mockingly. "Wouldn't know why. I'm nothing but daddy's little princess."

Kali stuck her hands in her pockets and tried to brush off the feeling of being watched. She was used to people staring at her and so she could tell this wasn't casual looking. Someone deliberately watched her, much to her displeasure. "So what is it man? I'm a gang-baby, what are you?" She didn't speak this wa all the time. Kali much preferred speaking properly and being intelligent to this bluther. She didn't want to come off as a prissy goody two-shoes being as this guy knew her father's name.

Konrad kept his binoculars trained on his subjects and locked it in place atop the tripod. He walked away momentarily to get a can of Mountain Dew. Despite the hype of the country, the soda actually calmed his nerves most of the time. The rest of the time, it just tasted good. Now was one of those times where it was great to just drink. He popped it open and chugged the first half before setting it on the floor and returning to his binoculars. They were still there, obviously placing introductions. It became particularly obvious when Ms. Chan flashed her I.D. to the scruff she was talking to.

Ray blinked a few times at the identification Kali displayed. "Oh... well... uh..." He thought for a moment, and said the one word that came to mind.

"s**t."

He shrugged. "Well, nice to meetcha, then." He said. "Bodyguard? Well, I'm a gang member myself, but I'm mainly in it for the fight clubs. Yep, pretty good if I say so myself." He grinned.

'Daddy's little princess, eh? Yeah... I'll bet...' He snorted mentally.

He took another drag on his cigarette, exhaling the smoke again in an unobnoxious way. He didn't comment on his addiction, and hardly ever did. Thankfully, he was at an age where the detriments to his health had yet to come into play.

He wondered what Kali was up to, but part of him didn't care. Was it luck? Fate? ... Or just coincidence? Ah well, he didn't care. Maybe it was an opportunity. He figured a bodyguard would make big bucks...

Kali stepped back and cast a wary eye around. She saw nothing of particular interest so she simply shrugged it all off. She looked up at the guy and smiled.
"Know wut you're getting yourself into? You work for me, you're working for my sweet old man. Say, let's get off the street and chat a little kid."

Kali turned to her left and went straight to a little restaurant. It was small and non-important so she would know if her sixth sense was working or not -that is unless the person did not go in. Either way, she was hungry. She did not look back at the guy, but pushed the door open and found herself a booth close to the door to sit dow. It was one of thosecrappy little restaurants that did not seat you.

Time to play predator. As soon as they headed off the street and into the building, he was on his feet, collapsing the tripod and grabbing the empty soda can to toss in the recycle bin. If there was one thing he had a pet peeve for, it was recycling. Why was everyone in America so wasteful? He didn't have time to ponder that, though. He put the binoculars away in his apartment room then made his descent down the stairwell. When he hit the street, he headed for his marked restaurant. Fortunately for him, he was known in this restaurant as a regular, so he wouldn't seem suspicious.

Upon entering, he heard his false name ring out. "Hey, Victor!" It was Madeline, one of the full-time workers. She was working a few tables near his prey's, so he grabbed the one that was set apart from them by another table in between. He sat and took the newspaper on the table. "What can I getcha, Victor?"

"The usual, Maddy," he replied, opening the paper.

"Got it. Black coffee. Nothing extra. I'll get right on it." She strode away and into the back to fetch his drink while he read the paper. He'd opened to a rather interesting article concerning the recent crime rates and the like.

The young woman walked the street with her right hand balled into a fist. There was a white purse tucked neatly under her arm carrying a liscensed handgun. She wore a light blue miniskirt and a plain white halter top with a short blue jacket over it. Her curves were kissed softly by her clothes and they spoke the fact that she wasn't from that area of town. Her boots were blue and came to her mid-calf. her belt was a chain made of huge, gold colored, heart links. Slender gold hoops hung from her ears and a gold choker trapped her neck.
Thakorise had a cold, srict aura about her that never seemed to fade until she was alone. She stopped at the beginning of a street and looked around. She wanted somewhere to sit and rest her feet and maybe catch a nice little snack. She crossed the street and headed to a little diner she had spotted. She combed her fingers through her long, blonde strands before she entered.
The booth closest to the door was taken so she took a table nearby it. At the table down from that one, sat a man, a dark brunette. Thakorise sat so that she faced the man, but she did not look at him. Her attention was to the waitress that came up to her. She ordered a sandwich and a fruit drink before gazing out the diner window. She watched the people as they crossed the street.
Thakorise found that she much preferred this to home. Her streets were filled with houses, the closest things were businesses and fancy restaurants -the kind that required a jacket. Thakorise now spent much time in this part of the city getting to know it. It was the first time she had taken interest in anything outside her study.
She noticed for the longest time a few adolescents on the corner of the opposing street. They were enchanging something. From her experience, she knew that money was changing hands, but the hands it was leaving belonged to a very unhappy boy. He looked to be around her age and she found it sickening that he would throw his life away, but she found it exciting as well.
What she would give to have something unexpected in her life happen. Perhaps if her fiancee, Viktor, was to remove himself from the picture, she'd be fine. She couldn't just up and leave because the engagement was already announced. Naturally, she did not want to marry that pompous excuse for a pig. Her hands dug into her purse as her phone rang.

"Hello...Viktor, how do you do?...You don't say?...Well, I guess you can use the...No, I cannot come now, I have business to attend to...What...no...you better get back to your case Viktor. I have no business with that one or any others right now....Of course i'll join but for the moment i'd prefer...but what if it's no...what if its not what I want...I know...I know. Alright then...goodbye." she put her phone away and buried her face in her palms. "Good gods," she mumbled to herself, "why am I engaged to that buffoon. If only someone wouldst take me away. Ohhh."

Madeline returned with his coffee and he accepted it gratefully. He continued to read the paper while eavesdropping on the other conversation as well as a new one. The second one was between a lady and her significant other. he wasn't going to assume it was much more than that until he heard her mumbling to herself. Engaged. And she wanted to leave? Must have been forced. And he must have been truly unbearable for it to cause her such grief. He took note of her suggestive signs: Posture, expression, attire. And the man was named Viktor. A lawyer. Wouldn't be too hard to find in this town, especially for him.

Ray, taken a bit by surprise, had to hurry to catch up with Kali, sitting across from her in the booth.

He remembered the comment she had made on the street about working for her and her father. It wasn't like he cared. "Is that a bad thing? I'd think it would be great, y'know? Workin' for your dad. And besides, I think I'd make a pretty good bodyguard, if I do say so myself." He said, acting a little vain.

He was still smoking, and he wondered if this was a no-smoking restaraunt. Then again, nobody had complained yet, so he didn't care, regardless of the absence of an ashtray before him.

"But yeah, I mean, if the money's good. And I can think of worse employers around here..."

When her order was delivered to her, Thakorise began to eat leisurely. She felt uncomfortable in the restaurant as there was a red haired man in a booth on the other side of that section of the restaurant, that kept staring at her. She found it most uncomfortable and shifted her her seat a couple times.
When he took the liberty to come over to where she sat, Thakorise moved closer to the window nervously. The disgusting, smelly, beer-bellied excuse for a man sat beside her and placed an unwelcome hand on her shoulder.
"Hey darlin'" he drawled, "Wut it gonna be baby. I was thinkin' you an me could go an' 'ave some fun."
"No thank you, kindly remove your hand from my being and back off."
"Wut, think you too good for this old cit' dweller?"
"Please leave me alone, I am trying to have a decent meal here."

He moved closer to her and she gagged from the musty smell emanating from him. Thakorise looked around desperately for help while her hand slid slowly down to her purse. She did not want to pull her gun and knew he was close enough to overpower her, but she did not want to chance getting pushed around by him as she did not know his motives. As always, she was lawyer at heart but not very street smart.

Carlos was now walking briskly down the city streets. Seconds later you could hear a man yelling over the crowd, "Hey, stop that man." Carlos now started a dead run dropping a small table and a couple of cups. The man had just discovered he was now missing about a hundred dollars and was eager to seek revenge. Carlos turned the corner and ran into a restaurant. Looking around he could hear the man still after him, he hid next to the door as the man ran by looked around and continued on.

Breathing slightly heavy he again examined his surroundings. Just a normal small restaurant, patrons and such. The booth next to the door, the one he was nearly ontop of now, was occupied by a bigger blonde young man and a smaller young lady. He took a deep breath before placing himself at a table away from the windows. When approached by the waitress he asked for a cup of water. He looked around looking for any possible suckers. Next to the booth he had nearly fallen over was a woman with a man hanging over her. From his view it looked like a romantic couple needing a room, but then again not most took advantage of the surroundings. The reflection on the window behind them showed the disgusted look upon her face. He shook his head and stood up to walk over there, he was a sucker for gorgeous women. He approached their booth and calmly asked, "Is there a problem here?" His attire fit almost perfectly with that of a managerial role, decent button shirt and nice pair of black jeans. His previous scam had required it and now it looks almost helpful in this situation.

"I can think f one or two myself." Kali stopped to order a huge ham sandwich and a large sprite from the waitress. She may have been pretty small, but she had a huge apetite. "You should get something to eat."

Kali proceeded to taking a rather small book out of her back pocket. it was thin and black, she opened it to reveal a list of names. There was about four names a page and about five or six pages filled. "Past bodyguards in the last year," she stated sullenly.
