"Yes." she gasped in pain and sent her other arm at the shield. She punched it as hard as she could and did not move her hand this time. The burning was growing stronger each second. She closed her eyes. "I must not give up even though I am very weak against ice. More so than others with my ability. The cost of my power...." She gritted her teeth.

Seeing her in obvious pain he dropped the shield entirely and shook his head. "No, no you are not. That's enough for tonight I think..." he said. "It is not dark yet, but you aren't taking my icy power well. I can see that from the look in your face and the grit of your teeth. You're not yet strong against your opposite, so that will do for today." He offered her his hand to shake as was customary after a challenge.

She reached out her hand only to retract it quickly. The tingle caused a sharp pain. " Ah sorry." she said and hid her hands behind her back. "I should go..." She was a bit embarrassed with herself and turned red as a beet. Her hair hid the cut on her cheek. It still burned. Probably would burn for days just like her hands. "I think my dorm is that way." She said looking down the hall. "That is where I was headed." I think that is the way...they showed me the other day." she said quietly.

He nodded quietly. "Very well. Shall I escort you or will you be fine on your own?" he asked. "Also, I believe there is a study group on campus that can help with that weakness. It's not shameful at all really, so you've nothing to be getting embarrassed about." He smiled weakly, unable to break from his formalities much. "Damn these customs..." he cursed himself.

"I doubt it." she whispered sadly. "Ah i think I will be fine on my own." she said with a smile. "Thank you sir." she said an bowed before hurrying down the corridor. The last thing she wanted anyone to see was how her body reacted to wounds made by ice magic. Even ice from a fridge or ice in a drink could harm her if it made contact with her skin too long. She felt her cheek. The skin was dry and cracked inches out from the cut. It was still bleeding slowly. She slowed her pace as her hands began to throb. "Maybe I should go to the....nah." she whispered and walked on.

He shook his head as she rushed off. "Nobody ever learns these days..." he mumbled as he headed back toward his dorm. The halls were eerily quiet except for his footsteps and the diminishing echoes of hers and he sped his pace up out of paranoia. He breathed heavily as he shut the door to his room behind him, and reclined on his bunk. "Ah well. Perhaps I'll see her again sometime..?" he muttered to himself, half asking to see if anyone was there. Silence met him, and darkness crept on him as he dozed off.

Raine fell asleep instantly and was trapped in her dreams surrounded by snow and ice, but it did not hurt. It was soft....kind...unlike the ice in reality. Something she could never be close to, or ever touch. It made her sad and jealous of Cyrus. Curiosity toward ice magic created a longing she could never quench. Then she dreamed of fire. The comfort and warmth it brought. The power it held. Her eyes burned until they turned as dark as hot coals. She woke up crying the next morning and wondered why she was. She wiped her face just as the throb of her injuries returned. The bleeding had stopped and she bandaged them finally.
"I'm still tired as though I didn't sleep at all." she groaned. The walk to her first class was painful and she dozed off as soon as she sat down.

Cyrus awoke the next day to a gentle pattering on his floor. Without moving he opened one eye to a fluffy gray cay sitting on the floor next to his bed, looking up with eyes that said "Good morning, lazy." Shaking his head he rose and scooped some leftover chicken into the cat's bowl and ate cold cereal for breakfast as he scanned over the paper. "Nothing interesting today either..." he thought as he quickly scanned the articles. One person had won a medal for excellence in thunder magic. Another had been frozen solid in a duel and was being thawed out carefully. A third was found trembling in the halls after losing a challenge to a wielder of shadow. "Boring as usual. This paper can't find anything more interesting than student duels?" he muttered, tossing the paper into the pile that had become the cat's bed. The cat, Alec, looked up sleepily for a moment as the paper landed on him then craned his neck to see Cyrus leave, and promptly fell back asleep.

Cyrus walked into his first class with five minutes to spare, though not as a student but as an instructor. "Good morning class," he announced to groans and low snores. His piercing eyes scanned the lecture hall, carefully calculating where the laziest students were. "I said," he spoke louder, "Good morning class!" Instantly a shower of icy needles rained upon those who were just waking up or still snoozing, causing them to jump in surprise and yelp in pain. He grinned almost maliciously. "Now that you're all awake, we can begin. Don't think of falling asleep again, either."

Raine was still asleep by the time class was over. The instructor left and no one was there to wake her. She snored softly as she fell deeper into sleep until the next class came in to find her there. They were older students and probably aware she was a freshman here at the university.

His first class as an instructor went well, though he could not say any of his students were very adept. Their first exam was to duel him and last a full minute at least without falling, and he could easily tell half the class would fail that horribly. He walked on to his first student class and was the first there as usual. However, he saw something he did not expect, and that was Raine sleeping at one of the benches.

"Erm ... pardon me, but aren't you a bit young to be in the Advanced Potions and Artifacts class?" he asked her, shaking her shoulder gently.

Raine nearly jumped and slowly sat up when he touched her shoulder. "Wha..." she mumbled." Her surroundings did not register yet as she tried to focus her vision. She just could not wake herself or think. She became dizzy and her head fell back on the bench with a thud. She groaned quietly and closed her eyes again. A few of the students who just entered laughed at her but she did not hear.

Cyrus sighed and shook her more violently. "Come on now. If you're not in this class you need to leave and go to your next class, or go back to your dorm to sleep. You can't stay here with the older students in such an advanced class, even if you do sleep. The professor has a nasty habit of using experimental or unusual potions on sleeping students... you might end up covered in warts or worse," he said, leaning down next to her as students slowly filed in. They gave him odd looks as they sat down but said nothing to him.

Leinad looked around himself, seeing stone walls and sensing magic all around, and thought to himself: 'Oh, wonderful. Another school of magic.' It was certainly not the first time he had found himself in such a place. Indeed, ever since he started letting himself float freely through the eddies of space whilst traveling that he wound up at some magic-concentrated place. Of course, he wasn't one to complain... Okay, so maybe he is one to complain. But even so, there had been many fun times to be had all around in such places. It couldn't be all that bad. Maybe he'd see someone he would recognize.

Leinad let out a small sigh and stood up, shaking his tail at a passing student that probably didn't notice him anyway. Oh yes, Leinad is a cat. At the moment he was a blue-grey short haired cat, medium in size, and hardly looked magical. Sniffing around, he headed in a random direction, figuring he may as well explore the area he found himself in.

She didn't move at first but slowly sat up. She glance at him and then closed her eyes again. She groaned and stood up nearly losing balance. "S-sorry" She mumbled and blushed. She was a bit embarrassed now. She walked slowly out of the room and stumbled down the hallway to her next class. She had forgotten a few books in her first classroom. "Must not be late..." she whispered.

He noticed the forgotten books and thought for a moment. "If I'm late I risk the professor's wrath ... though if I don't take her books along and find her I'll feel terrible. I know what it's like to be caught unprepared in a class..." he muttered to himself. Picking up the books he hurried out after her, passing a small gray cat on the way. He skidded to a halt, detecting a magical presence with the creature and glanced back to it for a moment to see if it would follow. She was ahead in the hall and stil had time to catch her as he hurried toward her. "Er, miss, you forgot a few things..." he said, nearly stumbling.
