Ictome That being said, I have been told that Hodoo is a word that is sort of a series of belifes about the concept of entraptment, whereas Vodoo is more about healing and the superstitions about it. I would love to hear and remember some Vodoo chants... The person who told you that about Hoodoo and Vodou didn't really know what they were talking about. Hoodoo is a form of eclectic folk magic. There is a large body of common lore to it- and then people add things to it as they see fit. Vodou is the religion that came about because African slaves were forced into Catholicism by their owners. It fuses African religions from different regions, Catholicism and other things.

I'm running out of ideas on things to talk about. Because I'm a Wiccan Seeker- I tend to make analogies that involve Wicca. One of the big differences between Wicca and Vodou is that in Vodou- you don't have to be initiated to be part of the religion. Sevitye is someone who is part of it- initiated or not.

So the last couple weeks have been really busy- we have two new statues in the house. One of Mater Dolorosa and one of Our Lady of Czestochowa, which represent Ezurlie Freda and Ezurlie Dantor.
We have little shrines in appropriate places and this weekend's project is going to be making items for Papa Legba and Baron Samedi.
Mr Big c**k is getting a bone skull bead turned into an icon and Papa is getting a decorated key as a walking stick and his traditional clay and cowrie shell head. 3nodding Our house is so LGBT friendly even the Loa who like this stuff want to chill here. heart

Do you have any specific resources for someone who was interested in learning more? I ran into someone who was asking about it, but had absolutely no idea where to direct them.

Mostly people- but I can poke around and see what they think about books. Vodou is a lot like Wicca if Wiccans counted their Outer Court as Wiccan too instead of it just being the Priesthood.

So are Vodou entities known to show an interest in non-Vodou practitioners?
I've been attending a lot of the Vodou rituals performed by the open circle I hang out with, mostly because I can be counted on to keep a level head and catch releases horses on their way to the ground. I see myself as primarily an observer. However, one of the spirits (correct terms appreciated) has been showing an interest in me lately and I'm not sure what to do with that.

Loa or Lwa would be the right term- and yeh, they show interest in other people. cat_3nodding

It's Shango (Chango, Xango...) and I think technically he's an Orisha but he's a regular at these folks rituals and his wikipedia page says he's also venerated in Haitian Vodou. Does that sound right?
