She was a fortune teller? It seemed a lot less impressive than what he'd been expecting but if she could see the future she could still be useful right? she could look for opportunities that could be manipulated until the outcome was good for him. Seeing the past was an utterly useless skill. It had already happened, what good would seeing it happen again do?
"I think you are downplaying your abilities my dear." He offered with a smile. "Seeing into the future is a wonderful skill to have indeed. Now, why don't you tell me how it works? I'm very...curious you see?" Kittens and butterflies, sugar and fluff. He just had to keep being nice to get what he wanted. People scarcely reacted well too ill-mannered and pushy louts or those so stubbornly set in their ways that they refused to admit they were wrong. He was that kind of person really. Constantly reminding himself to act opposite was quite a chore indeed.

She smiled faintly at his interest. "Honestly, I'm not all that certain how it works. I'm still learning. From what I've gathered, though, I can catch glimpses of what might happen if nothing in the present changes. If even one choice changes, though, the future changes with it. Sometimes it's a big difference, sometimes a little. Sometimes no difference at all. I don't have much control over what I see or when, yet. As I said, I'm still learning."
Lian suddenly felt like kicking herself. Why did she keep saying that? He was clearly an intelligent Soquili. He didn't need her to constantly repeat the same thing over and over. Maybe she was simply nervous. She didn't often speak of her gift, because it didn't often come up in conversation.

Farren tried to keep his fool's smile on his face but he found that the more she spoke the harder that was. She was still learning? She was still learning how to use it and even then, as she had said, nothing was certain about what she had seen. All in all he would have to say that he was quickly beginning to agree with her initial statement about them. It didn't seem that her skills were of any use at all. They couldn't be controlled.
"And you are a fast learner?" He asked his eyebrows arching skyward sceptically. A bit of his true nature was beginning to slip through his false face and he did not care to cover it up. "So one could predict that in little time you would claim mastery over these skills?" This was the deal breaker. Either she could or she could not and if she could not then she was simply wasting his time.

She could see something.... else... peeking through his friendly demeanor, and it put her on guard, though perhaps not as on guard as she should have been. She chose her words carefully, not wanting to lead him on, while also not wanting to walk into some verbal trap or another.
"I honestly don't know. It could be that I've already mastered the talent as best as it can be. Without meeting another who has the same talent, I'm really just feeling my way in the dark."

It took Farren all of two seconds to weigh the odds of her ever finding another with the same so called talents that she possessed. Zero. No angeni would could have the same powers as another and a regular breed wouldn't be able to hold the same amount of skill and certainly not higher. There's would all be guess work, throwing bones and making baseless predictions. Nonsense stuff.
He snorted at the realization that all of this had been a giant waste of time.
"My dear, I'm afraid groping around blindly in the shadows is not the way I do things." He started a cold sneer appearing over his features. "If what you have is mastery than I do weep for any creature that comes to you seeking aide or guidance."

She took a half step back, startled by this sudden shift in personality. The Angeni managed not to flinch at his tone, and tried to remind herself that he had a right to his opinion. Even if he chose to give it to her in such a sharp manner.
"I'm the first to admit I don't have the best control."

"And I am quite certain you won't be the last." His words were very much like a skinwalkers claws. They would tear their targets apart piece by piece until they were either dead or smart enough to run away. "I should have never bothered speaking to you in the first place. I mean really now what sort of real angel would be caught dead with no purpose?" He was quite certain that there were probably angeni out there that wandered with amazing powers. The reality of things hardly mattered at the moment though. He just wanted the mare to leave.
"And with such an utterly stupid and hopeless look I should have none right from the start that you were nothing special. You're just a waste of breath that occupies far too much space for it's own good." He tossed his head arrogantly before taking in a deep breath to ease himself off of his pedestal. "If I were you," he started nothing but serious, "I would tear off my wings and take a dive off a cliff to do the world a favor."

"Th....that's a terrible thing to say to someone you don't know!" she was shaking with the effort not to let him see just how hurt his words had made her. She couldn't help but wonder if he was right, and she was a failure as an Angeni. How would she know? She had never met another of her own kind. She only barely knew WHAT she was. Was she some kind of defective freak? Was the world better off without her in it? Was she just wasting the time of everyone she had met? So far she and her useless gift had done nothing helpful. In fact, she thought of the stallion she had met in the swamp, once. She'd actually caused more harm than good.

Farren snorted. "And that is a pathetic attempt to defend yourself. You're far more hopeless than I thought." He didn't care that she thought it was terrible. Really it was supposed to be horrible and cruel. It was meant to make her leave but she seemed to be clinging to some delusion that he might stop stabbing knives into her sides and be nice again. That or she was just stunned. Really Farren didn't know why she was still standing there like an icicle.
"Why are you still here, my dear?" He cooed mockingly. "There are some nice cliffs off that way that are just dying to meet you."

She gaped at him, not certain what it was she had done that had turned him into such a vile creature. She took a step back and opened her mouth to ask just that, when her uncle's lessons kicked in and she snapped her mouth shut. What did it matter what she had done? The fact remained that he was clearly upset with her. And really... why shouldn't he be? He was right. She WAS useless.
Fighting back the urge to cry, she wouldn't give him that satisfaction, she took another step back and flared her wings. If he really didn't want her around, she wasn't going to force her presence on him any longer.

Farren watched her move with merciless eyes. Her wings were open but she was still standing there. "If you're going to leave you best be doing it quickly. I've grown very tired of looking at you." He'd also grown quite sick of the rather one-sided conversation even if it was really just a string of insults thrown together. "If you are looking for me to assist in the removal of your wings, however, you are out of luck. I've heard a few rumors of kalona not far from here that would be happy to help already." Everything from his words to his tone to his facial expression were saying one thing: 'leave.'

She flinched and, feeling like a monster for forcing her presence on him any further, she took to the air. His insults swirled through her mind, taking root and cutting deep.
Why had she never considered just how useless she was? She had done no good to anyone since she began traveling. Had she been fooling herself into thinking she was making friends? Had those who seemed nice actually been waiting for her to leave just so they could be rid of her?
With tears stinging her eyes, and fresh doubts in her mind, she left Farren behind to the solitude he seemed to desire.
