Asch watched this with an unwavering frown. Hm... right, she was a lot smaller than him, plus women didn't have as much arm strength. This would not do.

"We will have to find you a more suitable sword," he admitted as she tried to lift and position his weapon. "This one is meant to be used with one hand as well as both." And it looked like she was barely able to use it with two.

But for now, this would have to do as he showed her the basics. Coming around behind Aila, he reached around her to place his hands on the sword to cover hers. Moving her hands into the correction position to hold the sword as well as aiding his strength so that the weight wouldn't wear on her quickly.

"One-handed?" The disbelief was an automatic reaction, though it instantly embarrassed her. Indeed, even with two hands the weapon was nearly too much for her to properly wield. Perhaps she should have been expending a bit more energy on strength training in the past... Now that the sword had threatened to best her, however, it had become a challenge - and once it was an outright challenge, there was nothing that could persuade her to back down.

Her partner's sudden proximity was slightly uncomfortable, but the added strength and corrected positioning of her hands made the weapon much easier to wield. She shifted her stance to what she felt the most natural complement to the posture of her arms.

Not realizing that his assistance might be a bit uncomfortable for her, Asch stayed where he was, so that Aila wouldn't lose her grip on the sword.

"Swordsmanship is not difficult once you understand the basics. However, you must continue to practice and to learn if you ever wish to improve. The three basic parts are attacks, guards, and footwork. To attack you either use the point or the blade. Attacks vary depending on the weapon and the style you use. To attack with the edge, swing the sword in an arc that allows the blade to make contact with the target. You can vary the speed and force of an attack by making your cuts from the shoulder, elbow, or wrist."

Asch then demonstrated these moves by directing Aila's arms to swing the sword in the proper motions. One for each of the three cuts that he had just described.

"Cuts from the wrist are quicker but weaker. While cuts from the shoulder are stronger but slower."
