"Yeah, I don't blame him," the white lion admitted. "Or the rest of 'em. I mean, some of those high class lions treat them like crap." Yareha's tone hardened as he went on, venting one of his many grudges against certain lions and certain thought patterns.
Really, it was the misconception that some were blessed that started this whole mess. It was all very well to want the pride's rulers to be born under a full moon, but why the many ranks for all the moon's phases? Why not just lump everyone else in together? That way there would be much less cause for resentment because the only high ranked lions would be the royal family and maybe their close relatives.
Hell, the royal family had a lot of relatives anyway and pretty much hit every rank with them!

"Not everybody, though," she responded, her smile fading a bit though still present. It was just recently that it had gotten really bad, it could get better again. She agreed with Yareha, though, so it was hard to see how his attitude could be slowing down the progress rather than helping it.
She could tell that he was getting worked up, though, and that her defense for the pride in general might not go over well. She hesitated a second before trying to redirect the conversation.
"I was just going for a walk, did you want to join me or were you on your way somewhere?" she asked, fibbing about what she had been doing- but it was unimportant. She hadn't really had any plans.

He had to actually stop and force himself to think about what Laelia'd said, instead of just reacting and figuratively biting her head off. "Yeah, not everybody," he agreed gruffly.
He was ready to get himself worked up into a towering rage again when she interrupted his thoughts again with an invitation. The white lion blinked in surprise and, perhaps for the first time in this conversation, really focused on the lioness.
"Uh...sure. I'm not going anywhere in particular. Just...around and out, you know?"

His reaction was priceless and Laelia was pleased by it- daring to even bat her eyes a bit as he tried to focus and get out a reply to her invitation. This was fun, it was too bad she didn't meet anybody worth flirting with more often.
"No reason you can't come with me, then," she said, beaming and nodding for him to turn himself around to the direction she had been walking. She had no idea where she would lead him but she could make it up as they went.

He hadn't really been up to noticing it before, but Laelia wasn't a bad looking lioness. So when she batted her eyes at him, he smiled and winked back. No harm in playing the same game right back, after all.
And who knew, she wasn't likely to run off like certain rogues after all. She was part of the Mwezi'Johari and though she, like Yareha, might not agree with the leaders of the pride on everything, she was still loyal to the group.
"Well then, let's be off," he replied suavely with a polite nod of the hair, and gestured for her to lead the way.
This was really turning out much better than he'd hoped when he initially left his den today. Hopefully things would continue looking up!
