It goes in cycles for me. There will be times when I just devour books and such and I've got two or three going at one time, and other times I can barely bring myself to read my email.
Thinking about it, I think mine slum might be because I'm trying to force myself to read as much as possible and I tend to rebel when pushed into doing something.
And another thing that has been bugging me: in another guild I'm in there's a subforum for gods and goddesses. The guild owner went through and posted a bunch of threads for Greek and Norse deities and I was reading the one on Aphrodite and it seemed like she didn't do any research and she only had one source. She had basically copy and pasted the whole page from the site she cited but it rubbed me the wrong way on how it was worded that Eros was the son of Aphrodite and that was that. There was nothing about the possibility of myths saying otherwise. When I brought it up this girl came in saying that myths change and that's that. Well with me already being on edge I didn't say anything back since I used to be active in that guild. But the owner came in agreeing with her and just left it be. So to me it seems like it's ok just to go with whatever myth you want and just ignore the other myths that say something different. So is it really ok to do that and I'm just letting my emotions get the best of me right now? Or was I right in thinking that yeah myths change but it's not ok to just ignore "the old ones"?

No, that's not okay, you called her on her bullshit copypasta. If there are varieties in the myths and you are making some sort of informative post you should acknowledge differences between sources.
Most info posts on deities in guilds are overflowing with bullshit and they all make me very mad and I don't tend to go into those guilds because if you say something like "actually, Hekate is a maiden goddess" or "as it happens, Freyja isn't a moon goddess" they get really bitchy and ban you. Because to them it doesn't matter that all their info is bullshit, because all the gods are the same anyways.
It also pissed me off that she just waved off what I said because the one link I posted(damn iPod making me lazy a** in finding sources) was from the same site she got her stuff on Aphrodite. Then she tried telling me that the two articles didn't contradict each other since the article on Eros that I posted said that one myth did say that Aphrodite was his mother but it had also listed off the other possibilties that are foun in myths.
Didn't help either that she started posting Shinto deities and I think that because it's a closed religion that they should be left alone and the other girl in thread was all excited because she wanted to study Shintoism.

Yyyyyeeeeeeeaaahhhhhhhhh boh. Theoi brings all the boys to the yard.
And we're like, "our sources are superior to yours. They are primary and therefore superior to yours. I am not going to teach you because you can read them your damn self and admit your ignorance."
But I think she was using pantheon.com and when I was looking for the stuff on Eros I would doing a quick Google search. But I will have to check out Theoi

Brooklyn Rage!!! Or maybe it's just turned in Egyptian Rage by now.
Wow so I went back and said something about Shinto being closed culture and this is what I got back:
Quote:
Funny as far as it being closed off you can gain access to the Kojiki and Nihongo from sacred-texts.com as well as the Tsubaki shrine, whose own high priest has a guide to Shintoism on it's webpage as well as all the deities being on encyclopedia mythica. :s. If the Gods themselves allow outsiders to worship them, then that is up to the divine. Especially if the human culture is xenophobic :s Now stop derailing the thread.
And she was the one that derailed the ******** thread in the first place and let the other girl continue to derail it. I only said one thing that was off topic and that was that Shinto was closed. Plus it didn't help that I woke up and jumped on to find the Shinto threads out weigh the number of other deities >.>
Just because you can gain knowledge on a closed culture or religion, it doesn't mean you are allowed to participate in it. Availability of information doesn't imply anything about the Gods intentions or approval.
