She was actually quite pretty now that he saw her in the sunlight. “I wanted to thank you for helping me even though I had insulted you.” Forgotten pushed aside thoughts of how it all came to nothing. “I greatly appreciate… is that a wasp?” His gaze had drifted off, settling on a rather furious looking giant insect tethered to a tree.

Rise had stayed silent during their little exchange, and had, indeed, thought many things. Many, many things, that as he regarded the kiokote (one of the rare ones he'd seen; Cue knew how to pick them, indeed) and followed the fellow's gaze to the wasp, became very, very prominent to him. That smile, that smile resurfaced, and he was ready to watch the romantic drama unfurl.

This would be the perfect time to apologise in turn. She had said things as well, that most would consider far worse than the metaphorical ankle-swat he had dealt her. ...She had learnt much since that night they ran together, but odds were on that she would never be that mature, it's not like she did anything wrong after all, yadda yadda. "Yes." She said instead.

“Oh…” Was that the best he could do? Unable to look at her again, he continued to stare at the wasp thinking it to be a really rather striking if terrifying looking creature. “Is it yours?”

Rise would've been more effusively delighted had she not had a very distinctive suitor over (he didn't want to be the embarrassing uncle, not at this point), and instead continued to grin most self-satisfiedly, dreadfully happy to be privy to this exchange (that he had to share with everyone else later).

“It’s nice.” He wanted to tell her that she had been right, that he was a failure. He wanted to say that he was in his darkest moment now, that his heart felt hollow and even though he still had his siblings, he felt terribly lonely. Instead he dipped his head to her respectfully. “That is all I wanted to say. I will leave you alone now.”

Part of her couldn't quite believe what she was about to do, but...well. If she was to run with one for a good long time now, what was another? (And this way she wouldn't have to apologise and it would still balance out fair - not that she had to apologise for doing nothing wrong yadda yadda.) "Have you found the buck you were looking for?"

The moment of reckoning. She stepped up to the wasp and severed the loop around it with a snap. Well, then?
The wasp...hovered. Beat its wings. Weaved a little, experimentally, as if to make sure the restraining vine was truly gone. Who knew what it thought? But the angry buzzing that had characterised its tethered tenure had subsided to a low thrum...and it did not leave.
Well. So it was.
"I will look with you."

He opened his mouth to say ‘’I’ve given up the search, my siblings are happy and my life is over’ but instead he uttered “Okay.” Then he simply stood there looking bemused.

She took five steps towards him, then looked behind her. The wasp had followed. Preconditions fulfilled, no turning back now. Walking past the kiokote, she started to vocalise her battle plans for the first time in her life as she made for the exit, "Since the last Weep spoke to you, we have heard of more dark-pelted kimeti with multiply-coloured glow. We will infiltrate the more densely-populated areas and start our inquiries there."
She paused her step just before she left the shop proper, "I'll have to suspend my operations for the store, Rise. Please engage Death and Cry to pick up my quota, and tell them...I owe them." Words she never thought she would utter.
"Now then, Once Forgotten. Let's go."

“Yes, I’m coming.” The Kiokote followed obediently, glancing once more at the wasp. New hope blossomed in his chest. He had a purpose again. Once Forgotten shed the heaviness that had settled in his heart and walked beside Cue Queue with his head held high.

Not wanting to interrupt their charming conversation, he merely nodded to her instruction as Cue took the lead and concluded the scene in the only way proper - a happy ending. He wore a final fond, proud smile while he watched them leave...she really had grown up now, Cue, that dear little girl, taking off with her Kiokote and her wasp. " What a handsome couple," he noted to himself as they disappeared into the swamp. " And what beautiful babies they will make!" END
