Well psshht. She wasn't about to just -stare- at his a** or something... (though she did sneak a peek while he was pulling his pants on. ;D ;D ;D).

"I think it'll be easier to shop when I'm not having to listen to the call of my stomach. Let's dive into the local cuisine a bit, then we'll fish up some more clothing."

Though she had to admit she wasn't expecting to be finding any 'proper' shoes out there, so it was a good thing she'd been taking care of her only pair. Not that she wouldn't have mind picking up a nice pair of sandals or something.

Especially when they were right on the beach~!

"I may. Give me a minute and I'll check." Kanda answered again, peeling himself out of the water to towel off, a job which was quicker-done than it would have been for Yossarian with his shorter fur. MmMmmmm!

However, he would get to take a trip out into room to pull out a..somewhat clean set of clothing to start dressing, starting with his pants.

"Do you care to go out, or do you want to rest while I go alone?"

Or something.

Ho ho ho!

"But first, we'll go and enjoy a nice walk. Maybe I'll try one of those tunics, just for you~" he added, before starting to dry out his hair. Dry dry dry! It was a nice feeling.

"Maybe tomorrow we'll hit the beach with the kids. I doubt there will be any seals to get their feet this time!"

OH KANDA, WOE WAS YOU!

And woe was Squalo, who just frowned at Takeshi's blissful state of being, ears flattening back. Hmmm. It was actually quite excellent to see he was sleeping while he got dressed.. though he hadn't been -quite- as responsible as his cousin, leaving him with somewhat sandy clothing.

SANDYYYYYY.

"Hnnngh..."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 07, 2010 6:38 pm

"... Alright, then." He couldn't argue with a proposal of food, and now that they actually had some cuisine accessible to choose from that wasn't kill something in the bush and eat it, not to mention a decent coin pouch to pay, the whole idea just... yeah, he was so, so down that it wasn't even funny. "I'm sure there's an excess of seafood outlets in the area," he noted. "I can only assume it should be fresh, too..."

Well, that was a given, right? After all, they could practically spit into the ocean from here and... well, he didn't expect that bird people would be very fond of the typical poultry staples they had up north. (Was that 'racist' to think at all?)

Either way, though, he'd pulled on his shirt (yet again a baggy and oversized, hopelessly unadorned, but more importantly CLEAN canvas colored thing) and finished the dressing ritual off with a last toweling of his hair, tying it up messily with the old band so it would at least be manageable to go out with. A little curlier than usual, sure-- but uh... nope, he'd just slug anyone that hassled him for it. Besides, the sword at his side would make up for any emasculation the hair provided!

"Are you ready to go now?" he asked, trying not to sound terribly impatient, but figuring she was just as eager to get out and moving (and EATING) as he was.

And while Aster might have snuck some guilty purposeful peeks at Yossarian's behind, Shae hardly seemed to notice at all while Kanda went about dressing-- all too used to the casual changing, if anything. Whatever barriers of chasteness or decency they'd had long ago were gone, and it was just... easier not to care. Why bother?

"... Thank you," she did, however, mumble very quietly, rolling her head the slightest bit to watch while he rifled through his things. "I-- ah... I appreciate it..." And there, there was a slight trailing off-- perhaps only because she was forcing herself to sit back up, despite the groan and crack and reluctance of her muscles. "... And I can go out... I mean, I-- ... I'm... sorry, that I've been like this lately..."

And what exactly was 'This', now? Depressed? Useless? Miserable? Some combination of the three? Probably D, but she didn't elaborate on it any more than that. Sitting around wouldn't do anything to make her arm heal or improve her mood. Hell... being left alone would've probably done her mind more harm than good, for the state it was in.

Maybe a walk would help clear her head? If nothing else, it'd stretch out those weak, stiff old legs.

(Surprisingly, too, in the meanwhile, even Squalo's limping about to get dressed hadn't roused Takeshi from his blissful snooze-- all the better for the Koshka.)

"Well then, I can't wait," Hanna teased, grinning from ear to ear and even chuckling to herself while she waited for her dearest, darling companion, humming a few notes while he went about his business.

"I bet they'd enjoy that," she did add, however, " deciding to gaze out the window and stare off toward the ocean, just for that. "... Nothing's more therapeutic than a good swim in the clean, cool ocean... I could use a good soak in it, myself..."

Oh yes, among other things-- BUT ANYWAY... yes, waiting on Jade. Surely, those two were going to make a lovely lunch date out of their shopping and eating and walking venture, right?

Aster stretched as she peeled herself off of the bed, crossing the room to practically GLUE herself to Yossarian's chest to plant a quick kiss on his lips. KISS KISS <3.

"As ready as I'm ever going to be. If we stay here much longer, my stomach may start complaining about the whole 'I want food' thing it's got going on." she answered afterwards, stepping back away from him (so he could move freely). Mmmm, handsome man <3. Then again, he -was- healing up (didn't see any sign of scarring to happen).

HmmmMMmmm.

"So lead the way~"

Hmm. It seemed as though Shae was going to at least get out and do some good things for herself. That was rather nice!

"Well, the best way for you to get your strength back is to go out and stretch your legs. Gives us time to do something with ourselves." Kanda said to Shae, tying it hair out (God it was getting long. HAIRCUT, GO!) of his face before donning Mugen against his hip.

Felt so nice to be able to regain the true familiarity of his body (when one lived with a sword for so long, they became dependent on it to some extent), but first he had to wait for Shae to be on her feet and ready to move.

Wouldn't be too bad, though.

Jade was pulling on a rather dusty-looking shirt (Felt so strange to still have no 'uniform' to don, ha ha) while Hanna admired the view. Hmmm, being dressed was ever so nice. Especially when they actually had somewhere to go while looking decent!

"But first, to see just what we've gotten ourselves into~" he said, offering Hanna his arm.

SHALL WE?
PostPosted: Mon Jun 07, 2010 8:17 pm

"Alright, then." ... Yes, he was healing up, and if he was lucky, that nasty little gash down his cheek would heal without a trace-- but anyway, the time had come to take their leave, so he headed right for the door without further delay, glancing back over his shoulder to make certain she was following... aaand maybe he'd offer her an arm once they made their way down the stairs (he did) to ground level.

Nicostrato briefly looked up to observe them as they headed for the door, but otherwise didn't comment, just secretly thankful the duo (and hopefully, their companions) no longer reeked of fetid skunk. He didn't mind housing foreigners... so long as they maintained some level of proper hygiene.

Within just a few steps they were off and out the door, onto what looked like... yep, it really was a vast, beautiful wooden boardwalk spanning for long stretches in either direction along the sea-side, lined with buildings, pleasantly populated with locals (some of whom gave them odd looks, naturally, but Koshka were hardly a common sight) and even a smattering of peddlers with carts and stands full of different treats, trinkets, and wares.

The whole town felt pleasant, and lively, and just... absolutely non-threatening. Yossarian could hardly believe it. "... Well, I suppose we're to just... pick a direction, and walk," he concluded simply, glancing down at his companion before doing just that. For him? He went left. No particular reason for it, but it seemed like a good way!

... Second to leave would of course be Hanna and Jade, the former nodding appreciatively as she hooked her arm around his, ready to set off, skip down the stairs and, very much like those who'd come just a few beats prior, drink in the wonderfully light air and temperate sunshine out of the boardwalk.

"Ah, would you look at these people..." she sighed there, almost dreamily, gazing off, down at the beach they could've just run down to greet, where Occello women were herding rowdy children splashing in the waves. "I missed this sort of atmosphere in the desert... but I digress-- we're to go explore the city's inner workings. Should we travel further inland, or just wander for a bit?..."

She was really at his mercy-- quite possibly the only person ever who felt fairly comfortable putting herself in such a 'vulnerable' position around the guy, too. But hey! She wasn't scared. IT WAS ADVENTURE.

... Which left one last group that needed to depart, if not a bit later than the rest, Shae taking a few longer seconds to at least try stretching her muscles out. As expected, she was still stiff and sore all over, but Kanda was right; getting out was really the only way to get better, and sitting here wouldn't do her any good.

And the hair tie? Well... it seemed like he'd either forgotten the request of just not found a spare, so she'd have to deal with it. Sure, there was still a certain bizarre discomfort in having her hair 'long' and down, but... eh. She'd live, right?

"R-- ... Right." Thus, it was time to slide off the bed, using her good hand to set Del on her shoulder before pushing off the mattress with it, getting to her feet, a bit stiffly, but ready to trail along.

Now just WHAT they'd be doing? She didn't really know... but whatever. Something was better than nothing, right?

She took his arm too, waving to the Occello man at the front desk as they took their leave and seeming to just RADIATE JOY at Yossarian's side. Man, she was like a happily ma-.. like Langston. Well, kind of.

Oh woowwwwwww!

Aster marvelled at the boardwalk outside, finally getting a chance to take a -really- nice look at the whole scenery. Oh man! She was just -loving- it all, radiating a whole different brand of joy at it. Perhaps it was a little bit of nostalgia prompting it. Then again, she -did- sort of miss her home (but she'd already established it).

To the left? Why, then she'd follow him that way as well!

"Well, I'm sure the seafood here is just amazing. That'll be a nice treat~"

Fortunately for Aster and her Beau, Jade would be inclined to take the road that branched to the right of where the lovebirds had wandered off (On purpose? Most likely).

"Well, I think we may be able to walk down along the boardwalk to see if there are any clothing shops~. It seems like the best location for a place like this." he suggested, motioning to several tents that were set up not too far ahead, before adding;

"And then once I'm sure I won't go naked for the rest of the week, we'll look over some local pharmacies. I feel like we may need to stock up on things to patch up this lot. They do have this way of attracting disaster, hmm~?"

Only once Shae was ready to go did Kanda actually offer the hairtie to her (What, he hadn't forgotten! Honest!), and...half-offering an arm. What? He could be a gentleman (and she'd probably like to have the option available), but once outside it was somewhat... overwhelming to see that there were actually SEVERAL places they could go and look through.

Hmm.

"Is there anything you feel like we'll need to see before anything else?"

As for Squalo...

There was a glee about being free of Takeshi for a grand total of five minutes!!...Until he realized his cousin and the ladies and stuff had LEFT.

God, and he could feel it radiating off of her, too; it was just that insanely potent. Not that Yossarian lacked the same sentiment in moderation, of course, both secretly pleased and relieved by just how relaxed it all was. Sure, he had his sword at his side, ever-ready for use, but somehow he doubted he'd ever need to draw it. The only trouble they really had to fix now was feeding themselves and then maybe getting some spare clo--

"Heeey, would you look at that? Seems I'm lucky enough to sight a northern couple today!"

Whoa whoa whoa, who was that calling them ou-- oh... well, it was one of the vendors they happened to be migrating towards, actually: a blue-gray, heron-like fellow just a few inches shorter than Yossarian, as it were, his straight beak split in one truly amused grin. What was he selling, though? his cart seemed to have some sort of... food-like setup, with a chest in the back (refrigerated?) and some kind of dishlike wok thing on top.

"Excuse me?" the Koshka grumbled suspiciously, unsure what to make of this new... solicitation? He didn't quite know. But the man just let out a squawk of laughter.

"Oh, I didn't mean to interrupt!" he chirped, "you two were just looking awfully hungry and... well, I'll have you know that my fish tacos are the best in the city!"

"........."

"Come on, what say you? I bet that northern palette's never tasted anything as fresh or delicious!"

Yeah, Yossarian just gave up and looked back at Aster for that one. Did they trust the street food here? Were they feeling that adventurous? (... Then again, if they got food out here, they could probably just sit in the sand a few meters away and have an outdoor brunch, which might be-- NO, NO HE WASN'T REALLY CONSIDERING IT THAT MUCH.)

It was certainly for the better that Hanna and Jade were off and far away by then, on their own magical journey toward the city's textile market, wherever that was, in search of clothes, and then probably drugs, and then MAYBE food, in that order.

"Almost karmically so," she noted ironically, with a light laugh. "... But I think that sounds like a fair plan. Always better to be prepared..." And God only knew she was running on desperate reserve supplies of her own. "Maybe we can pick up some extra clothing for them, too-- you know, just in case they don't really find anything proper for themselves..."

Because the two of them were totally some sort of peculiar, dysfunctional Mommy-Daddy duo tending their children.

ANYWAY, yes... walking. She could do walking with the usual juice of life in her system, which she'd dosed up on before dawn, and was feeling just peachy, really!

"Oh, also--" And one more reminder. "While we're out for pharmaceuticals, I think we should look into something for all those residual sunburns, too... Surely, Occello have to tend their skin with something while they molt..."

Right?

Oh, well then, it seemed like Shae would be getting her hair-tie after all, which she accepted with a quiet mumble of thanks, holding it in her one good hand and even obligingly resting her arm over Kanda's for the stair descent... which served as a convenient support for her admittedly weak legs. Once down and a few steps outside, she could finally get that messy red tangle on her head taken care of, reaching up to--

.... Wait.

Oh, dammit.

It was only in the act of trying to affix the tie that she realized just how impossible the task was with one hand only, since she both had to hold AND tie simultaneously and that just... wasn't going to work. Whatever exhilaration or pleasure had come from the fresh exposure to the boardwalk drained immediately as she frowned, and sighed, deeply.

"... Ah... actually, would you... help me tie this back, please? I-I can't seem to get get it..." Or, translated: I AM UNABLE TO DO THIS, SOB.

That humiliation aside though, she was really alright for just going wherever he deemed necessary. Being a leader took energy. Being a passenger... just felt easier, and more appropriately resigned. The destination was really irrelevant to her if the only goal remained leg stretching and exercise (... and maybe eating).

. . .

Hmmmmmmmm. Aster seemed to be giving the little set-up a look of some semblance of appraisal. On the one hand, it she had a lot of doubts as to the lack of freshness of the fish being used (simply because of the availability of it), so most of her snooping had to do with the clenliness.

Hmmm.....

"Lemme guess. This set up is for the tourist-season, yes? Makes it easier to roam the beach when it's full of visitors. That's smart!" Aster finally appraised, settling that the vendor's cart was legit-enough, before looking to Yossarian.

"I think fish tacos sounds pretty good." she decided, offering him a smile. YES PLZ? Anything, really, sounded delightful to her tummy and if they were going to be out and 'vacation'y, they might as well enjoy being outside!!

"Goodness, if we're going to be spending time on the beach, some sort of 'screen' will be needed for everybody, currently burnt or not!" Jade agreed on the note of the sunscreen, peering into some of the tents as they passed by, before stepping in to one of them.

"Well, this looks promising!" he mused, earning a slightly puzzled look (probably due to the Koshkaness... or the Mench-ness, perhaps, of the duo) from the rather.. PINK lady who was tending to the booth. How very.. Flamingo!

Jade certainly was enjoying looking through the wares, at the very least.

"...."

Kanda settled the matter of Shae's hair in a rather quick fashion, if only to spare her the embarassment of having to have HIM tie it back for her, but once that was done, they could be OFF!

To where?

Well...

"Do any of these streets appeal to you?" he asked her, once they'd gotten outside, looking down to his companion with a slightly curious face. HMMM? She certainly had to have -some- variety of opinion, right?
PostPosted: Mon Jun 07, 2010 11:29 pm

The heron vendor, almost surprisingly, seemed perfectly happy to step back and allow Aster whatever inspection she felt necessary, waiting until she had seemingly finished before he returned to his little stand back to fuss with something near the wok-- a cutting board?

"Indeed it is, young lady!" he chirped, smiling even brighter before, very much like Aster, looking oh so expectantly towards Yossarian. "So then, fine sir... daring enough to give my service a try?"

The Koshka just... paused for a moment, and then, regrettably, gave up, fishing a few coins out of their allowance pouch. "... I suppose."

"Excellent! Excellent!" And no sooner had he given the go ahead did their vendor-now-chef dig into the guts of his cart (which was, for the record, crammed full of ice), whipping out a rather massive looking knife, and then... a whole SIDE of some fish, clearly having been a very, very recent butcher job, and a small container of something loose and yellowish... batter? "I'll have your order ready in just a minute or so-- two for each of you, hmm? I'll bet you've both got healthy appetites!"

"..." Yossarian remained a little suspicious of all the sweet fast talking, but he had to admit, watching the guy work was rather impressive, in a way.

The filet was butchered into more manageable strips, swiftly floured and batter dipped, and hurled into the wok full of oil with an appetite whetting hiss. They only took a minute or two to cook, quite literally, before he yanked them out and set them to one side, rifling back through the cart guts to pull out a couple of... doughy soft taco shells? And chuck them in too. Once they'd been evacuated, he gave them each a swipe of some odd sauce, dumped the fish into each taco and put rather dainty looking garnish of lettuce on top, passing each 'paired' meal over in little more than a cradle of white butcher paper. "There you are!" the man grinned, "enjoy!"

"... Thank you," Yossarian finally managed, passing the payment over as he hesitantly accepted his meal, and just sort of... looked at it, uncertainly. Well uh... it was time to go sit somewhere and try this stuff, right?

(Sadly, it actually smelled and looked pretty good too, dammit...)

"Oh, yes, of course," Hanna, all the while, was already having quite the time as they hit upon their first clothing venue, quick to start rifling through garments and delighted with what she found. Sure enough, just as expected, the local population had... well, a very practical and pleasant sense of aesthetic. The available tops consisted mostly of comfortably open-necked tunics, some with fairly ornate embroidery or dressing, but all made of soft cotton, and nothing with a sleeve past elbow's length (no doubt to accommodate fair weather and feathery arms). Pants were similarly tailored, for the most part, many with loose ties or sashes to fit the wearer comfortably and, for the most part, cutting off just below the knees or so. Sure, there were some trousers, but.... that clearly wasn't the popular trend.

"Oh! Well, these are beautiful," she marveled out loud, perhaps for the benefit of the flamingo woman who'd taken up watching them. What she pulled out, of course, was a nice cobalt blue number with light silver-gray trim. Hell, it even had a vaguely oriental looking neck and buttons. "... I think this one could look strapping on you, Jade. It's a good color for those eyes."

And oooh, she'd just have to find something violet for Yossarian, too! Aster... hmm, well, a strong scarlet or robin's egg blue, maybe. Squalo definitely needed silvers and grays, Kanda could stand for something outside the usual black...

(Because yes, she was already thinking that far ahead and entirely delighting in the luxury of it.)

While she didn't really bother to speak up about it, there was no doubt Shae appreciated Kanda's quick discretion and, with her hair finally roped back in a workable ponytail, she felt a bit less self-conscious and out of place. Sure, it was a small and largely unimportant thing, but... really, she just didn't feel like her when the hair got too long. It was an anxiety she didn't need on top of her arm!

That taken care of, though... now she actually got to drink in the boardwalk more thoroughly, because Kanda had asked a very valid question and she didn't know how to answer it.

"I... guess... that way looks alright?..." she finally reasoned, conveniently toward the very opposite way Aster and Yossarian had went... if only because it looked a little quieter, and less crowded, and hopefully more peaceful. "... What about you?"

Yes, really, his opinion was something she would happily just go along with too!

It wasn't to be ungrateful or anything-- Shae knew she was lucky and all to have a partner who cared enough to try going out on that limb of seeing what she wanted and all, but... again, that kind of decision making was, in itself, tiring, and she felt just as content lagging along with whatever he decided. Food? Clothes? Medicines? Just walking in general? Yes, certainly, any and all of that would be fine.

She could just be the quiet, pleasant-as-possible 'passenger' at his arm in the meanwhile.

It was sort of fun to watch, she had to admit. Certainly the man had a talent for fish! Aster was a lot less hesitant to take up the offering of the food once it was cooked, though she did look to Yossarian when it seemed as though he was looking for a place to go take up a seat.

HmmMMmmm.

"Let's go sit on the beach~" she offered up as a suggestion, the idea of sitting on the sands while eating very much appealing to her. MMMMM! Sounded very delicious to her, actually. Om nom nom nom~?

"Then we can go look at clothing off of the boardwalk that way~"

...
.....

UNAWARES THAT JADE AND HANNA WERE ALREADY CONSPIRING TO CLOTHE THEM.

"Well, blue has certainly always been my color, has it not?" he mused back at her as he chuckled, producing a very... CANARY YELLO tunic from one of the racks, seeming to give it some thought, before looking to his comrade again;

"I do think that Kanda could use some color~"
..
...
Was he suggesting that they put Kanda in -YELLOW-???? That would have been something hilarious to see. If by hilarious he was thinking horrifying. Because it was just that.

Horrifying.

"Then we'll go that way. It's as good as any, really." Kanda returned, giving the entire area a sort of curious look as he walked through it. Cafe, bookstore, lots of places to eat and lots of interesting looking little shops... not that Kanda had too huge of an inclination towards hobbies.

Or else he may have been snooping a little bit more curiously. Hmmm....

"Is there anything standing out to you?"
PostPosted: Tue Jun 08, 2010 12:26 pm

"... Alright, then. Sounds fair enough." She had totally come up with the idea, not him! Nope! Yossarian was really only humoring her as they sauntered over to do just that, almost effortlessly hopping off the side of the boardwalk (which only provided a miniscule drop, just a foot or two) and into the soft, fine, still=damp sand. He couldn't feel it between his toes or anything, but there was definitely a difference between this and the desert.

It had to be the lapping waves further down-- the sound and smell of real ocean (without seals).

Just a few more meters of walking left them with a nice, comfort spot to sit down in, too, which he did, all those stiff muscles still complaining with loud pops as he settled, eyed his still-hot handful of food and, with a slight grimace... tested it.

He'd initially just been making sure it wasn't poisoned (... or something) before Aster dug in too, but much to his surprise, even shock, at the sudden realization that it actually tasted... good. And even mostly fresh. Damn, made him want to scarf down a few more bites, but first like any good gentleman, he had to wait on her to try it too, because that was just... proper and not slovenly.

"What do you think of it?"

"True enough," Hanna agreed, putting the blue garment over her shoulder as the start of an inevitable 'to buy' stack just as her dear partnet pulled up the most peculiar (not to mention BRIGHT) yellow number, studying it with a scrutinizing eyes.

"... You know, I think you're absolutely right about that, however--" Always with a however, eh? Not that it wasn't accompanied by a chuckle anyway. "I think that might need a little more black before we can wrangle him into it without excessive force."

She did have a point there, as hilarious as a bright yellow Yuu would've been. Still, with a little rifling, she DID find something with the same blinding yellow on all its edges and buttons on a black base-- again, with an appropriately oriental looking undertone.... and oh! Another yellow trimmed one, except the base was a nice, clean, pretty white. "Oooh, look at this one! I think white could be lovely on him, too, you know... All monochromatic to go with his fur, and then a yellow highlight would stand out beautifully, don't you think?"

God poor Kanda was probably going to be one of the most victimized fashion guinea pigs of all, but come on, he was just so fun to dress up!

Not that Hanna wasn't already rifling through stacks of some smaller sizes, too, because in the end, nobody would be safe.

Going from open deserts full of nothing to pleasantly bustling streets was still a bit of an adjustment, as far as Shae was concerned, knowing in her conscious mind that any decent city should have had all the things she was seeing, but... God, it had been so long since she actually saw any of it firsthand that it was hard to believe.

The bookstores were first to catch her eye as she recognized them, some guilty inner part of her immediately wanting to go explore (... hey, it had been months since she last had access to any books but her poor ragged copy of Hamlet, and that thing's pages were on the verge of falling out), but of course there were faint whiffs of food everywhere to distract her other senses, and all sorts of bird people (some with a few vaguely reptilian traits, but almost zero recognizably Xeric) walking, happy with their lives, busy with work, with sightseeing, and running up and down the beaches.

"I... ah..." And then he had to ASK her about it all, which just pinned her with that antsy feeling of MUST CHOOSE BETWEEN HEAD AND STOMACH, not even withstanding the twinges of guilt asserting anything at all in the first place but, but, but...

"Well, there are... books, and... food, I guess... ah, are you hungry at all?..."

YES, THERE WAS A GOOD OUT... or at least, a decent tiebreaker for choosing between play and necessity (even if Kanda was almost never hungry, period).

Nope! It certainly hadn't been Yossarian's idea to go sit on the beach to enjoy some noms. Had been all Aster's! She'd been quite happy to sit down next to him, at least, watching him take the first few bites with a slight smile, before trying one of her own tacos. Nom nom nom.... Hmm! They were actually quite good!

Or at least, Aster thought so.

"That man certainly knew what he was doing with these. They're quite good!" she answered to Yossarian's inquiry to her opinion, before she resumed her om nom nom nomming. Delicious!!

Jade chuckled a bit. Certainly Hanna had a point about not drowning Kanda in color, putting the bright shirt away when Hanna produced a better one. Hmmm...

"Perhaps give the white to his cousin, hmm? Then they'd match." Oh god, the way he worded it made it sound as though they were dressing up twins. God, the idea of Hanna having any 'kids' to dress up of her own was somewhat brain breaking.

Then again, Jade was worse for that.

"He certainly could use a lot more color than just yellow. Perhaps a little bit of blue? Or a coral pink?"

HA HA. KANDA IN PINK. IT WOULD BE FUNNY.

Not that Kanda would have worn it ever. No amount of teasing would get that on him. Alas.

"We can look at books first. Then we can go look at our options for food. I'm sure there are plenty of places to eat at. I'd hate to pick something hastily." he decided, opening the door into the bookstore to hold open for Shae.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 08, 2010 4:07 pm

Of course she was going to sit down right next to him; she always did! Not that Yossarian really minded it or was the least bit surprised, just accommodating her with that 'free spot' and, once she'd dove into her food, taking another big, semi-crunchy bite of his. Dammit he didn't want to confess how good that tasted. It was probably just because he hadn't hunted and killed it himself, right?

"They're certainly palatable enough," he agreed as 'enthusiastically' as he could, which didn't say much, but for him, it was something. Really... sitting in the warm sand on a beach, eating (surprisingly) fresh food they'd actually just paid for and gotten handed to them on a proverbial silver platter.... life was pretty damn good, compared to what it had been.

"... It's still hard to believe we made it here at all," he commented a little more... philosophically? Wistfully? It was hard to tell, but he was staring off into the waves while he chewed on another bite, swallowed it, and sighed. "This place... feels like a completely different world from that arid hell."

But hey, not a bad thing, right?

"Oh, they would!" The thought of little twinkie cousin outfits seemed to delight Hanna to no end too, resolving that, yes, both the black and white outfits were completely necessary to have, and thus setting them over her shoulder with the blue. Her? With kids? Yeah... terrifying thought, to say the least, but surely that would never even be possible, right? "But you're right, I think both of them could stand more than just yellow, hmm..."

More rifling, more rifling still...

"I think blue always looks particularly nice with gray fur, doesn't it?" she nodded thoughtfully. "Or maybe they could do with some red trim? It's the color of love and passion, after all..."

Oooh yes, and black and red would totally look badass on the sword-slinging cousins! TOTALLY.

(... God and what of the girls, even? Of her? The horror just never ended.)

Well, then, it seemed that the tiebreaker between food and books had been made, and thus, Shae just mumbled a little note of agreement in turn, following up with a quiet thanks as, like a true gentleman, her companion opened the door for her. Really, this kind of treatment? Completely unnecessary, but... still nice, every so often. She wouldn't complain about it.

Sure, there were a few curious looks when the Koshka pair made their way in too but, by and large, the Occello didn't seem to care much outside of their initial 'checks' of the foreigners, and swiftly returned to their own matters of business. This left the little halfbreed free to tentatively start browsing shelves, which were all arranged conveniently by genre.

Just by the sheer volume and nature of the content, it was clear this culture took its literature very seriously. There were massive sections on science, on culture, on journals of exploration and theories of geniuses and just.. all kinds of stimulating fare she knew probably didn't EXIST back in Xeric territory.

... What a wonderland for a bookworm.

It was almost hilarious how fast Shae started rooting around shelves and even digging out volumes to flip open with that one good arm of hers, scanning pages fervently, digging, looking more, actually bordering on invigorated. It was about as excited as she'd been since... well, before Castellon, actually!

But hey, who could blame her? This was one of the few luxuries she really missed back home.

Well, if she -didn't- sit next to him, something was obviously wrong in her life, now wasn't it? Either way, watching him start WOLFING his food down was humorous in it's own way. He got amazingly hungry rather quickly as of late. Perhaps it was his muscles going EXC00Z ME. FOOD PLOZ.

Something like that.

"Well. I think if you think back to the very beginning of everything, everybody has come a really long way. It's been sort of nice to have a somewhat 'reliable' way of living this last little while. A little hectic, but we haven't had to actually seek out where our next meal would be coming from."

...
.....

Like a random fish-taco place. Which on that note, Aster had to take a few more bites of that first taco. MMMMMM, DELICIOUS.

Very very delicious.

"Though now we'll at least not have to scavenge for what we're cooking with!"

"And blood." Jade added, knowing fully well the cousins would likely associate it with such a thing. What? There was nothing that would make either boy randomly go off into a tangent about 'love' like Langston would have.

Langston would have been allll over that.

"Well, there are certainly a lot of options for the kids to get out of desert-ware in." he agreed, looking through the racks for some different styles.

It looked like the 'Tunic' cut was what they'd have to live with for the most part, but a few pairs of a nice khaki colored trouser wouldn't hurt anybody! Give them all something nice to wear.

Kanda wasn't as anxious to jump into the 'Hai, let's look at books' task, just browsing over them idly. Anything interesting? Oddly, nothing really seemed to him like they were going to be worth reading to him.

But hey! Shae was like a kid in a candy shop, so he could appreciate that.

... For the record, yes, it was all thanks to those atrophied muscles demanding fuel, because he desperately needed to rebuild them, dammit, and get his proper physique back in order! Not that Yossarian looked particularly scrawny or malnourished anymore, but... things still weren't back to their 'true' norm under that fur of his, nor would they probably be for a while yet.

But hey, the first step to recovery was good eating, right? And he was doing plenty of that!

"... Tell me about it," he mumbled after another good bite, having already finished off his first taco completely and discarding the paper, for now at least, under one of his boots. He'd throw it away when they stood up and left, but for now, that'd keep it from blowing away in the breeze. "I've suffered enough of the hunter gatherer lifestyle for a few years, at the very least."

Because while he was perfectly capable of surviving in the wilderness, he didn't necessarily WANT to give up creature comforts, either! Not when he didn't have to!

"Oh, yes, how could I forget?" Or perhaps Hanna hadn't forgotten at all; she just preferred the more positive and 'fluffy' associations of the color-- no doubt at a certain tabby duo's expense. Shrugging it off, though, it was back to more pile pilfering. Hmm, hmm...

In the smaller stacks, she found a few 'potentials' for Aster and Shae-- a particularly luxurious looking red-and-gold-trimmed outfit for the former, and the latter... well, some neutral cool gray, maybe some cobalt, aaand... ooh, there was a nice white with sky blue trim on it she thought was nice looking, but whether or not she could wrestle either female into it was guesswork, at best.

Now, though, she was in a slightly more selfish mood to find some new garments of her own-- but hmm... hmm... what color?

All of her old jackets were usually a nice (blood) red color too, but... hmm... that aside, maybe something different was in order, too?

Indeed, Shae was like a (much tamer) kid in a candy store when it came to all the shelves full of too many books, finally seeming to stop at a section of old past-century novels (... naturally) and start picking through them with more intense scrutiny. Sure, there weren't any copies of Shakespeare, but... no, there did seem to be some related old-english fare, and inevitably... well.

There were very few material things in life Shae valued, but books still qualified, and she wound up pulling not only some fictional novel, but something on abstract philosophy and, even more curiously, a compilation of old poetry, straining a little to hold all three with just one useful arm, but managing.

Though recalling just who it was that had their allowance and the fact that, yes, she did need to pay, the little halfbreed sobered a little, clearing her throat and glancing back at her partner almost guiltily.

"Ah... can we spare the expense of a few books w-without much trouble?..." Aw, well, at least she was being polite about it?

(And really, it wasn't often she got to be all excited for new reading material, right?)

Ha ha! Aster hadn't really had enough muscle for it to atrophy as badly as Yossarian's had, so it was hard to give him sympathetic treatments. Besides, he mostly just got cooing from him for being so damn attractive <3. Well, from her love-tinted-view of the world.

It wasn't long after Yossarian finished his first taco that Aster polished off hers as well, her belly rather content with the amount of food in it... not that she was going to put that second one to waste. Mmmmmm.

"Well, I'd like to think your lifestyle will at least be punctuated by my cooking for a while." she agreed, leaning against his side, albeit not so badly that everybody walking by would think they needed to go get a room.

Oh no, Aster didn't want to go- yeah. She liked being out and about on her 'date'. Well, as close to 'dating' as they could get with their lifestyle.

Well, it was what the boys would associate the color with! But while Hanna was dressing the kids, Jade was looking over the tunics for a little change in his -own- choice in colors.. like a nice deep green one, which had very little trim on it. Simple was good.

But after that, he'd just started picking up trousers in varying sizes. At least one pair for everybody in their lovely little group~? Certainly was! He had to make sure they were well cared for! That and they were probably sick of wearing Xeric-pants.

"The kids will certainly have clothing to their names after this little shopping expedition."

"We have plenty to spend. You could likely buy at least 20 more books before it started to hurt our allowance." Kanda answered Shae, offering to take the books out of her good arm to carry. He sort of had more arms to his use than she did.

Ha ha ha....

But with that, he had to go and make sure the books were paid for before they move on to a food hunt of some variety. There certainly were a lot of options around, even just on their stretch of road they were on currently. Hmmmm.
