The shaggy wolf shook her head slackly in response to Mars's mention of the sea. She couldn't really form a picture of it in her mind; the best she could get was a confusing notion of a back-and-forth river, which rolled about over an expanse of mud and then continued, forever, past the horizon. "I have to see an ocean," she mumbled, scowling into the middle distance for a few moments before watching Kamiya curiously for a few more. There was a wolf who had grown up by the sea, but probably not one who was interested in heading back to it.
But dang, the sky on fire? "Like hell it was! What was on fire, man, clouds? That's ridiculous." She had somehow hopped a little further into his personal space in the midst of her bullshit-calling, and was now standing just over the line of respectful distance between wolves. "I dunno, though, I guess I haven't traveled worth s**t, yet. Me and Kamiya," --she flashed an affectionate grin at her sulking companion-- "we met not all that long ago, she came up from like this seaside pack."

"Sky on fire," she snorted, clearly not buying a word of it. She did, however, smile fondly in memory of the ocean; she hadn't been as fond of it as some -- there were many wolves back home whose adoration of the ocean had been fanatical and perhaps a little creepy -- but it was nice to have something so...private...so exotic...that she could say she had experienced. Somehow, the realization that she, a wolf who had seen almost nothing of the world, could have experienced something rare and interesting, filled her with a certain smug pride.
"You certainly do need to see the ocean," she said, nodding to Marion. She glanced back to Mars, brow furrowed thoughtfully. "So," she asked, after a moment, beginning to grow a little curious despite herself. "Since you're the local expert in thrilling sights....what's the interesting thing to see around here?" She glanced around, taking in her surroundings.

"Hey, if you wanna be closed minded, that's up to you - I know what I saw" he said, with a smile and a wink. "I sure as hell don't know what was burning up there but it looked like the stars themselves were melting over the sky. It was pretty trippy!". Mars didn't really take offence to others not believing him - he had a pretty decent opinion of himself and, hell, sometimes he did see things that weren't there! The sky-fire, though, was something he had seen for sure - he knew, because Mercury had seen it, too, and Merc really didn't see things which weren't there. Ever. He was so dull...
Her coming into his 'personal space' wasn't something which much bothered him either - in fact, as a young male it really didn't bother him, but he refrained from making any comments about that sorta thing. He might be high, but he wasn't entirely stupid. Especially when she seemed to have a chaperone, he thought, as he eyed Kamiya. Both of them were really attractive young female wolves, but the brighter of the pair seemed a bit of a buzzkill.
"And yeah, if you've never been to the ocean y'need to see it sometime. Totally worth the trip. I saw fish there that came outta the water and sat on the rocks. They were, like, the size of us. I'd almost forgotten about that" he grinned, remembering the seals. He had nothing else to compare them to, except fish - with their long flippers and sleek forms.
"Around here? Uhm hmm. I dunno, I was just passing through, like I said, it seems pretty quiet. Dull, really. There are some weird looking rocks, a bit west of here, if that's somethin' that y'like - it's not really my thing. Merc liked them, though - he said he could see uhm... snails? or.. something in them? I dunno, I don't always pay attention to him." Mars blathered on, happy to chat.

Marion's face went into its conundrum-solving furious scowl again, as she tried to decide whether landgoing fish were possible. I want to go to the ocean, she thought rather feverishly, her bearish heart thumping in earnest. She half-listened to Mars describing their current location, but devoted most of her attention to plotting out the course of her adventure. Clearly, she needed to put some distance behind this boring old chunk of the forest, with its run-of-the-mill wildlife and, well, its rock formations. She turned her beady brown eye onto Mars, and thought for a second about how lucky he was to have been travelling his whole life; there was something weird about him, certainly, but it didn't stop her from wanting to climb inside his head and see what he'd seen. She snorted, slightly, and danced a bit on her paws, looking almost anxiously from Kamiya to Mars. "What's the fastest way to get out of these woods, anyway? I have a feeling I'm gonna be bored as hell until I get a change of scenery."

Kamiya grinned. "Those aren't fish," she said, feeling superior. "They're water-wolves. Ages ago, they offered their bodies to the Sea Goddess as a sacrifice to cure a plague that had fallen over their pack. To reward them for their loyalty, they were resurrected as the true children of the sea herself." She looked around, suddenly embarrassed, and looked at her paws. "At least that's what they said back home," she half-mumbled to the ground.
Clearing her throat, she looked up again, rising to her paws, eager to change the subject. "But that solves it, then. Let's get out of here. Somewhere interesting. I didn't break out of Kapu'Moana to look at rock formations." She snorted indignantly. "C'mon, adventure-wolf. What else have you got?"

"Water-wolves huh?" he had made his own conclusions on seeing the big beasts, but thinking on it, the idea of them being wolves of the water made more sense than them being land-going fish, especially since some of them, he was sure, had seemed to have fur.
"That's pretty cool... I wonder what it's like to swim around all day" he grinned. "Though, I guess wet fur isn't all that cool all the time" he was a little distracted by his ponderings until Kamiya's words snapped him out of it.
"Fastest way out and towards the sea, eh?" he pondered, putting their requests together. Whilst he did, he sat, lifted his bag leg and attempted to scratch an itch behind his ear, a comical look at the best of times, never mind when ones face had a thoughtful, serious look to it.
"Wellll y'can go straight west, but there's, like, some pretty harsh mountains that way. They're not that tall, but they can be hard to climb and the bare rock is pretty damn hot at this time of year, or you can head uhm... northish then west, and there's a path which goes between the mountains. I guess the mountain way is a tiny bit faster but it's pretty tiring going over all those ups and downs."
His face brightened as he had a thought "If you head by the pass, there's a really fricken huge waterfall coming off the side of one of the steep cliffs. Like, uhm, I dunno... Maybe thirty wolfs lying tail, to nosetip but up and down? there are so many rainbows coming off it, it's like walking through colours!". There weren't any of his favorite plants up there, he thought, they didn't seem to like growing so high up, but the effects of the dazling display had held him captivated on his last pass-through.

"Let's go there," she barked excitedly, leaping up and coursing around contemplative Mars for a few moments as she was overwhelmed by a desire to pick up and go, to make tracks toward somewhere better. Then, reining herself in, she lumbered swiftly over to Kamiya for an inquisitive sniff. "Can they talk, Kam? Do they have packs?" She waved her bushy tail and danced a little on her paws, seemingly only just short of bursting off in a hard run toward a place she didn't even know how to get to.

"Sure, why not," she said, deciding that sounded like a worthwhile place to head. Though she'd never admit it aloud, she kind of missed the water, and the idea of some falls brought her some comfort. Besides, seeing Marion scamper about like a pup was...well, kind of grating, actually, but perhaps charming in its own way as well.
She looked back at her companion. "They talk all the time, but it doesn't make much sense. Can't really make out much of it amongst all the babbling. They bark, you know, like dogs. Funny accents. Very weird, those sea-wolves, but I guess the Sea Mother knew what she was doing....if you believe the story, anyway."

Mars' eyes sparkled with enthusiasm as Marion's agreement came. The idea of heading off somewhere new appealed to him - it had started to get boring here, anyway, and it'd been a while since he'd been to the sea. Travelling with two companions who were both not on the bad side of good looking didn't hurt either.
From somewhere in the back of his mind, though, a niggling thread tried to catch his attention. There was something he should do... He stood quietly for a moment whilst the female wolves talked and tried to figure it out.
Oh, s**t, Mercury. Right. "Hey, girls, if we're headed that way I need to grab a hold of my brother... he's a quiet and a bit of a joy-kill at times, but I can't leave him behind. We always travel together an' stuff". Much as he didn't always get on well with Mercury, he did love him in a brotherly way - even if the drab-coloured male's personality fitted his coat and began to grate on Mars' love of freedom.

Marion stuck out her jaw in a kind of silent protest, not sold on the idea of being saddled with joy-kill siblings (she thought of her own, and scowled). But within a moment, she remembered that she'd never met this brother, and if nothing else he would at least be somebody new to meet? And she wouldn't necessarily have to treat him well, either, she thought, her tail frisking; who was to say she had to be nice? She turned her head and fixed Mars with her bear-brown eyes, looking about worked up enough to wrestle an elk down by her lonesome. "Let's get him."
((Sounds good to me!))
