"Tuna's pretty nice?" she suggested. "Maybe in a sandwich?" Gigi actually hadn't seen a lot of pet food really. It was just fish mush, as far as she knew, which didn't seem that bad. She wasn't sure why she was trying to sell the talking cat on cat food, but if he liked bread, she figured he should give it a try. After all, it wasn't a good idea to eat cake all the time. Or maybe it was good for magic cats, who knew?
She giggled. "I love cupcakes too! What flavour? You should meet my friend, he makes the best cupcakes!" Though come to think of it, Arian had said his house was very small. He probably couldn't take in a kitty either.
"Okay, so. I'll be right back! Don't go away?" she said, a hesitant note creeping into her cheerful words. It really was probably a dream again, but she hoped the kitty wouldn't just disappear. She stood up, keeping her eye on the cat as she moved backwards to the bakery door.

Actually Athene wasn’t a great fan of tuna and he particularly loathed the canned variety, although he managed to withhold from comment –figuring it would look a little strange for him to admit to the dislike given that it is was a pretty well-known fact that cats liked fish. The dark-eared cat couldn’t help the slight wrinkle of his kitty nose though – after all it was tuna being talked about and the variety that came in sandwiches was usually of the yucky canned variety.
Gigi’s question about his favourite cupcake flavour prompted a slight think-think, there was so many great flavours out there that the senshi-turned-cat didn’t think he could pick just one , “The chocolate raspberry ones and the toffee apple minis here always smell really good” he said at last. “So does the chocolate mud cake.” While watching the curly-haired girl make her way over to the bakery door the dark-eared cat wondered about the cupcake making friend that Gigi had mentioned, maybe she had other friends who made cupcakes too, after all it would be kind of strange if it was him she was talking about – especially as he couldn’t exactly admit to knowing her – not in this current form.

With a last reluctant look back, Gigi ducked into the bakery, determined to be as quick as she could. The queue wasn't too large, giving her enough time to count her change and study the cupcake display for the requested flavours. Strange, the cat had got the cake names exactly right. Could he read as well as talk, she wondered? But she had to crane her neck to see him out the window, so he must have amazing eyesight too to even see the display's placards. It was a bit of a stretch to believe, but things didn't have to make sense when you were dreaming. The bakery did have a coffee-and-cake deal for a large cupcake, which would leave her with just enough money to get one mini as well. She chose the first two flavours he'd named, and hoped he wouldn't be too disappointed to miss out on the chocolate mudcake. It would probably have been her first choice, but not really as a breakfast food. Hopefully he'd understand. She drummed her fingers on the counter as she waited for her order, shooting anxious glances out the window to check if the cat was still there.
Finally the barista handed over her covered cardboard cup and the box of cupcakes. She all but ran out of the shop with a bright 'thank you!' as she skittled the other patrons, cupcakes held carefully against her chest and coffee balanced in her other hand - though she hadn't taken so much as a sip yet. This was an experiment now. Would the talking kitty still be here when she woke herself up properly?
Kneeling back down on the pavement, she carefully set down the pair of cupcakes, big and small, in front of the cat. "Breakfast is served! I hope these are okay, I didn't have enough to get the other one."

Gigi would find the dark-eared cat where she’d left him, Athene having spent the time while waiting for the curly-haired teen watching as people came and went, in between sniffing at the delicious scents wafting out. Black forest, toffee apple, chocolate raspberry… They all smelt so totally wonderful – promising a bite full of heaven for any sweet treat lover. Athene had only been expecting one cupcake, so the dark-eared cat was unable to help a startled “Oh wow” when the two cupcakes were set in front of him, although it was quickly followed up with an appreciative “Thank you, thank you very much they’re both great.” He didn’t make a move to immediately tuck in however, instead sitting up on his hind legs and raising his right paw out “I’m Athene by the way.” Just because the senshi-turned-cat didn't feel like he could let his friend know who he was as a civilian, it didn't mean that proper introductions couldn't be made.

There was nothing quite so wonderful as a happy feline. Gigi watched the cat's expression change, breathing a secret sigh of relief that her offerings were acceptable to kitty. While on the one hand she'd always been taught that pets would eat whatever was put in front of them, this one seemed to have views, and she didn't want to disappoint him with bad cupcakes. Like weird savoury ones or something. Not that she'd buy that.
She was momentarily confused when he sat up like a meerkat on his hind legs, but the gesture of his paw was unmistakeable, and a further wonder. She thought only dogs shook hands! And the cat looked so elegant posed like that, where was a video camera when you needed one? Cupcake-loving kitty could be the next internet sensation. She set her own 'breakfast' carefully on the concrete and took the offered paw very gently between her thumb and first two fingers to shake, marvelling at how soft the fur was, and the little paw pads, much softer than any toy.
"Pleased to meet you, Athene!" she replied, trying to match his polite tone, but her delight bubbled up into a less than formal giggle. "I'm Gigi!"
"Well, are you going to eat them?" she prompted, picking up her coffee and inhaling the steam. They must look like a strange pair, having a tea party on the sidewalk.

“Pleased to meet you too Miss Gigi and yes thank you I will.” The dark-eared cat didn’t need any further prompting to tuck into his cakey breakfast and after their finger to paw shake he proceeded to do just that. It was pretty much impossible eat cake neatly without opposable thumbs, although Athene did his best. Getting to eat cake again most definitely made up for it though, even if the dark-eared cat had to stop from time to time to clean frosting from his muzzle and whiskers. Eventually though both cupcakes were demolished. "Thank you again for the cupcakes" Athene's voice was appreciative as he cleaned the last of the frosting from his whiskers.

Gigi hid a giggle behind her cup. Her friend Arian called her 'Miss', too, and it was so strange to hear it from- well, okay, it was strange to hear any conversation from a cat, but whatever. It must be a cupcake thing, she decided. Cupcakes - national food of the painfully polite!
She sipped her drink and watched the cake crumbs fly. Whatever this dream was, it appeared to be holding out against caffeinated logic, but she didn't really mind because it was just too cute. Athene looked completely adorable with icing on the tip of his little nose, but in the end he was surprisingly neat. She guessed cats really were as clean as everyone said. Maybe she could talk her mum into getting one after all.
"You're welcome! Any time! Are you feeling better now?" she asked, reaching over to tentatively scratch his ears again.

Athene nodded, feeling more cheerful now that his stomach was full of cupcake. “Yes, thank you” cake had a way of making things feel better – not as good as goey, fresh from the oven cookies – but it was almost as good. Being scratched under the ears was as nice as having his coat stroked and the dark-haired cat was happy enough to let his Meadowview friend continue to do so. The surprisingly generous cupcake breakfast meant that the dark-eared cat didn’t need to go beg bread pieces from the bakery owner, which meant that at some point Athene would probably end up trotting back to the park – he spent a lot of time at the park, or maybe wander around nearby. One thing about being a cat was that it made for simple routines – although he’d still swap it for opposable thumbs and his human life back. A thought occurred to him, distracting the dark-eared cat about how being petted made him want to try something like purring “I hope I’m not taking too much time out of your morning though.” Just because Athene had nothing but time as a cat, it didn’t mean that it was the same for Gigi.

"I'm glad," Gigi said, smiling. It did seem to her that whatever had been weighing down the little green cat had lifted with a good sugary meal. Even if he was a dream, she didn't want to see him unhappy. She gave the soft fur another pat, content to drift in their little breakfast timewarp a while longer, until Athene drew her attention to how long they'd been there. She glanced down at her wrist, which was adorned with a spare hair ribbon and a complete absence of wristwatch, and then around at the rush of busy morning people.
"Of course not!" she assured him blithely. "There is always time for cats and breakfast!"
Gigi had no idea what time it was, or what time she'd left the house, though given her usual track record, she probably was late. If she was honest, she may have already been late when she first saw Athene. But it was all good, she'd just have to tell them the coffee shop had been super-busy. They'd understand.
"I should probably head off soon, though," she admitted reluctantly. "Will you be okay?"

Athene nodded “I’ll be fine, thank you” his voice was friendly and he could help but add. “Especially thank you again for the cake, that’s really really made my morning.” The dark-eared cat was definitely in a more cheerful frame of mind from when the curly-haired teen had first seen him. “I hope you have a good day too Miss Gigi.” Athene was planning to head back to the park and find a bench to make himself cosy on for the rest of the day. But when he was back to normal then he’d have to do something nice for Gigi as a proper if silent thank you.

"Aww, it was my pleasure! Any time!" Gigi assured him with a smile, running her fingers over his soft little head a last time before hauling herself back to her feet. It was strange, even though she was pretty sure he couldn't possibly be real, she was worried about him, and very glad that he now seemed in better spirits. But if he was real, she hoped she could see him again. And bring a camera next time, because sooo cute!
"See you around, Athene!" she called, lifting her cup in a farewell salute before she turned away and headed off down the street again, back to the real world, already thinking up more plausible excuses in case she was late. 'Met a talking cat' probably wasn't going cut it, but she thought maybe she could tell people that anyway, just to see their expressions. It was going to be a great day.
