To Quin, her eyes seemed to reach into his soul and pull is memories from him - as if she knew but wanted him to speak. It wasn't like a compulsion nor did it make him afraid, it was as though she was resonating with a deep sympathy, a strong connection.
"My name is Quintus, Quin..." he stammered, unsure where to begin and wondering why she had insisted on calling him 'crow'. "I am far from home, too far to go back" a sadness stole over him as he continued "I was searching for… something". He honestly didn't know why he had set out - only that his soul had felt the lack of that which it needed.
"I am not bad hunter, but couldn't find prey. I was desperate and tried to hunt on a pack's territory. The pack whose land I was on found me and…" he looked away. The beating, the pain, was still running through him - the vicious cuts and slashes. He had run for his life but, though the pack had eventually let him be, his underfed, ruined body had given up and he had staggered to what he thought was his death, despite his 'escape'.
A soft whimper escaped his lips as he thought of the kindness which had saved him once again - "I can't thank you enough…" his voice cracked again as he raised his eyes to look directly at Sati, then Kalain to show the depth of his feeling in them.
If he thought that Sati's eyes had touched his soul, Kalain's engulfed it. There was loss, a deep pain there which he knew could sympathise with his own. It was the older male who broke the gaze first, as though afraid he had revealed too much of himself in those few moments. It confused Quin - who were these enigmatic wolves who had saved him?

"I want you to come back with us" Kalain said, after a little silence - his voice soft, not demanding but lightly insistent. "You should not hunt for yourself for a while, and the fish here will soon run dry. We will help you back to our home, if you will let us…" He was relieved when the young male nodded, and wondered how long it would take them to get back with… Quin.
An odd name, Quintus, he had begun to think of him as 'Crow' already - Sati had told him she had seen a crow leading her to him, and to a pack who felt birds were living spiritual incarnations, this was, it seemed, an augury of sorts.
He'd have to think on it when they got back - although Quin was light, he couldn't put full weight on his left foreleg - he'd have to be supported - and his injuries would mean taking it slow. They had a long trek ahead of them.
"We'd best get started".
