Maera looked back at her home one last time. She had made up her mind and she was leaving no matter what. Her mentor couldn't persuade her not to. Even her best friend, Boromir, could not make her change her mind. There were just too many rules, too many restrictions. She didn't like always having a scheduele and always having to do the boing, pointless things that her teacher always said would help her in the long run.
"Are you ready, Mir?" she asked, turning to her furry little friend. She had no doubt that he would be coming along. The fox followed her everywhere.
"Of course I am. I was ready long before you were," he said playfully. As Maera held her hand down to him, he quickly jumped onto it and crawled up her arm. He came to a halt in his normal resting place on her shoulder.
