This makes me want to do a marathon of my own. Sadly, I don't own all of the Hartnel and Davison episodes. =(
Maybe I'll just marathon the Tom Baker era. mrgreen

There are VHS tapes of all the episodes. You can get them for around $3 an episode (not sure how much that is in British currency) on Ebay. =D
I only have one DVD (that's the Sea Devils). But I have almost every episode on VHS.

You could always watch them through Dailymotion.com. That's what I do.
And I'm totally jumping on this train. In fact, I think I may start now. But I'm gonna jump to Five, I think. I feel a sudden urge to watch his run again.

 || I just watched: An Unearthly Child001/218 || A policeman walks through the fog, a mysterious police box hums in a junkyard, two school teachers follow their mysterious teenage pupil, meet a grumpy old man called the Doctor and all of their lives are changed forever...
The first episode is wonderful, mysterious and foggy, drawing you in and then grabbing you tight. The following three episodes aren't quite as good but are a really rather enjoyable story of cavemen seeking the secret of fire, the conflict between two rival cavemen providing most of the plot.
The Doctor is very different from the heroic character he later became, gaining his first companions by kidnapping them and barely registering an injured caveman as anything but an obstacle to his and Susan's escape. Ian and Barbara are wonderful, thrown into a life of adventure because they were curious, Barbara the more willing of the pair to believe what's happening, Ian needing to see evidence of the truth before he accepts it. For the first serial this was well done and serves as a good introduction to our travels with the Doctor and his companions.

Yay for marathon-y goodness. I've been quite tempted by the Sarah Jane audios from Big Finish for a while now, I'll be interested to know what you think. And I'm really looking forward to the new series of Sarah Jane Adventures, though I won't be watching it until I get to the right point in my marathon my brain would explode if I tried to watch anything out of order.
The Wedding Of Sarah Jane Smith made me cry. ;-;

Didn't even make me sad. I didn't like that guy very much from the start and then when the ring was glowing I was thinking "oh no! He's evil!" and then the more things progressed the more sure I was that he was a snake and she should get away from him. So when he died, I was really happy.

 || I just watched: The Daleks002/218 || The TARDIS lands on the radiation soaked planet Skaro, in a petrified jungle beside a metal city. An ancient conflict is about to be reawakened and the Doctor is about to meet the Daleks...
This is a significant story for Doctor Who, introducing the now iconic Daleks. It's hard to imagine not knowing them, to watch this when it first aired must have been amazing. Even now, not far off fifty years later, it is still a fantastic story and despite its seven episode length it never drags. The Daleks are creations of genius, unnerving with their insane xenophobia and emotionless voices, even these ones who grow vegetables. The Thals are also an interesting group, warriors turned pacifists, I like Ganatus.
The Doctor puts all of the TARDIS team in danger to appease his curiosity but is also starting to soften towards his new companions. They in turn are getting used to him and their new life, proving to be good, brave people. Susan shows her youth, delighted by a flower and frightened of the jungle, but also proves herself very capable. Things are shaping up very nicely.

I just watched Sarah Jane Adventures season 1. Really, the seasons are far too short!

 || I just watched: The Edge Of Destruction003/218 || The console explodes and the Doctor, Susan, Ian and Barbara are knocked out. Something is very wrong in the TARDIS and the Doctor thinks his new companions are behind it. But Susan suspects there may be something else in the ship...
This is one of only a handful of two episode stories from the original run of Doctor Who and for what it is it's very well done. Set entirely within the TARDIS and with only the four main characters it has a wonderful claustrophobic feeling and a mounting tension as the four start to become suspicious of each other and creepiness as odd things happen, memory loss causing Susan in particular to be very eerie. The melted clock is a bit abstract but is also an interesting visual and philisophical idea. Many people don't like the resolution but I'm actually quite the fan, I find it oddly perfect that something so small was having huge ramifications, it's so ridiculous yet mundane at the same time.
The Doctor spends a great deal of the story believing Ian and Barbara to be behind the problems, even threatening to cast them out of the ship, and at some points the crew is split into two distinct groups. But this story sees them become a proper team who trust and even like each other, the Doctor's sort of apology to Barbara at the end being the moment everything changed between them.

 || I just listened to: Marco Polo004/218 || The TARDIS arrives in the 13th century where the team met Marco Polo. But Polo wants to return home and intends to present his master Kublai Khan with a gift; the TARDIS...
This was my first time listening to the soundtrack of this story, having only ever seen a mini-recon before. I have to say it was magnificant, an epic tale of a journey across Central Asia with many twists and turns along the way, each character with their own motivations, goals and relationships. I especially enjoyed the lovely friendship between Susan and young bride-to-be Ping-Cho and the Doctor's rather amusing one with Khan.
Marco Polo is a great character, a good man who shows compassion and selflessness but is also stealing the TARDIS. The use of his journal entries was a nice touch. Tegana is a great villain, though it is clear he's up to no good from early on he hides it well from the other characters, laying suspicion against the time travellers with clever lies and half-truths while carrying out his own sabotage.
This is the first of the missing stories and is sadly gone completely, not so much as a clip remains. It really is a great shame, it must have been beautiful judging by the images we have. But even on audio it shines.

 || I just watched: The Keys Of Marinus005/218 || The TARDIS lands on a glass island surrounded by a sea of acid, home to a machine that can control the minds of the entire population. The five operating keys are scattered across the planet and its up to the new arrivals to find them...
I have a bit of a soft spot for this story, it isn't the best or the brightest or the cleverest but there is something very enjoyable about it. The story is broken up into several smaller adventures, keeping the pace brisk and exciting as the setting changes every episode or so. My favourite of these is that of the second episode, a place where everything at first appears lush and beautiful but is really dirty and ragged. The way the set changed depending on who's perspective we were seeing was very well done. The idea of an island of glass and a sea of acid is a beautiful one too.
The portion of the story that takes place on the mountain is quite dark for what was back then a children's show, the rather vile trapper attempting to kill Ian and Altos and have his way with Barbara. Sabetha and Altos are pleasant enough supporting characters though they don't get fleshed out too much and the Voord are quite a good alien menace with a good design though they aren't very good at disguising themselves. Overall this story is just a jolly good romp.

 || I just watched: The Aztecs006/218 || The TARDIS lands in fifteenth century Mexico and Barbara, mistaken for a reincarnation of the priest Yetaxa, decides to bring an end to the Aztec practice of human sacrifice...
This story is one of my favourites and deals for the first time with the idea of altering history. Barbara is wonderful in this story, becoming a stronger character as her knowledge and determination come to the front. The Doctor has a lovely relationship with the Aztec woman Cameca, finding himself engaged in a very humourous moment. He clearly enjoyed her company and it isn't hard to imagine that had he been travelling alone he might have stayed with her, at least for a time.
My favourite thing about this story is the two high priests who represent the two opposing sides of Aztec culture, horror and beauty, superstition and wisdom, Ttotoxl and Autloc. Ttotoxl is one of my favourite one-off characters from Doctor Who, rather frightening and very striking visually with his bold face makeup and feathery head-gear. I like that though he is the villain he is trying to protect everything he and his civilisation knows and believes, it is only by the standards of our culture that he is wrong and he is not the odd one out as Barbara would like to believe. This is a fantastic story that holds up remarkably well almost fifty years later.
