Observing the ghoul's reactions to her words, Riyo seemed unimpressed. Drooping ears, loss for words. She'd seen this before.

"There's everything wrong. Don't you see?" She was slowly starting to understand that most people wouldn't see her point of view here. They were too busy obsessing over getting as many friends as possible. "You let these people in, share the deepest parts of yourself with them, and there's a very good chance they end up leaving you anyways. If you're lucky, leaving is all they'll do."

When Arashi was mentioned, the ghoul sighed and stared at her fellow feline. "Yes. But all Arashi really needs from you is food, a place to sleep, and the occasional ear scratch to be happy. One wrong word." She held up a finger to emphasize. "Just one wrong word can cause somebody to despise you, and no matter how much you apologize, some will never forgive you. Hell. Sometimes you don't even know what you did wrong." There she went again, preaching the good word of anti-friendship.

Xiu had never quite met anyone with an opinion like Riyo's. Shun was...close, perhaps, but he had ended up opening himself up somewhat to a few people in his time at Amityville. Would Riyo be the same, she wondered? Whatever the case, the Baku wasn't entirely sure how to approach this topic, though she was a little curious. What made the other ghoul think this way?

"They don't always leave," Xiu spoke thoughtfully, frowning slightly, "And...if you were good friends, wouldn't you cherish the time you had together? I-I mean...it's said that relationships help you become a better person." The Baku would be lying if she said that she hadn't thought about this topic before. She knew that, once they all grew up and left Amityville, it was highly likely that a few of them would part ways. It didn't mean that they couldn't still keep in contact over Groanspring or Squeemail, but...

Well, she would never regret having made friends!

Xiu frown deepened slightly as Riyo pointed out the difference between friendships between people and minis versus people with other people. "Is there...a reason you think this?" Was Riyo just cynical about friendship for no particular reason, or had something happened to affect how she thought? Not that it was really her business either way!

For Riyo, they HAD always left, and at the worst possible times. "Sure. You can cherish it. But it also makes you long for that companionship. I don't agree with the idea that it's better to have something and lose it than never have it at all. At the very least you don't know what you miss when things like that just pass you by." As far as becoming a better person, Riyo couldn't help but smirk. "I'm certainly not a better person." Though the feline didn't realize just how different her case was.

Many things had happened to the feline that added to her anti-social, anti-companionship personality. It was planted as a seed during her childhood, and had grown into a wicked-looking weed with every drop of loneliness it received, but there was one instance that stuck out the most.

The question seemed to cause the ghoul to mellow out, her eyes looking almost dazed as she saw a flashback right in front of her. "This hat." The ghoul pointed up to the elegant looking top hat that sat upon her head. "I don't just wear it because it looks nice." Why was she sharing this? Why had she been spilling her guts to strangers recently? It drove her mad that Riyo let herself do this... But at the same time she couldn't stop herself. Besides, what harm could this small tidbit do? "A boil gave it to me when I was young. Out of the blue, really. I was walking down the street and I passed a young man playing a violin. I stopped because I'd never actually seen anybody play something like that.."

Recalling the thought actually made the ghoul smile a little. "He stopped playing after a moment to look at me. I can't really say what he saw, but he smiled very sadly at me. Perhaps out of pity for things he couldn't have known..." Because right after that, something terrible happened. "But... He noticed me looking at his hat, and placed it on my head. It was big... But he told me that I'd grow into it." Which she had. "... Then he left. I wished I would've followed him. Would've gotten his name or something like that... But.. I didn't." It was why she had regretted even stopping. Though, without that small meeting, she would've never played the violin, nor had any nice thoughts to get her though... That very bad time.

"It was the closest thing I'd ever had to friendship... And even that small meeting managed to leave me with a sense of disappointment and longing."

Xiu was silent as Riyo spoke, surprised that the other ghoul was actually telling her all this. She had half-expected for the feline to tell her that it was none of her business, but instead, Riyo had gone on to actually answer her question. When she finished her story, the Baku frowned, the corners of her lips tugging downwards in a slight frown.

"I-I'm sorry." She looked genuinely apologetic--whether for what had happened to the ghoul, or for having asked the question at all wasn't clear. After a moment of silence, she glanced back up towards Riyo and tilted her head slightly. "But does that mean you never want friendship? Even then, sometimes it...might happen without you expecting it."

Xiu looked down at Arashi. Again, she held up the melonkit, but this time so that he was closer to Riyo. As if understanding what his owner was trying to do, the feline reached out and "caught" Riyo's nose between his soft paws, keeping his claws sheathed. "You're right that Arashi needs food and a place to sleep to be happy...but he still seems like he wants to be your friend even if you don't offer these things."

... Might happen without her expecting it?

The ghoul's brow furrowed at the suggestion of this possibility. Just how could it happen without her expecting or agreeing to it? "I don't think-" Riyo was silenced as the smaller feline grabbed her nose between his small paws.

She had always figured that the main reason her cats stayed is because she kept them well-fed and spoiled every last one. Sure, Felix was pretty... Devoted, but eventually he would get tired of waiting around if she didn't give him food, right?

There were a lot of thoughts going through her head as she stared at the melonkit in front of her face before finally backing away. "I should go." She would neither admit defeat nor continue defending the point (because she couldn't). "I have my own cats to tend to." A poor excuse, but an excuse nonetheless. With no formal goodbye, she attempted a retreat back to the demon dorms, her damaged defenses needing time for repair.

Oh, was she...was she going now? Shifting Arashi so that she could carry him in one arm, Xiu raised a hand and waved goodbye, her expression puzzled. "Oh, um...okay! It was nice to meet you, Riyo!" She watched as the other ghoul retreated, and then looked back to her mini, stroking his head thoughtfully.

"...Well, maybe we'll run into her again sometime. I'd like to talk to her some more if I get the chance." When Arashi glanced up at her and meowed in agreement, the Baku grinned. "Yup, I'm sure we'll see her again. Until then...let's go back, okay?"
