A small voice reached his ear, but he didn't pay heed to it, as he was absorbed into the scenery before it. He then realized it was Raine thanking him, and he whipped his head towards her, embarrassed for having ignored her.
''I-It's no problem. It's thanks to you too.. if you didn't venture farther into the cave, we would of never found this place...''
He turned his attention back to the icy cave, still admiring its beauty. He heard Raine speak again, and turned towards her. He raised an eyebrow, pondering her question. He turned back to the scene before him, and noticed a small path winding down like a slide. An idea came to him, and her turned back to Raine, shaking his head.
''No, I don't think that's necessary. Besides, it'd take too long. But I have another idea...''
Turning back towards his familiar, he nodded, and seeming to understand, the butterfly came towards him, circling around his head.
He slowly began to lift off the ground again, and when he reached the ceiling, began to quickly snap off the icicles hanging above, carrying them carefully with his tail wrapped around them. When he collected a decent amount, he slowly floated down, carrying a bundle of icicles in his paws and mouth also.
When he touched the ground, he carefully placed them down.
''Instead of building stairs, I was thinking we could just jab these into the ice and use them as climbing pegs. It'd be a lot faster, and we could always slide back down!''
He patted on an icicle, proving its sturdiness.
And since this place looks like it hasn't been discovered for a long time, these icicles were probably given a lot of time to harden, so they should be fine and won't break when we use them.
He grabbed a bundle with his tail, and raced over to the ice slide, his familiar following him worriedly.
''Last one down's a rotten egg!''
He laughed, and slid down, leaving the remaining bundle of icicles for Raine to carry.

Raine watched as Kori slid down. It was fast. As soon as he reached the bottom, there was an explosion of snow into the air. She yelled, "LOOK OUT BELOW!" and slid icicles down the slide into the powder snow, where Kori stacked them at a side.
She then hopped on the slide and screamed, "GERONIMO!!!" as she slid down like a bullet. She slid down on her belly, plunging headfirst into the snow. It was exhilarating! With the look of sheer joy she tumbled onto the powder snow at the bottom, in a fit of laughter, surrounded by another explosion of snow. "We are definitely going down that slide again!", she giggled.
They jumped out of the snow and headed to the waterfall. Everything looked so much bigger from down there, it looked so small from the cave opening. That made the waterfall MASSIVE. The water crashed into the plunge pool from a cave overhead, a sound that project the magnificence of the natural feature. The waterfall sparkled and the mist at the bottom diffused the sunlight into rainbows! "A double rainbow!", Raine giggled.
"Have a look Kori!"
She pointed to the waterfall cascading down into a pool. The pool was also, big to say the least. It was the size of a house! The water was crystal clear. The bottom of the pool seemed to increase in depth from where they stood to the plunge pool. But where they were, the pool was about half a foot deep. Light danced on the surface of the water and there were no fish in sight. She dipped her paw into the water, surprisingly warmer than expected, but still cold. "Brrrr...", flicking the water away.
She watched the ripples spread out to the banks of the pool and disappear. In her mind she thought of splashing through the crystal water and... and... a cave behind the fall. A shiver of excitement ran through her body.

((LOL Lura, what exactly are we exploring? This thing is HUGE. xDD))
As soon as he reached the bottom, he laughed, and propped the icicles he carried off to a side, he turned back towards the slide, only to get a face full of snow.
Coughing, he brushed the snow flurry away, and noticed that Raine had slid the icicles down instead of carrying them.
Now why didn't I think of that?
He heard a shout, and looked up as Raine slid down on her belly, accelerating at an alarming speed. Worried that she may hurt herself, Kori quickly made a bundle of snow near the slide exit, and got a face full of snow as she hit the fluffy pile.
Spluttering, he wiped his face again only to see Raine giggling, commenting on how she wanted to do it again. He sighed and told her to be more careful, starting to understand why his familiar was so anxious all the time.
His worry soon dissipated, as he noticed how much closer they were to the magnificent paradise. Ice shimmered and glittered, and even... a waterfall? It was something Kori had never seen before. He never knew a place that was cold enough to have ice stiff enough to stay put, yet warm enough to allow flowing water. The whole thing was so perplexing.
Hearing Raine's voice, he turned where she pointed, and noticed the double rainbow. His eyes widened, as he never saw such a thing before, and began to look around with the same curiosity and excitement Raine had.
He too, dipped a paw in the water, and felt a mix of icy-warm feeling tingle his paw. He pulled it out and shook it, then turned his attention back towards a waterfall.
Not sure if his eyes were playing tricks on him, he squinted, and noticed a small opening behind the cascade of water. Kori exhaled, coating the air with small ice crystals. Just how big was this place?

Raine ran to the other side of the pool and true enough, there it was. A yawning cave. She walked into the cold cave with the sound of the crashing waterfall behind her. She was greeted by colours.
So many different colours! There were reds, blues, yellows, greens, purples, so many of different hues in crystals. The yellow ones were brilliant like solid sunlight and the blues were a rich sapphire colour. The reds ranged from pink to bloodred, the greens were like a sunny field. Everything was so shining! Raine picked a few up from the floor and realised they were singular grown crystals. They were absolutely beautiful raw. If they were cut they would look even better. "Kori, with these crystals, we could make a fortune! and we still wouldn't have used these all up."
But then she blinked, remembering the beauty of all the nature and how long it must have taken for those to grow. She took a single purple crystal and kept it in her paws, deciding to keep that just 1 as a keepsake. She could never sell these crystals. They were too precious and this entire world down here was her and Kori's secret. She never wanted to betray that. If people found out about this place, everyone would want a piece of it and the beauty would be destroyed. "Kori, promise me you will never tell anyone of this place."

Kori followed Raine into the preceding cave, immediately blinded by multiple rays of light.
After several minutes of blinking and shielding his eyes, he noticed that they were in a room different than the rest of the cave. His eyes widened as he noticed the room seem to brilliantly shine, lit aglow from crystals refracting the light pouring in from above.
He walked over to one, and rubbed his paw on it. It was pretty rough, but such was expected from such raw crystals. Kori had never seen any so large though, and wondered exactly how long this place had been around for.
He looked over at Raine, who seemed to be absolutely admiring everything. A lips curled up into a smile, until he heard her comment. He frowned immediately, and looked back at the crystals, seeming to shine and shimmer non-stop.
It was true that even one of these crystals would be much coveted, but the idea of using the crystals for such a selfish reason... Kori couldn't bring himself to do it. He loved nature and everything about it, ESPECIALLY the snowy season, but he often saw that joy lost among others as they fretted about petty things, consumed by time and greed, ignoring the beautiful present Mother Nature gave them for free.
He turned back to look at Raine, as she cradled a single crystal in her paws. She seemed to be contemplating something, and saw her turn towards him, eyes pleading. That was all he needed to know. Even before she opened her mouth to ask him, he nodded, already knowing what she would say.
''Of course. It would be disastrous if others found out about this place.''
He turned and headed back towards the entrance of the cave, prepared to leave. He sighed, and hoped it wouldn't come to this, but it would be best for the cave and themselves.
''Come on Raine, let's get out before we have second thoughts. And it'd probably be best if we seal off the entrance, just in case anyone else does find it.''
He sighed. Or if they felt tempted to go back. He shook his head. It was too risky. They had to go.

Raine really loved the crystal cave very much. It was really a beauty to admire and appreciate. But, Kori suggested to seal it off. "Kori, what if we just vow never to tell anyone about this cave, or the entire cavern? This cave is huge, we can't seal it off without maybe taking down a ledge or two's worth of rock. Or taking down a lot of ice. This place has to be respected, something we shouldn't change. We should keep it as it is, but it is up to us whether we are able to keep that promise and bar ourselves from greed.
"We mustn't drastically change anything in this cave or the cavern. And we should prevent anyone else from changing it. Can you promise me that?"

Kori looked back at her with a sad look in his eyes. Of course it seemed drastic, but he felt it would be best. But there was still some truth in Raine's words. His plan to protect the cave might actually cause it more harm, as it really would take quite a bit of snow and ice, but even if he and Raine did keep their words and weren't tempted to come back for selfish reasons, he couldn't guarantee that this place was impossible to find.
He turned back to look back out at the cascading waters, and the ice reflecting the water and light. He only prayed that Mother Nature would keep such a treasure safe.
He turned back to Raine.
"You know that'd never do anything to harm this place, Raine. It's the latter part I can't guarantee..."
How were they supposed to protect such a large cave? Sadness consumed him again and he sighed wearily, his enthusiasm lost on the present issue at hand.
"Come on Raine, let's go...

Raine really was devastated. There was so much left to do! She imagined climbing through the honeycomb structure playing tag, what an adventure that would be! She imagined frolicking in the plain, making snowmen and snow angels. Then as night fell she could lie on her back and admire the night sky... with him.
It was all being taken away from her but she knew it was right. It really was the right thing to do. She looked down at the purple crystal she was cradling and felt her stomach sinking. She had to leave everything behind. She struggled as she put down the purple crystal, struggling against herself. She knew Kori would never let her keep it, it had to stay where it belonged. She glanced up at Kori and took a deep breath. She walked up to Kori at the cave entrance and turned back to admire the crystal cave. She sighed as she rested her head on his shoulder, not wanting to feel alone in such a emotional and vulnerable state. They may have been in the cavern for only a short while but she would miss it so much...

He flinched slightly at her touch, and sighed heavily. He felt guilty for making Raine feel terrible. This was all his fault. If only he hadn't broke the ice, if only he stopped her from venturing farther in, if only...
He stopped himself. He realized he would end up blaming Raine for this, and it wasn't her fault. He began to wonder if he was doing the right thing...
He nuzzled Raine's foehead gently with his nose, murmuring softly.
"I'm sorry Raine... I didn't mean to hurt you..."
Looking over at the crystal she had in her paw and left behind, he bit his lip, trying to decide what to do. He would hate himself if he went back on his word, but he didn't want Raine to look so depressed.
Finally making up his mind, he nudged Raine gently so she would lift her head, and walked over to the crystal, making it up gently with his tail.
He walked back over to Raine, and lifted the jewel towards her, smiling sheepishly.
"I guess it's alright if you just keep this one piece... as a memory of this place? Just don't tell anyone where you got it..."
He looked away, pawing the ground nervously.
"A-And, maybe we can stay a bit longer, I guess... "

He nuzzled her, it felt so wonderful. Good chills ran down her back as he comforted her. She didn't want that moment to end, ever. He started aplogising, something Raine thought he was just being silly for. Then, he offered her a crystal to keep.
Raine didn't want to make him compromise for her. She gave him a very grateful smile and she was touched by how kind and caring he was. Her eyes softened and she just couldn't stop smiling. "Kori, thank you, but no thank you. What is most important here is the experience and time I had to spend with you. Without you, I wouldn't be here. The opportunity to have seen this marvelous place would not have been possible without you and any memories I keep is more precious than a crystal."
Raine teared as she hugged Kori, taking the crystal from him and putting it aside. "You are all I need to remember of this place," she whispered in his ear.
She squeezed him one last time before pulling away. Raine wiped away her tears and looked Kori straight in his eyes. "Lets go Kori. We don't need to be down here any more. Unfortunately, we need to start building that ice staircase to get out," she frowned.

Kori tensed up as Raine wrapped her paws around him, feeling heat rush into his face.
"I-I-I.."
He felt her whisper into his ear, her soft, delicate voice, warm, filled with gratitude and-
He felt dizzy and light-headed, a shiver up his spine. He never felt this way before, and started to wonder if he was getting sick. Why did being around Raine make him feel this way?
Feeling her slowly pull away, he almost whined, not wanting the feeling to end, but knew he was being selfish... and was probably receiving awkward stares from his familiar.
His brain shut off temporarily as Raine mouthed words to him, seeming to beckon him towards another warm embrace. A sappy grin appeared on his face, until he heard the words "building" and "staircase".
Embarrassed, he quickly shook his head, removing it of his previous thoughts.
"I-er-uh-right, we should get on that pronto.."

Raine looked at Kori, he seemed so torn. She assumed it was from leaving the place as well, or maybe seeing her so sad. She tried to put on a brave face and stuck close to Kori as they left the cave. She felt comforted by his touch, so warm.
Warm fuzzy feeling started to fill her, clouding her mind so before long, they already reached the base of the opening. She glanced up apprehensively, not wanting to leave this cavern... And it wasn't because of the beauty.
She turned to look at Kori, not wanting to leave him. "... Kori, when we get back up, will I see you again? I... I... um-"
Heat rushed to her face and she pawed the ground... At an entire loss of words.

He looked at her curiously, wondering what caused her to be at a loss of words. She didn't seem like the type to be flustered so easily.
"Of course! I really want to see you again!"
Realizing what he just said, he clamped a paw over his mouth, throughly embarrassed. Had.. had that been too enthusiastic? His familiar only laughed at the two, making soft high-pitched squeaks as it watched the two befuddled wishes.
Squeezing his eyes shut to forget about the embarrassing moment, he shook his head and looked up at the giant... ice slide before them. Oh WHY did he say they could just build their way back up?
Heaving a sigh, he walked over to the pile of icicles and scooped some up with his tail. He walked back over to Raine and handed her one, grinning apologetically.
"Guess we better get started, huh."

"Um, yeah."
Raine's face was burning. Actually it wasn't just her face, but her whole body felt hot and her paws felt slick. Her heart was beating double time and she was biting her lip. She took the icicle and started stabbing it into the wall to build the staircase.
Soon, they built as high as they could reach and it was then they had to start balancing on the icicles and build on their way up. This required a lot of balancing, especially since they had to carry the pile up with them too. Raine worked at it and tried to relieve a bit of that adrenaline that was pumping through her veins.
Balancing on the icicle with her hind paws, she turned started working the next step, pounding the icicle in with a small hand held block as Kori passed her icicles from behind.
Halfway up, Raine was feeling exhausted. "Kori, can we take a small break? This is tiring work."
Raine the turned around and sat on the icicle she stood on, using the step above her to prevent her from falling back. The icicles they used were quite long, just enough to sit on. Next to her yawned a 3 storey fall which started making her feel a bit nervous being so high up with no railings.
She decided to concentrate on Kori instead, he made her feel safe simply by looking at him. Her stomach fluttered as she observed Kori again, something she had done a lot that day. She like the was he made her feel, how he acted around her and the way he talked. He was not just about her closest friend and she loved being with him. It was like going home. She turned away to face the ice wall and a small smile spread across her face as she remembered how he saved her earlier that day.
