"Not ready for children?" she returned. She wondered why that seemed to please her. He was a good looking buck and she wanted more children. Then again if hearing about children satiated his curiosity, it was for the best. She had a type and it wasn't the kind she had to wait for. Then again she kept meaning to ferret out more information about blessings -- she really didn't want another daft child -- so now wasn't the time to find a suitable buck anyway. That was good for him; it was good for her, too.
Odd. That wasn't the right term for it. Out of the blue, however, was. She inclined her head to better look at him. What did she want to ask him? What should she ask him? She rolled her shoulders and rose to stand. A stretch would help. "Let me see," she murmured. She might have tried to dig into his questioning her about children but she had no idea how that might turn out and she did not want this meeting to turn sour. She could have teased him but that, too, had possibilities that might have either of them leaving in a huff. Not at all appealing. Perhaps she could maim two birds with one stone -- a dead bird really wasn't very useful.
"Do you know anything about Legendaries?" she offered. She was going to laugh if he'd never heard of them or thought them a myth, it'd be so fitting. One stone missing both quarries.

"In a manner of speaking." He nodded, smiling a little. "Perhaps in the future, but for now I'm content with myself and the stray company I find myself in on nights like this." He barely cast a thought on this doe's beauty in respects to breeding; it just wasn't something he thought of often. It was a thought he had in solitude, when a particular night brought with it a whiff of contemplation about the future.
Heed sat back as Lull mused on what she wanted to know about him, patient and unmoving as the fireflies lazily drifted closer and then away from him. In certain light, he was almost as still as a statue, save for the light breathing. A habit, really.
"Legendaries?" His interest piqued. Few kimeti he came across even acknowledged them. "I know they exist." He offered, shrugging a shoulder. "As much as I know air exists, at any rate. I've never seen one, never met or spoke with one, but..." It was a feeling he had, deep in his chest. "But I know little. Those I've come across either regard them as legend or know as little as I do." He smiled apologetically. "Are you looking for one?"

"Contentment is a treasure," she murmured. She herself was often content alone and rarely sought out company. Boredom had proven to be a fair motivator for the latter. And even then her son cropped up enough that she was never tired of herself -- loneliness must be a dreadful thing. She wondered if Heed would stay with the doe he chose or even know he had children. She herself had never come across her first mate -- her nose twitched, she didn't like that word -- and she rather doubted he knew of their children.
An amused quirk of her mouth preceded her voice, "Oh, not looking for one yet." She paused and ordered her thoughts. "I would like to meet one, someday, until then it's nice to learn whatever I can," she conceded. Honestly, she probably knew less than he did. She'd heard of them of course -- small meek voices filled with wonder and awe -- and wondered. It wasn't until she'd heard of blessing that her curiosity had bloomed. To some extent she'd ignore it, the shadow she'd seen had the games gathering had taken over but as she'd long since lost sight and trail of it, now she found she very much wanted to meet a stag or mare that others so revered.
She pulled herself from her long drawn out thoughts and looked at him. There was no expectation in her gaze. "If I were to find one, would you like to know?" she offered instead. She wasn't sure why exactly. Knowledge could be so very valuable and to give it away could be foolish. He seemed like he'd treasure it though and then she'd have an excuse to seek him and the fireflies out.

The amused smirk made Heed grin. He'd guessed wrong, but she didn't seem to fault him for it. Whether she did or not, he didn't much mind, but it was good to see an amused smile all the same. "I see." He nodded a little, and smiled. "I've been looking for a storyteller who might know more, but so far, I've had little luck in finding one." Which was in and of itself a let down. The downside of being a night owl, very few story tellers wandered in the dead of night.
"I would love to meet one, as well." He mused, inclining his head with a smile. "The legends say they're... They can help even those who don't know they have a problem to be helped." He finished with a tiny snort. And Heed knew he had a problem that needed to be fixed.
At his offer, he lifted his gaze to her face, scrutinizing her expression closely for a long moment before he spoke. Though his face was serious, after that long moment, he broke into a wide smile. "If we're lucky enough to run across each other again? Absolutely." He nodded. "I'll extend you the same courtesy; if I find one first." He said with a coy sort of tone, grinning a little.

Lull had not often come across storytellers. She had to admit it could be a good source -- especially one that adored an audience and loved to hear its own voice -- but she thought adding something else to search for would end up more trouble than anything. She'd once told a story but that did not make her a storyteller. Perhaps she'd keep an eye open for one in case.
That did not sound the same as blessings -- well not the kind she had heard of -- but she imagined Legendaries to be capable of a good many things. It was an interesting idea. Not that she had any problems. His small snort caught her attention deftly, "That is very good to know." She smiled, perhaps she should find her son and make him meet a stag or mare. He definitely did not know he had a problem. She wondered though what problem Heed might have, for the way he spoke made her think there was something he wanted by meeting one. She however did not want to pry, she found his company pleasant and she'd rather not ruin it.
Attention, scrutiny, rarely bothered her and this -- unexpected to be truthful -- did nothing to make her gaze waver. She meant what she said. There was a good chance that if she hadn't meant it, the reaction still would not have made her waver. Still it was something. "How kind of you," she smiled and then laughed. "Do you really think you'll find one before me?" she challenged. It was mostly in jest and yet there was a slight combative spirit in her eyes. Oh yes she'd do all she could do find one first, if only to satisfy her own desire to be best.

He grinned a little at her challenge, nodding. "I do." He said, smirking a bit in his challenge. The jest wasn't missed, but neither was the combative gleam in her eye. It was a fun game, racing, even when the end was not in sight and might not even exist.
"Especially if they're as drawn to little glowing bugs as I am." He grinned, standing and letting a shiver run down his spine, making the short fur along his back move before settling again. "But if we're going to find anything before either of us is old and gray, or worse..." He said slowly, glancing around.
"It's a misfortune to leave the glade." He would have left regardless, at some point or another. He had no permanent 'home' in the Swamp, and preferred it that way. Travelling brought with it such interesting kimeti.

She returned the grin and laughed. It would be hard to prove who found one first unless they met and the other hadn't found one at all. Not that it mattered, if that happened she was positive it would be him who was still looking. And beautiful as they were, she didn't think the fireflies would tip the balance in his favor. "With that in mind, I shall tell all I meet to avoid the lovely glowing bugs for they hide a monster!" she teased.
Yes in a race one had to move fast even if she resented the idea that she could be old. That was an appalling thought but she'd let it pass since there were more important things to think of.
She watched as he looked around. "It'd be even more of a misfortune to miss the adventure of seeking out a legend." She offered a smile and let her eyes drift on the lazing fireflies before turning to look out into the darkness. It was time to go. Time to find something amazing.
