I sighed. "If I'm unlucky, she'll end up wanting to stay here for the rest of her freaking immortal life," I grumbled, and noticed a couple of guys staring at me too. I sighed again. "Um, not gonna happen," I said to myself, muttering, and walked to the nearest restaurant I could find.
"Can I help you, miss?" the waitress said.
"I'll have a, um..." I peered at the menu, and seated myself at the bar. "I'll just have a daiquiri. Strawberry, please." We had strawberries in Dumnonia, but perhaps this was a little bit like mead...I loved mead.
"Can I see your ID, please, Miss?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
I proudly showed her the sapphire ring on my finger that signified that I was the princess of Dumnonia. "Will that show as a good enough ID, madam?" I asked politely, but I really just wanted a drink.
"I'm sorry, ma'am, but we don't accept jewelry as ID," she informed me smugly. "Show me your wallet."
"What is a wallet?"
"I just had to get this shift," she muttered to herself. "You know, a wallet. It ought to be in one of your pockets."
I rolled my eyes. "Never mind. I'll just inform my father that your services aren't as good as they ought to be. I'll leave now." I walked out of the restaurant after hopping off of the barstool. I snapped my fingers and a glass of mead appeared in my hand. I curled my fingertips around it and swallowed a sip of it. I went over to Allison, who still had the boys gaping at her. "Have you blended enough now? It's almost nightfall, and we have yet to find accomodations for the night, or the next night, or the next..." I whispered in her ear. "Want a glass of mead? The services in this mall are terrible. I had to get my own because they kept asking for some ID. They wouldn't even accept my ring as identification! The nerve of them."

Allison waved good-bye to the boys and joined her sister. "MAybe you should spend less time talking among the royalty, and more time listening to fahter." Allison pulls out a small wallet from her purse, and shows a very nice, clean ID. "This is what she meant. It means we are a certain age. You have to be 21 years old to drink in this land." She paused. "They have some odd customs....." She walked toward the exit of the mall, pulling her sister behind her. "I already booked us a very nice room at a hotel a few miles from here. I was thinking we could take a cab... if you know what that is." She whistled, and a yellow cab pulls up to them. "Harrison Inn, please." She hands the man the correct amount of money, and leans back in her seat.

"I do listen to Father...mostly. You barely listen at all, you little rogue you!" I teased, slipping into the cab. "Why can't we get into the front seat? Is it policy or something? And why must we wait to be 21 to drink?" I sipped my mead. "We should have gone to Europe. Some part of my brain tells me that there is no drinking age limit over in Europe. Europe already seems to be growing on me. Let's do that. Yes, I like that idea."

Allison slapped her own head. "Please! you are starting to sound like.... ME!" She laughed. "I'm thinking Europe sounds better, too. More cute boys..." She drifted of, daydreaming.

"Earth is affecting me strangely," I replied, giving it as a retort to her claim that I was becoming like her. "Are there really more cute boys in Europe?" Hormones were starting to affect me, apparently. In Dumnonia, I'd always been the one who had defied suitors, who had fled from their embraces after one specific incident where I had been nearly raped, the one who didn't want a husband but would eventually have to have one...yet now, I wanted to flirt and kiss. What was wrong with me?
"We'll need passports," I stated out loud. "And we'll have to wait at least until tomorrow."

((Finally, she begins to speak in first person! I knew it would catch on!))
I walked into the hotel, waving Allison's ID (which I'd magicked out of her purse and into my hand) at the hotel manager, who waved us into our room with a grunt, handing me the key. I stepped anxiously into the elevator. Being in such an enclosed space...I hadn't always been claustrophobic but after the incident--where I'd nearly been sexually assaulted by a vicious suitor--I now felt a deep fear or being closed in.
"I don't like these things...elevators."

I sigh, "I do. They are so much easier than teleporting." I smile. "Anyways, give me my I.D back." It poofs innto my hand. "Thank you."

"How is this easier than teleporting?" I demanded. "I feel like I can't breathe. God, I hope these rooms have balconies. I didn't pay attention to the structure--did you get us a nice hotel or a crappy one?"

"Well, on the account of you were trying to buy a beer with a RING, I did the best I could on my own.." She sighs. "But there is a balcony. And a hot tub... but thats mine." Allison snaps her fingers, and appears in there room. She hops right into the hot tub and turns on the bubble-things. (XD)

((YOU FAIL AT LIFE!! Haha any idea where that came from?))
"I am not used to Earthling customs!" I snapped back, after tentatively stepping out of the Earth-box (elevator). "And you can have the hot tub...for now. We'll be gone in the morning, off to Europe. We can get a place with two hot tubs there, and then we'll both be happy. Joy to the world, the Lord has...ugh, I forget the rest." I knew none of these strange songs. Where were the songs praising the gods? The spirits? Had religion really fallen so drastically far behind? I sighed. "I'm tired. I'm going to go out to the balcony and I'm going to read." I pulled a copy of Wicked by Gregory Maguire out of my purse. I had seen a poster for the musical and I wished to read the book, though I had no idea what it was about. I sat out on the balcony while Allison soaked in her tub.
"So far...I hate America," I muttered. "Drinking age limits, IDs, and hotels where NOBODY SLEEPS!" I shrieked at a woman who was yelling at her cat on her own balcony. She gave me a nasty look and retreated into her own room, leaving me alone outside.
Alas, finally. Peace.
An owl hooted, a cat screeched, a car swerved and honked on the brakes in the background.
Well, peaceful enough.
I opened to the first page.

Allison sighed, snapped her fingers, and earplugs appeared in her ears. She layed down, enjoying the silence.

Classical music from the acclaimed musical Phantom of the Opera played in my ears while I listened to an iPod I'd magicked up. As it ended with a dramatic high note, it began to play "Popular" from the play Wicked. I was on page seventy-eight now--I was a faster reader than mortals--and things were certainly interesting for Elphaba. I could sense scandals--love scandals--were on their way...already I was suspicious of Fiyero.
I would have to watch the musical.
All of a sudden, unbidden, a vision came to me. I received visions sometimes--it was a part of my gift. This one had me horrorstruck.
Mother and Father were kissing lovingly. I had hardly ever seen Mother. She had died just two years after Allison was born because of a plague that had struck Dumnonia...she was the only one in the court to fall ill and die... It appeared that this had occurred just as that had happened, for she lay in her bed, ill and dying. She smiled up at him, though, and though her pale face was lifeless, it was filled with grim determination: the set of her mouth in pursed lips, her steely eyes...she would not allow herself to die. I could tell.
With a final kiss, he left her to sleep.
A moment later, still smiling, she died.
I heard the door creak open, and a servant checked on her. She ran out after seeing that Mother wasn't breathing. A moment later, I heard the sobs of a king. And the cries of his daughters. I was weeping, but it was not I who was screaming. It was either Allison or some servant. I couldn't remember.
I ran out of the balcony, forgetting the iPod and forgetting the Wicked copy. I pulled the earplugs from Allison's ears. "Allison! I had a vision. About Mother."

"It was her, Allison, it was really her!" I shouted. "She was in bed..." I said more quietly. "Just lying there. She died in the vision." My eyes welled up with tears. "D**n these tears, they burn like fire," I quoted Elphaba from Wicked. But I wasn't quoting just to quote. I meant it.
