Shelby looked up and gasped. "You..` Hi.." She said, regaining composure as she pulled out a dollar. "Thanks." She said.

"Shouldn't you be in school, kid?" Ailbhe asked, handing Shelby her Latte and taking the dollar. "You want the receipt?"

"Nah, I got it."' She said. "I was late, figured what the heck." She said, shrugging.

"Lucky you," she said. "Are you a senior, then?" Ailbhe asked. She looked to be about the same age as her, ans since she was still in school....she was either a junior or a senior. Unless she had gotten held back, which was always a possibility.

"Senior." Shelby said, sipping the coffee. She laughed nervously. "But if I keep playing hooky, it's gonna be that way next year..."

"I skipped fourth hour all the time, I passed well enough. The again I had study hall that hour..." Ailbhe said, crossing her arms, trying to remember that year. "They wanted me out of that school asap anyways. That's probably why they never suspended me."
Ailbhe's boss walked out of his office, stretching, and told her to quit being nostalgic about highschool when she'd only been out for a few months. "You're the same age as me, you dunce!" Ailbhe said to her boss. He had inherited the cafe from his parents, and hired her because he was one of the few people who knew her position. "Anyways, Shelby, don't be like me and end up a failure. Got it?"

Shelby nodded, smiling faintly. "You don't seem that bad. Anyway, thanks!" She said, walking towards the door. She kind of liked talking to Ailbhe, but wanted to keep her distance- if the superstition was true, she didn't want to die, not before she was out of school.

"See yah," Ailbhe said, waving. Her boss was leaning on the counter she'd just sanitized. Her eye twitched as she shot him a glare. She was beginning to think he did things just to piss her off. "I'm surprised I'm not getting any weird clone comments out of you," she said. "You feeling alright?" He nodded and walked away, and she sighed, because she was here until five, and he'd be hiding in his office the rest of the day.Whatever pays the bills, I suppose.

Shelby walked out of the cafe, smiling a bit as she walked towards her houde. She stopped. Her parents would go nuts if they saw her. She went the other way, singing to herself under her breath.

After the eight o'clock rush was over, business was dead. Ailbhe looked at the clock. It was almost two now, ready for the afternoon rush.And then it'd be dead again, so she'd clean up and her boss would let her go home at three forty-five. That's how it was almost everyday, unless they had some big event going on.Then she stayed until seven cleaning up and got overtime. Which made her very happy, at the end of the day. Ailbhe sighed as the first of the rush walked in, and then followed the rest.

Shelby returned home when the school day was supposed to end. She walked hoome slowly, then sped up, remembering her guitar practice session. She ran home, pulled out her guitar and ran to the shop, only a minute late. Why she didn't have a car, she didn't know..

Ailbhe sighed, finally done with work. "Time to go home and-----" she stopped, seeing Shelby go into a building down the street with something like a guitar in her hands. Her mind flickered back to when she was in fourth grade and played guitar and cello. She kind of missed those days. Before her mother died. More than that, she missed the days before her mother had married that wretched man. She shook off the thoughts and kept walking.

The man glowered at her, but got only a grin in reply. He shook his head. "Let's get started." He said, giving her a sheet of chord progressions that she played for about 15 minutes.

Ailbhe sighed, dropping her bag on the floor as she collapsed onto her bed-----which was actually just a couple old mattresses on the floor----hoping to god that she wasn't going to suddenly catch her death now.

After an hour, Shelby walked home, not looking at her parents as she laid on the couch. 'I still need to finish that music theory homework...' She thought, getting back up.
