Leste reared back suddenly when the Sharpedo erupted from the water, leaving Luke grasping at her feathers to keep from falling in himself. He cursed loudly as Emil was dragged back under, urging the Pidgeot to keep on their trail.

"Come on, a little lower!" he said, reaching for the hilt of his sword. Leste gave a brief cry of compliance, dropping her altitutde until the tips of her talons dragged long the water's surface. Luke pulled the blade from the sheath on his waist and brandished it hesitantly. "What the hell am I doing?" he wondered aloud. Cutting a line that was meant to look invisible in water while it was in water... Well, it was worth a shot anyway, right? He brought down his blade into the area between the Sharpedo and Emil, kicking up a broad arc into the air.

The Sharpedo quickly noticed as Luke started chopping at the water, seeing the Pidgeot flying overhead. Considering them a threat, the sharkmon turned around abruptly and launched itself from the water at Leste, its jaws snapping furiously. Whether it landed a bite or not, the Sharpedo was back in the water again and dove deeper, taking Emil with it.

Leste squawked fearfully, flapping violently to escape the path of the gnashing teeth and once again very nearly dumping her rider into the sea. "Agh, chill out already!" Luke reproached, an arm wrapped haphazardly around the bird's neck. The Pidgeot fought to right herself, settling at a level to high for Luke to attempt to cut the line a second time. Not that he particularly wanted to try; his clothes were already erring on soaked, and he didn't want to risk that Sharpedo's jaws wrapped around his arm. Besides, there was a better path to the same end: "Emil, just let go, dammit!"

Underwater, Emil couldn't hear a thing. All he heard was garbled words as Luke shouted while the Sharpedo dragged him deeper. Although only so deep since this was the shoreline. But now the Pokemon was pulling him towards the pier yet again and he saw a shadow as they went underneath it. His arms almost felt like they would be pulled out of their sockets as he was whipped around pylons, the Sharpedo trying to knock him off. But Emil continued to hold fast to the rod, despite its efforts, even as his back struck the concrete base of one of the posts.

The Pokemon continued to wind around the supports, Emil's eyes wide in fear even as the salt water stung them. Then suddenly everything stopped and he felt the line snap. Emil just hovered in the water for several moments, stunned, then turned around to see a pink nose just inches from him. Teeth snapped viciously and Emil reeled back in the water, bubbles rising as he let out his breath in a muffled scream. However... the Sharpedo wasn't moving. It thrashed.. but it couldn't go any farther. It had managed to tangle the line around the pylons and was now stuck.

Emil stared, then choked as he realized that he needed air. Quickly he kicked his feet and rose to the surface, taking in a huge gulp of air as his platinum blonde head became visible.

The Pidgeot stopped at the edge of the shadow the pier cast, hesitant to venture into the space below the structure regardless of how Luke encouraged her. He muttered an exasperated curse and watched the water helplessly. There had to be something else he could do. After all his training, it couldn't be the limit of his abilities to just sit there and wonder if someone was drowning in front of him. The roots of a growing fear were severed as Emil suddenly appeared from the dark depths. The fact that he couldn't immediately see the Sharpedo did little to assuage Luke's anxiety, though, and he reached a hand out in the boy's direction, "Come on! Get away from there!"

Emil gasped a few more times, trying to settle his nerves and take in more air. "W-wait!" He told Luke, still shaking from the whole ordeal. He didn't reach for his hand, though.

"Can I use your sword?"

"Wha-- Why...?" But it didn't look like Emil had any intent to get out of the water before he'd done whatever it was he wanted to borrow Luke's sword for, so grudgingly the noble passed the hilt into his hand, "Just be careful with it, okay?"

"Its trapped!" he told Luke as he took the sword, giving the other boy a grateful smile. "Don't worry I will!"

With that he dove back into the water. Swimming back down to where the Sharpedo was still thrasing around. Emil considered the situation for a moment, trying to figure out how best to do this. He then swam to the pylon nearest the Sharpedo and then realized how weird it was to swing something long and metal and kinda heavy in the water. However, he managed to cut the line and immediately the Sharpedo bolted through the water, disappearing into the murk it had stirred up.

Emil then surfaced again and reached out to hand the sword back to Luke. "Thanks, I- AAAH!" And just like that, Emil was dragged under again.

Trapped? What the hell was trapped? The Sharpedo? Well then good - why was that any of their concern?! Luke sort of regretted handing over his sword so easily, but it was done now, and all he could do was wait. He was really starting to hate waiting, even more than before if that was possible.

At last the boy reappeared, and Luke extended his hand to accept the sword that was passed back to him with a sigh of frustrated relief. "Seriously, what the hell are you doing--" He disappeared into the darkness once more. Luke drew a breath that pulled his heart into his throat and made a lunge to follow his friend into the water, but Leste adamantly blocked him from leaving her despite how he fought against her, "Dammit, Leste, let me go!"

There was silence and no movement from the water for several moments, until finally there was the sound of laughter coming from the shore. Albeit nervous laughter, which very obviously belonged to Emil.

When Luke looked, he would see the boy in the shallow water on shore with a very large pink Sharpedo that had half beached itself. Emil was smiling and patting the thing on the nose.

"Here, let me get that for you," he told it. The Sharpedo opened its mouth, full of serrated sharp teeth, and Emil ducked half of his body inside to reach in and pull the hook from its mouth.

The sound of Emil's voice in the direction of the shore finally brought an end to Luke's struggling against his Pidgeot, and he could only stare in utter, dumb-founded confusion at the boy and the shark. At the boy essentially climbing into the shark's mouth.

What.

The.

Hell.

Leste didn't need a word to know what her trainer wanted from her, and in scarcely any time Luke had jumped from her back and was sloshing through the surf in the direction of the pair, all the while shouting, "What are you doing?!" He staggered through the shallow waters and reached out a hand to pull Emil away from the rows of dagger teeth. Clearly the kid had lost his mind somewhere under the ocean.

No sooner had Emil pulled the hook out than he was yanked back by Luke. This didn't seem to bode well with the Sharpedo as it gave a gutteral warning growl, glaring at Luke.

The boy blinked in surprise at his friend, then smiled and held up the hook with the severed line still attached. "Taking the hook out of her mouth," he explained cheerfully.

That growl was exactly the reason Luke had pulled Emil away. It was probably pissed off that he'd taken its dinner right out of its mouth. Stupid pink thing, what the hell...

"You are actually insane, aren't you?" Luke said with a dark gravity to his tone. "'Taking the hook out' - so what, so it can take your head off of your shoulders?!" Emil's cheerful disposition was immensely wearying, and, suddenly aware of the weight of his own body, Luke leaned back and sat on the shore, not caring how cold the water was or how soaked he was. He expended his remaining adrenaline on one last exclamation, "Aaagh, what were you thinking?! Why didn't you just let go of the damn line?! You could have been killed, you idiot!" And that was all the energy he had; the boy deflated with a labored sigh, resting a hand on his chest to calm his still-racing heart.

Emil stared dumbfoundedly at Luke until he collapsed onto the sand. "I'm sorry..." he said quietly, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. Although really Emil had been scared for his life too, up until this point. He knew quite well that he could have been killed.

"You told me not to let go," he whined a little, glancing back at the Sharpedo who just stared back.

He then seemed to notice how worried and worn out Luke was, and Emil just felt even more guilty. "I'm sorry..." he apologized again. "Are.. you okay, Luke?"

"You're kidding me," Luke muttered, knowing full well, sadly, that it in all likelihood it was no joke. "You've got some serious problems with your basic survival instincts. Arceus..." He rested his elbow on his knee and his forehead in his hand, slowly unwinding from the all tension.

He dismissed Emil's concerns passingly, "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine-- Wait." His hand fell away from his head to point accusingly at the other boy, "What the hell are you asking me for? You're the one that got dragged around by a..." Whatever that thing was. "...You're at least gonna catch it, right?" If this was just some random act of goodwill, he was seriously going to have to strangle the kid.
