"I can sympathize with the sentiment," she replied idly. "I worked by myself for years; it was difficult to readjust to a team dynamic." Perhaps she hadn't fully adjusted, but she was certainly more assimilated than she had been those first couple of months.

Aila spared a glance at Eclair; the Pikachu was clearly unhappy about her circumstances, but she continued to run nonetheless. Passingly the human noted to give her a break soon. "Ah, is that so?" she replied. "I didn't know the girls in my room very well when I was a trainee. It's good to be familiar with them - for convenience's sake, if nothing else." Could she even remember the names of the girls with whom she had roomed? No. She did remember disliking them, though. She ducked her head slightly at the compliment in a subconscious show of modesty. She'd heard a lot of words to describe her person in the past, but 'nice' was a new one. The ensuing question elicited a pensive pause.

"I can't say," she answered at length. "It's not as though it's confidential information. Anyone who investigates my file will find it written there. If he knows it, though, he doesn't seem to treat me any differently for it."

"Well, that's good to hear," Shawn answered. " I'm sure we've all done things we're not proud of in our pasts. Heck, maybe even in our present. But doesn't mean a person should be judged by a single incident. No one could have known what the circumstances were at the time, like if you were forced to kill someone in self-defense." Not that he was saying Aila had killed in self-defense, but she could have. It was a possible theory, and no one who didn't know all the facts had any right to judge her otherwise.

"Yeah, we've got a weird bunch in our dorms," the trainee admitted. "There's Inigo, who loves his plants and grass-types. There's this creepy gangster guy who's half-bald and has tattoos all over him...and this skinny dude who's always wearing a parka. Plus a guy with a Russian name I can't remember, some dude who goes by the nickname 'Moose', another guy I haven't met yet." He sighed. "It's kinda unnerving with so many people in the same room, not to mention pokemon, but I'm kinda getting used to it." Except for the ghost-types. He would never get used to those.

"Sorry to keep your, um...'Eclair' waiting," the teen said suddenly, noticing the upset pikachu. At least it hadn't seemed to be angry enough to try to attack, yet. Maybe Aila really did have it under control. "It - er, she - probably wants to run with you."

"Indeed," she agreed with a brief nod. "We are a people comprised of all manner of backgrounds. I'm sure there are those with far darker shames than myself residing in this building." The words weren't said with an intent to scare the other Rocket, of course, but merely as a reflection voiced aloud. She could recall one other who had confessed to murder, and the halls were rife with various shady figures. Her own department was filled with thieves and liars, after all.

His concluding statement on the subject of his living conditions was met with approval. All one could do was attempt to grow accustomed, and if he was already succeeding in that, then he was already basically in the clear. Anyone who could adapt from living solitarily to coexisting with a group of strangers in the same room was capable of adapting to anything.

An exasperated "chuu" answered to the Pikachu's name, and Aila nodded with a thoughtful hum. "I suppose I should make her work so hard by herself, should I?" she said, an inclination of her head indicating that she was speaking as much to the electric-type as she was to the human. "Very well, then. I'm sorry for interrupting, and it was a pleasure to speak with you."

"Not at all. Thanks for stopping to help me," the boy answered, smiling. "I know I'm just a lowly trainee and all, but that was really nice. Oh...I'm Shawn, by the way," he added, though he doubted the higher-ranking woman would have cared. It was simply good manners. "Codename Trainee Shadow, though. Still getting used to it."

He turned up the pace on the treadmill to the original speed it had been before Aila and Eclair had arrived. Not before a final word, though. "It was a pleasure talking to you too, Agent Aila. I'll keep what you said in mind." The street kid tilted his head at her. "I hope we see each other again sometime."
