Okay this really has been bothering me and I've been trying to ignore it, but it keeps popping up in my head. So I have to voice my opinion again.
I doubt that those of you in this thread that are saying that Halloween is okay to celebrate and it's 'just another day', haven't really looked up the history of Halloween and what it means and still means to this day. Satan is deceiving you big time with thinking Halloween is 'just another pagan holiday', it's not how it use to be and that it's not bad to celebrate it.
Ocotber 31 is the most important day of the satanic year. It marks the Celtic new year, and is always at the end of the growing season, thus it became the "Festival of Death". Halloween used to be called 'Samhain' named after their god of the dead, and is STILL celebrated as an ancient pagan festival of the dead by witches all over the world. Sacrifices were made to the gods, especially to the god of death, Samhain. Sacrifices all the way from vegetables to humans were offered (yes, humans). Samhain is also one of the four high days of witchcraft/wicca.
On October 31, the Celtics had satanic priests called 'Druids' go from house to house demanding certain foods and all those who refused were cursed. The Druids carried large turnips which they had hallowed out and carved in demon faces as charms. Costumes were worn to hide the identity of the Druids as they would threaten people with curses if they did not comply with the food offering. During the middle ages the belief developed that witches would travel on broomsticks to the black sabbaths to worship Satan. The Druids worshiped cats believing them to be reincarnated evil people.
This festival of death has survived all of the efforts of the Church to stamp it out. The Church is joining the opposition by celebrating this festival. The devil has been very successful in invading Christian holidays like Christmas and Easter, providing counterfeits for the real thing. Halloween is different. It has always been satanic in nature. Satan has deluded the Christians into celebrating his festival. The devil isn't stupid. He knows very well we can be deceived if he can blind us to the truth. All Saints Day became All Hallows Day and came to be called in the western world All Hallows Eve, and then All Hallows Een. Finally, the word was reduced to the way we have it today, Halloween. That's where the name came from, and even if it is called All Hallows Evening it has nothing to do with the Christian faith and it never did! It never works to Christianize a pagan holiday. The holy and profane don't mix.
The bottom line is this: Halloween has been so deluded that many parents and people don't even realize all the symbolism there is in trick or treating, wearing of costumes, decorating with jack-o'-lanterns, and all the rest that goes with this evil holiday. October 31 is the night that Satanists and occultists the world around look forward to for giving the most honor to Satan and praying to him intensely for the fall of the Church of Jesus Christ and the destruction of families. It is the night of the human sacrifice to Satan. It is the biggest day in the life of a Satanist. It is not an innocent holiday!!
Look at the present day celebration of Halloween. Isn't the whole theme one of darkness, death, fear, threats, destruction and evil? There are witches, broomsticks, bats, owls, ghosts, skeletons, death, and monsters. We dress our children as demons, witches, ghouls, monsters and werewolves and send them out into the streets in the dark to reenact the Druids' practice of demanding food from people under the threat of tricks (or curses) if they don't comply.
We take not a turnip, but a pumpkin and carve demon faces in it and decorate with it. At Halloween there will be apple bobbing, divination, fortune telling, haunted houses, candles lit, and spirits called up. There will be seances and ouiji boards in the name of fun and excitement. There will be sacrifices of dogs, cats, rats, chickens, goats and even humans!
You say, "We don't take it seriously." But the devil does and so does God! Particularly this is true when the church which He purchased with His blood builds haunted houses in its fellowship halls so that the little lambs who have been entrusted to its care can be terrified and opened up to invading spirits of fear, torment, and confusion. HOW THIS MUST GRIEVE THE LORD!
And how is it okay to go to Haunted houses when God is NOT the God of fear? That's Satan, not God. Satan is the master of fear. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." - 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) Feelings of fear are not from God, but from Satan who is trying to destroy us. This shouldn't be confused with the "fear of God" which is a different type of fear. So why would you enter into a place that does exactly what Satan wants to do to us? To put fear into us. God does not want us to be in fear. All throughout the Bible it tells us to"fear not" from Old Testament to New Testament.
Halloween has never been a Christian holiday and it has no place in the life of a born again believer in Jesus Christ. In fact it is an abomination to God and we should take our stand firmly against it and all it entails. As we look into its history, we find that its roots go deep into heathenism, paganism, Satanism, and the occult; and the modern expression is no better!
We are commanded not to be involved with unfruitful works of darkness. "Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them." - Ephesians 5:11 (NIV) And "Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil."- 1 Thessalonians 5:21-22 (NVI)
We are also told that whatever we do we should do it to glorify God. "So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." - 1 Corinthians 10:31 (NIV) So how is participating in a pagan/satanic holiday like that glorifying God?
You may still say it's okay to participate in it because it's the day the Lord has made and we should rejoice in it and be glad, but it wasn't made for us to join in a holiday that was made to worship Satan. If you aren't convinced that participating in Halloween is okay for a Christian, you really haven't thought and prayed about it. If you ask God to show you His heart on the matter, He will.
Taken from : http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/halloween.html , "Instead of celebrating, what's a Christian to do on Satan's feast day? PRAY! Intercession and spiritual warfare should be the first item on our agenda. It is NOT a last resort!
* Join with other families in the church. Have the pastor announce a night of spiritual battle. Organize a group of Christians parents and students from your children's school or homeschool group. As a family, designate the seven nights before October 31 as Family Prayer Outreach nights.
* Pray for protection. Pray over both those who engage in prayer warfare and over those who will be out trick-or-treating or at Halloween parties. October 31 is a prime recruiting time for witches and Satanists…and a time for interested kids to experiment. Pray that the Lord keeps our kids from falling prey to those who worship the enemy.
* Pray for discernment. Let the Holy Spirit direct you to specific prayer requests. Pray that the children who are “out there” will somehow “know” to keep away from certain activities. I have relatives who, even though they were not Christians, “knew” that ouija boards and levitation games were dangerous.
* Pray that the Lord hinder the occult rituals. For four years, I lived in a building which over looked a cemetery where occult ceremonial markings were often found. ON certain occult feast days, usually between midnight and 3am, I would look down into the darkness and kneel at my window binding the demons that controlled the ceremonies. I'll never know this side of heaven what effect my prayers had. Maybe a potential sacrifice escaped. Maybe the occultists weren't successful in summoning their demon. Maybe a new, young recruit decided that this was not the lifestyle he thought he wanted.
* Pray for the salvation of the occultists. Jesus Christ died for those whom Satan holds captive and deceived, for those who mock Him, who deny His deity or His existence. He doesn't want them to perish, but to come to Him calling Him Father, Lord. Pray the veil is lifted from their eyes, the Lord allows them to see clearly their spiritual condition and their only hope lies in Jesus Christ. Pray also, about whether the Lord would have you take a more active role in bringing the gospel to Satan's servants. "

Pray also, about whether the Lord would have you take a more active role in bringing the gospel to Satan's servants. " i've researched it too. i used to believe like you and not celebrate it and thought i was, by default, no matter the intentions or beliefs that i held in my heart, participating in something satanic and giving honor to satan. i too believed that Oct. 31 was a day that belonged to satan and his followers. the thing is, we Christians, and many non-Christians, aren't participating in satanic sacrifices or even coming remotely close to celebrating on this day in the way that the devil worshippers do. Our battle as Christians is not of this world. Our battle has nothing to do w/ make-up, masks, vampire teeth, silky capes, pumpkins, candles, creeky floors..... Our battle is spiritual; It is not of flesh and blood. For the Christian, Oct. 31 does not belong to satan. Those who give honor to the devil and set aside worship and sacrifice to their "god" on that day have no power over us , their holyday has no power over anything we do on that day. Their sin is not transferred to us in any way. We are of 2 different families. Their family is dead, our family is alive. our God has won the battle over their god. Satan does not "win" when a Christian family carves a smile into a pumpkin, dresses up and walks around the neighborhood having candy dropped inside their pillow case. It is not a sin to have fun. People go through haunted houses to have fun and for the thrill of being surprised. there is no real terror, there is no true fear of being destroyed. You have every right to believe what you want to believe. If to you, Oct. 31 belongs to satan then I suggest you do all you can to make that day pass by quickly. The things suggested to do in your post as alternative are all good things, but we should be doing those things already, not just on 10/31. I have left off believing that way. I believe that we are not celebrating the same thing that the devil worshippers are celebrating by default. we are not taking part in their evil deeds by default just cos we don a clown nose and funny shoes. I will be enjoying much candy, carving a pumpkin, (and saving the seeds to roast - yum!) dressing my daughter up as .. i think she's going as Gumby this year, and drinking some hot apple cider.

hack mutation Ok. So halloween has a light and dark side. Oh, great now i don't know if its a good holiday or a bad one... sweatdrop . Hitoma and Sarlo u both have reasonable arguments with this sad . I dont judge Hitoma for how she feels towards Oct. 31 and the different ways Christians participate in the costume parties, dressing up, games, passing out candy. The thing i want to address is someone trying to convince me and others that we're ignorant about what we're doing and accusing/warning us that we're honoring satan and making our God displeased w/ us. Let Gods word speak to your heart on this matter. Romans 14:1-6KJVHim that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand. One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. Colossians 2:16KJVLet no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: Colossians 2:16NIVTherefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. Bottom line is, when we became a child of God, He freed us from sin. We're no longer in bondage to satan and the world. What we do can now be done w/ thanks to our Savior as long as it's not sinful. and btw... the pagan most high day of all is their birthday. do you celebrate your birthday? uh..ohhhhh. eek The idea "the pagans do/did it makes us wicked if we do it too" is utter nonsense. if a child of God chooses not to participate in the fall festival and celebration activities, that is their God given freedom to do so. But we're also free to participate in the fun without embracing and/or condoning and taking part in any satanic worship and beliefs. heart

Nah there is nothing wrong with celebrating Halloween. Nothing wrong with putting on costumes and getting free candy! lol I mean even dressing up scary to freak people out a bit is fun too.(to a point, demon or Satan costumes and things aren't good). But messing with Ouija boards or rituals, or TPing/egging peoples houses, ect ect.. yea now THAT is wrong. Halloween is a just a day so kids can dress up and be something different, whether it be their favorite hero or villain, or whatever; and get free candy and be able to spend time with friends and have a few laughs. "Halloween" is just the modern version of "All Hallows Eve", which is 'old' English for "All Holy Evening". A day for dressing up to scare the evil spirits away(which doesn't work.. but they thought it did). Is it true that evil is stronger on Halloween? I honestly can't say either way. It may or may not be, we just do not know. But all in all, there is nothing wrong with Halloween, just dress up and have fun(no matter how old you are lol )
