My definition is "the modern religions which are based upon the pre-Christian religions of the West".

I don't really like the term myself, but my HP insists on using it, and so if I have to use it, I'll use it as Adler did.

I consider my path to be nature oriented. To me it means that I work through the natrual world around me and recognise it as an extention of the Old Ones. Where as a "ceremonial" or "traditional" path often works with ancient symbols and/or the names of specific pantions of gods, "nature oriented" paths are often more fluid, shamatic, or based on observing the local lifeforms.

I have had a realization recently that has altered my perception of the definition of "nature orientated".... Even working with a ceremonial magick style system is nature orientated. Working with sigils that are imbued with energy, associations of planets, specific deities (or even beings associated with different elements), energy manipulations, etc. are all apart of the Universe that Nature is apart of. It is all natural even if it's not on the planet beneath our feet. The energy currents that run through our planet, run through the Universe, hell even some through other astral planes.

Do I follow a nature-orientated path? from the above definition, yes.

What exactly do you mean when you say nature is sacred?

I mean that it is something to be honored to be taken care of and given respect. That in it’s own way it has a divine quality to it.

So you work with the genus loci? I've never really done that. Do you have a special technique that you use to contact those spirits?

Mostly it’s like building any relationship, I start slowly by going to that place, spending time there, taking care of it (cleaning up litter, burying dead things). Then working up to meditating there, concentrating on the places unique properties, then make an small altar out of what is there naturally and make offerings that would suit the unique energy of the area. After doing that for a while (6 months to a year) I meditate to contact the guardian spirits there and start to build a relationship with them.

Loona Wynd
Have you found any significant differences between different places like a school vs a business location?

Yes actually I have. I am not sure if it is because the energy of the people who have come there has mixed with the inherent energy of the land there or if it is simply that the land has always given off that energy and drawn that type of energy to it.

Loona Wynd
Do you have specific trees you work with for specific reasons?

Yes, though my reasons tend to not follow any of the charts or pre assigned purposes I have seen in books. There was a willow I worked with for healing, after it was taken down (something that saddened me to no end) I started working with an oak for healing, prosperity and knowledge (anything to do with my path or education) there is a maple I work with for calming and grounding the list goes on.

Loona Wynd
Can't they be personifications of nature as well as ruling over nature?

Yes, they can. I didn’t mean to imply they didn’t. I was trying to get across that I don’t see them as separate beings that direct nature, they are nature so they direct themselves.

I would say that my faith is very nature oriented.

What it means to me is to have a profound sense of respect and reverence for the natural world and its astounding complexities. Therefore I spend a great deal of time observing the natural world around me and truly appreciating it for what it is. Nearly every time I am on an outing I see things that cause me to give pause to appreciate what I see, whether it's a beaver crossing the river, a doe drinking from the oxbow lake west of town, or a bald eagle roosting in the trees overlooking the river. With each experience I give thanks to Afsati for revealing these marvels to me, and do my best to leave without leaving any trace that I was ever there.

When I see nature defiled by the careless actions of humans, it upsets me, but I cannot say that I am completely exonerated from having done so in my lifetime either.

I do not see hunting or fishing as a bad thing though so long as you are doing it out of necessity and not just for sport. While others may not agree, I also make a point of giving thanks to the spirit of the creature I have taken the life from for providing for myself and my family, and that I intend to make use of everything that I can.

As for the rest, I do my best to lead a clean lifestyle, I do not litter, I recycle what I can, and waste as little as possible. This again goes back to the mindset of attempting to leave as little trace that I was ever here as possible.

I really like that thought of a nature oriented path. I have been thinking that maybe my Underworld Tradition could be considered nature based.
