Gen 10 logs for Snow Racer and his mate. Either Amberheart or Swordfall. Not sure which, hopefully will by end of logs. This takes place shortly before Cutter joins Skywise and Woodshot on the hill.

Quote:
Amberheart stretched and yawned. She blinked, seeing that other then one of her sisters, she was alone in their tree bole.

Quote:

“Finally up?” Swordfall asked.

Quote:

“Yeah,” Amberheart said, stretching. “Wheres dad?”

Quote:

“He said we're getting older and should have our own nests, if we want them, so he's treeshaping”

Quote:
Amberheart nodded a bit, though she couldn't imagine treeing on her own. “Vinewinder with him?” she asked, pushing away those thoughts. They were the future, not the now.

Quote:

“Yes. Father's teaching him”

Quote:

“Mother?” she asked, yawning again.

Quote:

“Nightwhisperer wanted to hunt, so mother took her.”

Quote:

“And not us?” Amberheart asked.

Quote:

“You weren't up and I didn't feel like it,” Swordfall replied. “Mother's going to be teaching me swords later.”

Quote:

“Oh,” Amber heart said. “Woodshot?” she said asking after her other brother.

Quote:
“With Skywise, he got up early and they're watching the stars.”

Quote:

“Where's Tyleet?” she asked after their last, and eldest sibling.

Quote:

“Who knows, mother said she likes to wander and not to worry.”

Quote:

“Oh,” Amber heart said. “Thank you.”

Quote:
“For?” Swordfall asked.

Quote:

“Staying so I'm not alone.”

Quote:

Swordfall just smiled a bit. “So, moon's high, what do you want to do?”

Quote:

Amberheart shrugged. “Look around the Holt?”

Quote:

“Works for me. Last one to the ground's an owl pellet!” Swordfall cried as she headed out onto the branch that was before their bole.

Quote:

“No fair!” Amberheart called after her. Her sister was already halfway down the tree by the time Amberheart poked her head out. There was only one way to beat her now. Amberheart gathered herself and leapt from the tree, launching herself downwards.

Quote:

*AMBERHEART* Swordfall shrieked in sending, watching her sister plummet.

Quote:

Amberheart Landed hard on something soft. *I'm fine!*

Quote:

“I'm not,” a male mental voice muttered.

Quote:

Amberheart scrambled off, to see that she had landed on some one. No wonder it was soft. He was all white with a wolf on his flank. She had seen him in the holt with her parents, but didn't know who he was. *Sorry,* she sent.

Quote:

“s'okay,” he mumbled, trying to stand. “Just my back, got another one.”

Quote:

*I'll get mother!* Swordfall said as she hit the ground.

Quote:

“I'm okay, really. “You cubs okay?”

Quote:

Swordfall narrowed her eyes, all concern gone. *We are NOT cubs!* she said, stamping a hoof.

Quote:

He winced. “Sorry, I hate when father calls me a cub too.”

Quote:
*I thought the rule was in the trees as you please, on the ground not a sound,* Amberheart said. *So how come you're talking.*

Quote:
Snowracer shrugged. “I don't like sending, anyway, that's cause of humans and trolls. I don't think either exist here. Anyway, there's a treeshaper who made all these great defenses around.”

Quote:

*Thats our father!* Amberheart cried, pleased.

Quote:

“Yeah well not only do they protect us, anyone close enough to hear us talking would see them first. They're kinda hard to miss, the huge twisting vine walls and all.”

Quote:

*With thorns,* Swordfall put in happily

Quote:

“With thorns,” Snowracer agreed, chuckling.

Quote:

“I'm Amberheart,” she said.

Quote:

“I'm Swordfall,” the other she said.

Quote:

“We're sisters,” Amberheart put in.

Quote:

“I could tell,” he said, chuckling.

Quote:

“You have a name?”Amberheart asked.

Quote:

“Of course I do!” he protested.

Quote:

“Well?” Swordfall asked.

Quote:

“Well what?” Snowracer asked.

Quote:

“What is it?” Amberheart asked.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 06, 2010 9:48 am

Quote:
“Whats what?” he asked.

Quote:
Amberheart giggled. “Your name, silly.”

Quote:
“Oh, I'm Snowracer.”

Quote:
“Snowracer? Swordfall asked. “What is snow?”

Quote:
“Cold and wet,” he answered. Trying to remember. Gobacks weren't big on remembering. His father told him that he was a Wolfrider now, but they didn't seem that much better at remembering, but then, he had met few of them. “When it's really wet it's slippery and hard to move in, but when it's less wet then it's soft and fluffy and fun to walk though and hunt in.”

Quote:
“Oh!” Swordfall said, “Father told us about the season of white cold. He said plants go to sleep and the animals hide. He said it's a hungry time.

Quote:
Amberheart shuddered. “I hate being hungry,” she said. “And cold.”

Quote:
“Well thats why the Gobacks spend so much time in with the furs, where it's warm. We only go out to hunt and fight trolls.”

Quote:
“Go backs?” Amberheart asked, curious.

Quote:
“Fighting trolls?” Swordfall asked.

Quote:
“Gobacks were my pack before Father decided we were going to be Wolfriders. And trolls try to keep us from the palace thats supposed to be ours. Apparently the Go backs got it back once, but the trolls took it over again.”

Quote:
“Wow,” Amberheart said.

Quote:
“Wow,” Swordfall echoed for a different reason. She tried to imagine that, taking up arms to reclaim their ancestral home. It sounded thrilling.

Quote:
“I think I'm glad that you're a Wolfrider now,” Amberheart said. “You could have died if you stayed there!”

Quote:
“I think it sounds interesting,” Swordfall said.

Quote:
“Not me,” Amberheart said. “I like being warm, well fed, safe, and surrounded by family.”

Quote:
“It's a little boring here,” Snowracer confessed, “but I don't remember the gobacks too well. I don't know if I liked it.”

Quote:
“We can unbore you, then you can be happy being here,” Amberheart said.

Quote:
“If you think you can, sure,” Snowracer said. “What do you want to do? Hunt?”

Quote:
“Mother and Nightwhisper are hunting already,” Swordfall said.

Quote:
“Oh, think they'll bring back enough meat?” Snowracer asked.

Quote:
“Yeah,” Swordfall said. “Mother's the best!”

Quote:
*Actually, that would be Strongbow, but your mother is quite gifted herself,* Cutter sent, dropping down to the forest floor.

Quote:
“Who are you?” Amberheart asked.

Quote:
Snowracer slipped behind the girls, tail between his legs.

Quote:
Swordfall blinked, watching Snowracer.

Quote:
*Cutter,* he sent. *You are Nightfall and Redlance's cubs, eh? You're so big already. Not long before you're adults and joining the hunt too.*

Quote:
“Cutter?” Amberheart blinked. “Then you're...”

Quote:
“The chief....” Swordfall breathed, awed.

Quote:
Amberheart's eyes widened. *I'm sorry! In the trees as you please, on the ground not a sound and I was talking, I'm sorry.*

Quote:
Cutter chuckled lightly. “In the holt it isn't so bad,” He said, dropping from the branch. “That may change, but for now this wood seems safe enough, but if you leave the holt, silent and careful, got that, cubs?”

Quote:
Amberheart nodded.

Quote:
Swordfall's nod was sharp and respectful. “We understand.”

Quote:
“And you?” Cutter asked Snowracer.

Quote:
“I'm bad at sending,” he whined, belly low to the ground.

Quote:
“Timmorns' blood,” Cutter muttered, “we've gotten even more like Timmorn's sire...” he shook his head. “Practice then. It's how we learn the bow, the sword, the hunt. Send more and it will get easier.”

Quote:
“He is right,” Leetah said, coming to stand at her mate's side. “When I first met him, I could not send at all, other then when I was healing.” *Now I can send whenever I must,* she sent, “Though I do prefer the music of a voice.”

Quote:
“How did you meet?” Amberheart asked, fascinated.

Quote:
Leetah chuckled lightly. “Ah cub, that is a story of it's own.”

Quote:
“We want to hear it!” Amberheart insisted.

Quote:
“Yeah,” Snowracer said, happy that the topic had shifted off of sending.

Quote:
“Well,” she said, “I am no storyteller like Twomoons.”

Quote:
“Does Twomoons know the story?” Swordfall asked.

Quote:
“I don't believe she does,” Cutter sent.

Quote:
“Should we invite her and do a howl?” Amberheart asked.

Quote:
Cutter and Leetah exchanged a look that needed no sending. Leetah nodded.

Quote:
“How about we tell you cubs the story, and you, Amberheart, could tell her the story later so that she knows it and can prepare for a full howl.”

Quote:
“Full howl?” Amberheart asked, awed that they were going to trust her to tell their story to the story teller. It was an important job.

Quote:
“With dreamberries,” Cutter said, eyes shining.

Quote:
Snowracer perked up. “I always wanted to try them.”

Quote:
“Me too,” Swordfall said. “Will father allow us to?”

Quote:
“The juice certainly,” Cutter said with a chuckle. “The wine is up to him. But you don't need the wine for a full howl. You can see plenty with the juice.”

Quote:
Amberheart nodded, eager. “I'll listen and learn the story right. I'll tell it to her well, promise!” she swore.

Quote:
Lettah chuckled and stroked Amberheart's hair gently. “I know you will cubling. We trust you.”

Quote:
“Wow,” Amberheart breathed. She settled in to listen to the story.

Quote:
“The Trolls had abandoned us to die in the wastes, but we wouldn't,” Cutter began.

Quote:
“Wait!” Amberheart cried.

Quote:
“Yeah,” Snowracer agreed. “That sounds like the middle of the story!”

Quote:
“Tell us about the trolls,” Swordfall agreed.

Quote:
Cutter chuckled. “That, cubs, is another whole story.”
PostPosted: Wed Jan 06, 2010 9:52 am

Quote:
“But it sounds amazing” Swordfall said.

Quote:
“Yeah!” Snowracer agreed. “I didn't know the Wolfriders dealt with trolls too.”

Quote:
Cutter laughed. “We always had, but it was different from with the Gobacks. My sire was the one who first found the trolls. But that also is another story.”

Quote:
“We want to hear about the trolls!” Swordfall said.

Quote:
“Yeah!” Snowracer agreed.

Quote:
“Amberheart?” Leetah asked.

Quote:
“I want to hear all the stories,” Amberheart said, eyes wide with wonder.

Quote:
“I know few tales of your sire and mother, beloved, save for how they died, I too would like to hear the story of how your sire found the trolls,” Leetah said.

Quote:
“Please?” Amberheart begged.

Quote:
“Alright,” Cutter chuckled, settling himself on a tree root. “My sire had a fondness for dreamberries. Many do, but he did more then most. We had no tree shaper at the time, so Bearclaw,”

Quote:
“Bearclaw?” Swordfall asked.

Quote:
“My sire,” Cutter explained.

Quote:
Swordfall's eyes went wide. “There's a story behind how he got his name too?”

Quote:
Cutter chuckled. “It has nothing to do with battling trolls,” he cautioned.

Quote:
“Troll story!” Snowracer insisted.

Quote:
“Okay, okay,” Swordfall said, rolling her eyes and settling in again.

Quote:
“Bearclaw was the one most aware of the dreamberry bushes, and he noticed that the fattest juiciest berries kept vanishing. The pack assumed that it was squirrels and rabbits. So Bearclaw said he was going to find the dreamberry thief and if it was woodland animals that we would eat well that eve. Everyone always said my sire had no patience, but he stayed by one particular bush through the new green and into green growing seasons. And then he smelled something odd, a scent that had been faint on other bushes, and heard a scraping below him.”

Quote:
Swordfall leaned forward in anticipation.

Quote:
Amberheart's eyes were closed, as she was seeing the scene before her. She didn't know what Bearcalw looked like, so in her mind he looked like Cutter.

Quote:
“So my sire stayed hunting still and silent as he saw a green hand rise from a hole that had appeared in the ground. He leapt from his hiding place and grabbed the wrist. He faced down the troll, an older troll even then, called Old Maggoty.”

Quote:
“What happened then?” Swordfall asked. “Did it end there?”

Quote:
Amberheart sighed. A story had to come in its own time, she was realizing. Every time some one asked a question, she lost the images in her head.

Quote:
Cutter drew his sword, New Moon, from it's scabbard. “My sire came away from a later encounter with this,” he said.

Quote:
“Wow,” Swordfall said, staring at it. “A troll used that?” she asked.

Quote:
“Actually, it turns out it was made for elven hands. Two-Edge, it's half mad creator forged it specifically for it to wind up with my sire.”

Quote:
“So your sire killed the troll who was using his sword?” Swordfall asked.

Quote:
Cutter chuckled and shook his head. “My sire's relationship with the trolls had little to do with fighting and blood shed. They shared a love of Dreamberries, and started trading. The metals the Trolls could craft, for the pelts and skins and fresh meat that could only be had above ground. The trolls taught Bearclaw to gamble, and regretted it. He won New Moon, this blade, in a game of toss dice.”

Quote:
“Toss dice?” Swordfall asked.

Quote:
“Ah, perhaps another time,” Cutter said, remembering the tales of how badly some of those games went, and the hostility between his sire and some of the trolls. He did not want that in his holt. “So that's the story. For dreamberries my sire stalked and hunted and met his first troll. All the metal we had since then, until we came to the Sun village, was troll made. The sun villagers made their own metal, but had no use for weapons.”

Quote:
“We got our weapons from trolls too?”
PostPosted: Wed Jan 06, 2010 10:18 am

Quote:
"The Gobacks probably made a little of their own," Cutter said, "But every weapon they showed to us had been troll made. Of course, where the Wolfriders bartered for weapons with the trolls, the Go backs took them from the dead bodies of would be attackers. The Gobacks and Wolfriders have always had very different views on how to deal with trolls. Maybe it had something to do with which trolls each group faced. Maybe not.But the Gobacks made a life of war. After war once, I vowed never again. Not even for the palace. The Wolfriders would not war."

Quote:
Amberheart shuddered a bit. "I'm glad. War sounds horrible."

Quote:
"It was," Leetah said softly.

Quote:
"It wont happen again," Cutter said grimly.

Quote:
"then why do you still carry a weapon?" Swordfall challenged, dismayed at the thought of never being able to fight at all.

Quote:
"For many reasons," Cutter replied. He drew New moon and held it so that it shone in the odd single mooned light of this new world. "For one, it was my Sire's. It is what I have of him left. For another, we do still use weapons to hunt. Another still, we still will fight if we have to. We will defend our home, and our own. There is a difference between a battle and a war. We will not war, but neither will be be driven from our home again!"

Quote:
Snowracer tipped back his head and howled his agreement, feeling more of a connection to being a Wolfrider then he ever had before.

Quote:
Swordfall tipped back her head, and joined the howl.

Quote:
Amberheart watched Cutter, wide eyed at how much noise they were making.

Quote:
Cutter joined in the howl, as did voices from all around.

Quote:
Leetah, however, was not so much Wolfrider that she joined in.

Quote:
Cutter stood. "I want to speak with Skywise, I will see you all later, cubs, beloved." He lept into the tree without making a sound or stirring a leaf.

Quote:
Swordfall's eyes widened. "Will I ever be able to move like that?" she asked in an awed gasp.

Quote:
"With practice, I am sure," Leetah said calmly.

Quote:
"Lets go practice!" Swordfall said excitedly.

Quote:
"Okay," Snowracer agreed.

Quote:
"Coming?" Swordfall asked her sister.

Quote:
Amberheart shook her head. "Have fun," she said, then watched as they dashed off. She looked to Leetah who was smiling sagely at her. "They're going to be close," she said softly, unsure if the gut feeling he had was right.

Quote:
"Most likely."

Quote:
she nodded a bit. "May... I ask you a question?" she asked softly.

Quote:
"Of course cub," Leetah said softly.

Quote:
"Am I a bad Wolfrider?" she asked softly. "I don't want to fight, I don't want to kill, I mean, other then to eat. I just want the days to be how they've been. I want to hear more stories, and just spend time like this. Does that make me a bad wolfrider?"

Quote:
Leetah chuckled lightly. "No, cubling," she said gently. "That just makes you your father's cub.

Quote:
Amberheart smiled, suddenly feeling much better. She spoke with Leetah a bit more, then ran off to find Twomoons.

Logs for gen ten - Two Paws and Branch walker - this takes place after the Winnowill howl.

Quote:
Two Paws stretched in the moonlight after the howl. That was fun, she'd learned a lot, and she liked stories. Who knew the Wolfriders had been through so much? She hoped to head more stories sometime. She headed towards the small hill. She knew they were doing a larger hunt, and would rather not have her and her siblings there. They were no longer cubs, yet not full grown. They still did small hunts, but the big game was for the elders. She laid out on the hill under the stars and closed her eyes.

Quote:
Aok. Aok... The odd word kept repeating in his head. Every time he closed his eyes, he saw her face, in every moment of quiet, he heard her voice. He knew what it was. Even if his parents hadn't gone through this, he would have gotten it from the howl. He had recognized her. And that meant she would have his cubs. But, was that all he wanted? He watched her walk away from the howl. He would have happily joined the hunt, but now all he wanted was to go to the girl.

Quote:
Vinewinder made her way over to her brother. “Branchwalker?” She asked.

Quote:
“I think... I recognized some one tonight,” he told his sister softly.

Quote:
“Wow, I can't wait to see the cubs,” Vinewinder said, pleased.

Quote:
“Me either... it's just...”

Quote:
“Just?” she asked.

Quote:
“I don't want what mom and dad have,” Branchwalker said softly... I want...”

Quote:
“What Redlance and Night fall have?” Vinewinder asked, “Like what Cutter and Leetah have?”

Quote:
He nodded. “I think I want that. Look at strongbow and Moonshade. I can't even imagine one without the other, they are a perfect team.”
PostPosted: Sat Oct 09, 2010 5:13 pm

Quote:
Vinewinder nodded. “Then talk to her, get to know her, and try. But even if it does not work out with her, it is only recognition. Not all who recognize, life bond. If it does not work with her, then after the call to recognize has passed, you can take up with some one else in the pack. There are many pretty females in the Holt.

Quote:
Branchwalker nodded. He didn't want any other female, he wanted the green girl with the golden hair that he had seen at the Howl. But would she want him, beyond the call of recognition? Well, one way to find out. It was just another sort of hunt, he supposed. He took a breath and headed up the hill.

Quote:
Two Paws heard someone approach and glanced up. At first she was confused. It wasn't anyone she knew by sight, then suddenly she felt like she did know him after all. Not just the way she knew others, but like the way she knew herself. A word wormed it's way into her head. Rete. She had never heard the word before, but it's existence filled up her awareness until all she saw was him, and all she heard was the odd word. Rete. No, not a word, she realized. A name. But it couldn't be his name, she'd never heard it before. She was sure she would have remembered a name like that. Rete. She scrambled to her feet, feeling clumsy and unsure.

Quote:
Branchwalker smiled at her softly. “Hello, shade and sweet water to you,” he said in a quiet voice.

Quote:
“Sh...shade and sweet water...” she murmured, unsteady still from the force of the word, and her awareness of him. After the story she wondered if maybe he had mind magic, like Winnowill, and he was doing this to her. Certainly he and the name seemed connected.

Quote:
“I'm Branchwalker,” he said softly, though he almost used his soulname. He'd have bet anything that she knew it.

Quote:
“I don't know you,” she said flatly, rather then giving her name in return. He smelled like the pack. She should know, his scent was all she could smell at the moment. Her ears flattened against her head.

Quote:
“My sire is Bloodhunt, my mother is not a Wolfrider, no matter how much we try to convince her she is. She is Aife.”

Quote:
Two Paws hesitated, then nodded. Bloodhunt she knew, he was like Strongbow in many ways, and they had all seen him challenge Cutter at the howl. So then they probably were pack, and okay. But she didn't like her mind not being her own. She wanted her vision and sense of smell back. She wanted to hear something other then that odd name, and she was sure he was connected to all of it.

Quote:
“We should probably talk,” Branchwalker said softly. Then he sighed, watching her. “Why are you so scared of me?” he asked, softly. Maybe she didn't want to have his cubs after all. That was unfortunate, since recognition didn't give them a choice in the matter.

Quote:
“I'm not scared of any Elf!” she protested. She stood straighter

Quote:
“Good,” Branchwalker said with a laugh. “Good to know. I would hate to be falling in love with a coward.”

Quote:
“Falling in love?” She squeaked.

Quote:
“Well, why not?” he asked. “Many mates stay together after Recognition. Look at Leetah and Cutter. And she was afraid of him when they Recognized. You already said you aren't afraid of me, so we're ahead of the game.”

Quote:
She just stared at him, then sat down, hard. “Recognition?” she repeated, needing to confirm.

Quote:
He nodded. “Aok,” he said softly. He sat beside her and ran a hoof through her hair. I've had your soulname since I saw you at the howl, and I think you have mine.”

Quote:
“Rete,” she whispered, feeling the truth of it. He said his name was Branchwalker, but she knew better. He was Rete. Recognition. Well that explained a lot. It also, oddly, made this all less scary. She knew what this was, and she knew plenty of elves who had survived it. And he wanted to love her, to be lifemates, not just lovemates. She nuzzled him experimentally. She could feel his pleasure at the small motion. “We...we can try it...” she whispered

Quote:
“Really?” he whispered back, almost afraid to hope.

Quote:
She nodded. “We can see. You had best take care of me when I am carrying our cubs and unable to hunt.”

Quote:
He nodded and kissed her gently before leading her off into the bushed. “I would love to, Aok,” he whispered as he let the bushes cover him.
