Papillon watched the mare curiously for a moment then shrugged his shoulders. "Quite a few shells shine." The talk about shinning things made him smile and think about his beautiful mate and how she glittered in the sun, quite literally. "You know, otters can help you open that... they are pretty good at it." He flicked an ear as he listened to a wave crash in the distance.

"That is probably true, but I do not depend on animals' help. If I had a familiar, then yes, but not just any random animal." She stated, raising her nose.

Then she noticed his chains, there was a set of keys hanging below his neck. One was relativly thin, and looking at the clams once more, it may just be thin enough to pry the clam's two shells open.

"Come closer will you?"

Papillon smiled at the mare as she raised her nose. "Well, what about me? I am just any random animal... well horse." He said with a soft chuckle again.

When she looked at his chest, he couldn't help but look down as well then he did as she requested and took a couple of steps closer to the mare. He hadn't even thought about the keys on him, he was so used to them slapping him in the chest with every step he took, he learned to ignore them all together.

Selena snatched the thinnest key as soon as he was close, her moved quickly and fluidly towards the clam, already pinned down solidly by her hoof. She swung her body around, so that he could not interrupt.

She fidgeted for only a moment. She used force to insert the key into the line that separated the two shells, shoved it far into the 'throat' of the clam, turned ninety degrees, and pushed the key upward. Opening the treasure chest.

Papillon was forced to follow the mare as she took a key that was chained to him. "What are you doing?" He asked as he watched the mare and simply let her do as she wished. Why bother? His blue eyes watched as she finally got the clam to open up and his eyebrows raised slightly.

"Well what is inside?" He asked, growing curious to see if the mare had actually found her... treasure. Papillon wondered how a treasure could be in such a small place. His blue eyes followed a butterfly as it flew to a new spot on his body, probably growing bored of the previous place it was resting.

Seeing him go along with her was a nice change to what she was expecting and prepared for. Usually, one would resist, tug at the chains, trying to pull them away from her. Perhaps scream a little at the quickness of it all, or maybe even try to hurt her to make her stop.

She was prepared to jump up, shift her body, or use her legs for defense. She was sure she could take the large stallion down, though he was taller and perhaps stronger than her. Though she was stronger than she looked. She was sure she could leave him tied up in his chains, with his butterfly friends trying to help him. She smirked at the thought.

Truth being that she probably couldn't, she could hurt him a little, but not leave him helplessly tied up. She was full of herself. And sooner or later, it would be her downfall.

So instead of running off with her now opened clam, she turned around to face him, she dropped the keys and answered his question. "In this one, there is some seaweed, some sand and..." She inspected the insides carefully once more, "a strange pink, squishy substance." She concluded, twisting her face with mild disappointment. No treasure.

He really didn't have a choice, but to go with what the mare was planning. The keys were chained to him and he didn't want to hurt her by pulling away. Papillon wasn't like the others, obviously.

The purple stallion watched the mare's movements simply while waiting for her to open the clam. His ears flicked towards her and the clam when she finally got it open. At least she didn't run off with the clam and leave him curious.

When she dropped the keys, the smacked into his chest but it seemed as though he didn't notice them hit him. He listened closely as she told him what exactly was in the little clam. "Hm... not very interesting. Move on to the next clam." Papillon said, simply curious as to what she seemed to be looking for and what exactly was in these things. He had heard stories, but didn't believe that something so interesting and possibly valuable could be in these little creatures of the sea.

Selena nodded at his comment and tossed the now-opened clam with little care.

She turned towards the pile of the clams, awaiting to be opened as well, but as she turned her head away from the great stallion she glared at him. She did it quickly, so he did not notice. She did not trust him.

She now noticed that the chains were completely wound around his body. Did they have a purpose? The thought of having them thump against his chest whenever he moved sent a shudder down her spine. Why did he wear them?

She frowned. It was not her business, to ask or judge, or even wonder. Everyone had their reasons, so did this stallion. She had to be polite and respect whatever reasons he had for wearing them, just like Brian taught her.

She gave a small nod, but with her body being turned away, the stallion did not notice as he watched a blue-green butterfly float on the wind. With his attention diverted because of the small, fragile creature, Selena could once more catch a glimpse of the chains he bared.

She frowned. She was not like Brian, and how ever hard she tried, she could not be the polite, kind little Soquili who accepts everyone and doesn't notice their differences. Or at least ignore them.

She was not Brian, she was Selena. She could be no one else, and no one could be her. She should just stop pretending, she decided.

So with that second-long debate ended she turned her head and openly looked at his chains, then looked at him.

She shrugged.

She will ask him later, right now she has clams to open. She chose one that was lager than the first and propped it up 90 degrees with her hoof. Then she looked back to the stallion and motioned at the keys.

"May I use those?"

Papi's blue eyes watched as Selena carelessly tossed the opened clam to the side. He glanced at her pile of clams then sighed and watched a blue butterfly fly passed her then float towards him. When he shifted positions slightly, the chains around him made an awful noise that he had become accustomed to. The sound of metal rubbing against metal was a horrible sound to the large, purple stallion at first, but as time drug on he learned to ignore the sound. Some found the chains interesting, some thought them scary, and some liked the sound they made.

He snapped out of his thoughts when the mare spoke and his ears quickly flicked towards her. "You have used them before, so why would I care if you used them again? As long as you tell me what is in the clam. I promise I won't take whatever possible treasure you find." She obviously was hiding something, but Papi didn't seem to truly care what she was hiding. He was simply curious about what was in the clams that she was so interested in.

Selena narrowed her eyes and smiled. "Its a deal."

So she began to work on the clams. She used Papi's keys slowly, careful not to damage the clams. She would press the key in between the 'lips' of the clam, and then prob them open. She went through half the pile, always finding the same disappointment she found with the first. She reported all her findings to Papi, as he asked. She continued her hunt for her unknown treasure. The minutes ticked off and now she was 3/4ths through her pile. But thought of a valuable little sphere pushed her on.

Her pile had started with twenty one purplish clams, now she was on the eighteenth. She had almost missed it, it was much smaller and plainer. It was a very ugly blue rather than the soft purple the other were. Selena didn't even remember picking it up...Perhaps this was the one? The clam that possessed her treasure? She hoped so. She snickered quietly to herself.

She positioned the clam carefully with her right hoof. She took the key set with her teeth and took the pointy, small key and shoved it in between the two layers of the small clam. She probed the upper lip skywards with one, smooth motion. It was open.

She peered inside the small creature, and for a moment, all she could find was a large pink jelly-like thing. Just like in all the others. But in this one there was no sand. She looked further and poked around inside. Something caught her eye. It was a silvery white. It was completely smooth and circular. It was a pearl. But Selena did not know that yet.

"I think I found something," She told Papi with a hint of a smile.

Papi watched the mare as she opened the clams then tossed them aside when she found nothing interesting in them. With each time she spoke, his ears flicked towards her. Each time was the same thing and slowly it got a bit boring, but he wouldn't leave.

She wanted to use his keys and he was a tad curious about what exactly she was looking for. His blue eyes followed her as she grabbed a clam, then the keys around his neck, and easily opened each clam. He sighed softly and fought the urge to just lay down and relax while watching the mare who seemed to be enjoying herself.

Had he just imagined that she found something or did she truly say those words? His ears perked and he watched as she pulled something out of the ugliest clam of all. "Oh? What did you find?" Papillon asked as he peeked into the clam after the mare. A small, circular object was inside. Was that what she had been searching for? "A pearl?"

This stallion perplexed Selena. He was so laid back. So passive. He also seemed bored. It annoyed Selena. She had one more question for him once she found her treasure. She had a list ready and waiting. but was this her treasure? It looked exactly as she had heard and imagined. But...something was wrong.

"A pearl you say?" She cocked her head, talking more to herself than the purple stallion standing near her, who also seemed confused.

She put it in between her back teeth and bit down. Was it a fake? Something didn't work here.

Papi watched as the mare started to bite down on the little white pearl. His head tilted slightly as he cocked a brow. "You know it isn't food, right?" He learned so much while stuck with the humans. His blue eyes watched the mare closely.

"What were you expecting to find?" Papi asked as he shifted slightly in his position. This mare seemed a bit unhappy with what she found in the little clam. Maybe she was expecting a shinier object or something bigger.

Selena wasn't listenig to what the stallion was saying. Something about the way he talked and acted towards her set her off. It annoyed her. She shot him a glare when he said that its not for eating. "Of course it isn't, Im checking to see if its fake, like biting down on a coin to see if it really silver or gold. Have you never done that?" She had assumed that he adored humans or at least had something to do with them by looking at his chains. She still wanted to know his story...

"I was trying to find something valuable..." she paused and wondered for a moment. it looked like it would be worth a blanket or two. "Do you know if this is worth anything? You are probably more familiar with the two-legger trade system than I am." She said while giving him a closer look at her finding.

He noted the glare and cocked a brow. It seemed as though she didn't like what he said about the pearl not being food. His ears flicked back towards his head then back towards her when she spoke. "Well if it came out of the clam, I figure it isn't fake," Papi said with a shrug of his purple shoulders, the chains rattling as moved slightly. Oh how he hated the noise.

When she spoke about him and the humans, his ears pinned to his head. It wasn't towards her, it was towards the word humans. Everything about them, he hated. "I'm sure it is worth a little bit of something... though humans prefer bigger pearls to use as jewelry." His voice was monotone, but his expression was a mixture of pain and hatred.
