"I make it a habit to remember the names and faces of all our people," Kylael dismissed her sputtering. "Made," he corrected himself, his words sinking in a bit after he had said them. He had made it a habit to remember. He was no longer a council member. They were not a single people to govern anymore, which really just made him one of the nameless crowd... He wasn't certain if he should relish the releif of burden, or seethe over how easily they were scattered.

Looking around to avoid looking at him, she sighed. "It is a bit too much to accept, isn't it, sir? It just…" she looked up, eyes starting to water. "It's just… too much to accept. Everything's changed." She turned in a circle, looking around her.

Kylael cringed inwardly at the naked grief on her face. How selfish of him to think that only he had been overwhelmed by what had happened? How could he have ever considered himself a councilmember when he had forgotten that his people were struggling with the chagnes that had been rained down upon them? "It is a good deal," he murmured, brushing his foot across the ash covered floor. "Much has changed, and much will continue to do so. However, that is a fact of life. Nothing is ever stationary."

Tesia didn't really comprehend what he had just said. She spotted a lump in the ash and hurried over, thinking it might be something important. A child, maybe. Or an old friend. She stopped and stared at it, unable to destrub the ash to find out which.

"Tesia?" Kylael frowned, wondering what had caught her attention so. He followed her gaze to the lump and winced. He prayed that it was just a rock. She didn't need to see an old friend or a destroyed egg.

She just stood over it and stared, then looked up. "What should we do?" she asked in a small voice.

A good question. One that he had asked himself countless times. With wooden steps, he forced his way to her side. "Don't look," he whispered, hoping to save her any unecessary pain.

"But… we need to know," she spoke forlornly, still in that small, lost voice.
