Being told to stop had just about the same effect of being told that if he moved the world would end. Elzo froze. Looking back to the blue haired girl in the bed, her parents looking back at him like he had some kind of magical answer he felt a tad bit awkward knowing just what was being asked for. And just what the object in question meant. For both of them. "Uh-" He was quite the eloquent speaker at times like this.
"Yeah, Just let me go get it." Never mind it was in his pocket. The nightly ritual he'd done to give himself some hope for the future. A future that just seemed very very real...and very much wanted. Going into the hallway, Elzo darted around the corners, waiting for Audrey's parents to leave, which they thankfully did only a short time later. As for sneak by them it was a snap, the older couple wanting to go and do the medical paper work to get their baby girl out and about. As for Elzo- Flipping open the box he check the ring. Still there. Heart pounding, he slid back in the room. "Hey." A grin as he practically flung himself by her side, the tiny box open and presented to her. "God I know this isn't perfect like you wanted I mean s**t your still drugged on pain meds or something probably and half crazy and I-" he was looking into her eyes and it was over, his resolve crumbled. "God I love you, and I want you by my side forever Audrey. Are you sure you're ready. We're ready?" His hand was shaking. "******** I don't even know if we are."

Tugging at his hand had Elzo back up in the bed with her so that their faces could be close. She kissed him so softly and pulled the box from his hands before placing one of her own against his cheek. "I died Elzo. I talked to dad. He said the doctor'd told them I died for almost a full minute in surgery while they were trying to save what was left of my kidneys." There was a wealth of vulnerability in her quiet voice as it quavered before going silent.
She swallowed before continuing on, voice no less hushed and somewhat reverent. "Then when I wake up after being asleep for two weeks, the first thing I see is you. You were here every day, every night, barely leaving my side even though nobody was sure when I'd wake up. If I'd wake up." Curls fell forward over her eyes as they filled, looking down at the ring and then back up at him.
"You could have been off doing anything in that time but all you did was sit here and talk to a vegetable. There weren't any parties, any dates, anything. You just sat here and talked to me. Waited for me...and I..." Tears fell. It was perhaps the most emotional moment Audrey'd ever had so while she hated to cry, there was really no better time for it.
"You were here for me when you knew I needed you more than anything. I've never been more sure in my life that I love you and I want to be with you forever, Elzo Xanis. I'm probably crazy in general for wanting that but not because of the pain or the drugs or anything. I want this. I've wanted this." She handed the box back and held out her hand.
"Ready to seal the deal?"

His vision was going blurry again. Whoever said men weren't emotional clearly had never encountered Elzo. He was so close to crying from happiness he might have needed a box of tissues. His free was up cupping her face as she cried. The thing he knew she hated doing. How often had he been reminded just how strong she was? How amazingly tough she was. To watch her tear up was watching her open to him in the most fragile of ways. It was a moment he would remember, not just for the meaning, but for knowing how strong she was to hold back for so long.
The box was tossed literally over his shoulder. He didn't need it anymore. He never would need it again. Holding the ring out between them, it glittered under the hospital lights. "Audrey Collins." He took a breath. This was it. It wasn't perfect. It was hardly romantic. This was it. It was their moment. "One day I was walking downtown and the thought struck me to buy a bouquet of daisies. I had no real reason for it. Just figured it was something..nice. Then, walking down further I saw something. The most beautiful girl alone, looking so sad and I just-" He tried to find the words. "I couldn't just walk by. I couldn't ignore her. She was kind, charming, and it felt right. It felt all sorts of right. Soon she was gone and I was alone. But later I saw her again, and once more, I was drawn to her. Time and time again, I wanted to be with her, spend just another second near her. Then one night, when the world went dark, and no one could find us, no one could stop us... I was able to say it."
"I love you Audrey." He held out the ring. "Will you marry me?"

The box went flying and an anxious giggle burst from between the bluenette's lips, silenced as the most wonderful man in the world started talking. Audrey remembered that day very well and the exact reason why she'd been looking so sad almost had her turning bright red. From embarrassment, anxiety, or anger it would have been hard to say though in this moment it was hard to feel anything but...warm.
Everything inside of her was melting at how truly amazing and wonderful it was to look not even three feet away and see someone who saw...everything in you. To him, Audrey wasn't foolish, stupid, weak, or even cold. Elzo thought she was kind, beautiful, charming, and she knew he had quite the flame built up. And he'd waited for her like he promised.
Keeping promises was one of the most important things in the world. After all, why would you make a promise if you didn't intend to ever keep it? It was that more than anything that had sealed her mind forever.
"Yes." It was always so short to say. Yes? How did yes simply encompass what someone felt when they were told how perfect they were, how loved they were, and that someone wanted to be with them forever like that? It wasn't enough.
"I love you so much, I can't even say. I don't even know what it was about you that always made me want more. I remember when we danced that first time and you made that offer...normally I would've run home and never looked back. But I wanted to. You're so different. I don't know what it is but I love it." There was no putting a finger on why Audrey loved Elzo and Lord only knew she'd tried.
It was just one of those things you didn't question. It just was.
The ring slid onto her finger and arms slid themselves around Elzo, lips meeting even as she gasped in pain from pulling stitches in the movement. The moment had given her energy but it was still very soon after waking up and the pain medication was wearing off. It wasn't perfect, it wasn't romantic, but it was their moment. Nothing else mattered.
