((Oh, that's perfectly fine. biggrin )) Dante followed, giving a firm shake of his head. "For the time being, I don't intend to go anywhere. I was abandoned as a foal, and I decided long ago I'd never do the same to any of my own children. Long term.." He trailed off for a moment, gazing off in the distance, then he snagged a peach and tossed it into the basket. "I don't know, long term. I'm still uncomfortable without the wilds all around me. I don't have a human, to hold me behind or teach me anything about you all. And in any case, I don't know if she wants me to stick around. It can be difficult to get a read on her. How long have you known her?"

Reo listened to Dante’s story while she picked a few peaches and tossed them in her face was passive but she knew what it was like to be abandoned and emotionally alone, at least before Alu-lote. “I see.” Reo thought for a moment. “Well I have known Alu-lote for quite some time. She came up and claimed me while I was sitting and reading poetry.” Reo smiled at the memory. “It’s nice to know you’ll be around for the little ones.” Reo searched the bond she shared with Alu-lote to see how the mare felt about Dante. She held a mental image of him in her mind and while she did not ‘send’ it she could feel a wash of warmth from Alu-lote. She rolled peach in her hand as she thought aloud for a moment. “Well I don’t think you need a human to hold you or to learn about us. I would be happy to let you stay in the stable with Alu-lote. I am on the edge of the village and it is quite small so venturing into the wilds at any time would not be so difficult a thing. Long term….” Reo set the peach in so as not to bruise it. “I think she’d just want you to be happy. So come and go as you will is also an option. There are some apples over yonder. Should we add a few?”

Dante glanced at the stables. It certainly didn't look all that big. "Will it hold all of us?" he asked dubiously. "Seems like we'll be on top of each other." He was glad enough that their home was at the edge of the settlement, as it would making slipping out easy enough to do. Having scouted around before meeting Alu-lote, he knew there were plenty of fields around to graze and lakes about to drink from. Even if the place really was only as big as it looked from the outside, he'd be able to handle it for as long as he needed.
He again followed Reo to the next set of trees. "I prefer apples," he said, smiling a bit at the huge red fruit. "Just sweet enough. Um.." he blinked, feeling a bit awkward. "What is this bond thing like? It must be something intense."

Reo looked at Dante like he was nuts and then remembered that he didn’t know the layout of her home. She laughed. “You’d think that. The stables right behind the shop would hold about five Arzein and then the ones on the other side of the living quarters would hold another five. So since only Dome Menel Alu-lote lives with me I think there is more than enough room as long as she doesn’t pop out ten little ones all at once.” Reo winked at Dante. “And should the little ones want a bit more space as they grow, they can move to the other stables so they can be safe and close, but still independent.” Reo pointed this out just in case the young had a stubborn streak which she suspected would be the case. She made note of his love for apples since it wasn’t often Alu-lote brought company home. How to describe the bond? She sighed lightly and leaned her back against the tree and looked up through the branches. “It is so incredible it’s terrifying. I was … alone and then I heard her voice in my head. I looked up and as I met her eyes I felt the bond form. All of the sadness I was feeling was washed away and I could well feel her emotions. I will never be alone as long as I live. Neither will she. Of course we try to keep some parts of our minds separate so that some sense of individuality can be preserved.” Reo winced and held a hand over her stomach. “Well now I suppose we should head back after the apples.” Reo reached up and pulled a few apples roughly tossing them into the basket without much care. “Is there anything else I can help describe for you Dante?” Reo was focused more on the apples but kept calm by talking.

Dante snorted, carefully selecting a few of the larger apples and tossing them one by one into the basket. "I think we're both far too young to have so many foals at once," he objected. "It would never end!" It was good that there was more room, for the possibilities of the future and for his current peace of mind. He supposed the buildings might have a magic nature, to look so small and actually be large. And hearing Reo's description of the bonding made him feel a little better, somehow. Alu-lote made it sound like there was nothing bad possible, but at least this human understood binding oneself so closely to another could be a terrifying thing. At least then, if somehow he himself fell into this bonding thing with some human, he would still be himself. He hadn't been sure about that.
He noticed how quickly Reo was suddenly throwing the apples into her basket, watched where her hand went when she thought he wasn't paying attention. Along with what she had just described, he realized she must be able to feel Alu-lote's pain as well as emotion. "So it's time, then?" he asked flatly, swallowing past his own nerves. "No, I can ask questions any time. Let's go."

“I think having that many little ones around at once would turn my hair white and make me hide in the house or the shop all the time.” Reo laughed. “It would be worse to be the parents I suppose. At least if they’re not mine I can spoil them and send them to you or her.” Reo began to plot how to spoil the little ones. Maybe one of them would like apples or peaches. Getting sugar cubes would be a pain. She sighed. “It is and it isn’t. My bonded feels joy, worry, pain, and love. The time should be up by the time we get bake to the stable.” She reached down and grabbed the basket. It was heavy and Reo nearly fell over. Using the tree to stabilize herself she shifted the basket to her side so she could carry it and walk swiftly. “Smart boy. If you’re around I’m sure you and I will have plenty of chances to talk. I fear you won’t find me as cheerful as my bonded, but I promise I won’t bite.” Reo’s face took on a look of determination as she started to march back to the stables. Nothing was going to stand between her and her bonded, especially not some silly thing like carrying a heavy basket. She didn’t even bother to look whether Dante was following her. Alu-lote could feel her bonded’s stubbornness and smiled to herself. She was laying down with two small bundles of joy next to her draped in the blankets Reo had left for her. “Soon you’ll meet your father little ones, and of course my human. She’s really a half elf half human, but most can’t tell.” Alu-lote nuzzled her little girl and then her little boy softly.

Dante trotted after the human, quickly passing her by as he ran back towards the stables. He had to pause for a moment once he entered the room, because it was much darker in there than it was outside. Very soon his eyes adjusted, and he could see where Alu-lote lay, nuzzling two blanket covered bundles. He stared in awe, unable to believe what he was seeing or feeling. Two amazing miracles, covered in blankets that echoed their mother, with the small dagger-like pattern from their father. From him. And this feeling, that he would do anything for those two, that he wanted them to look up to him.. it was truly love at first sight. Dante grinned and walked slowly over to them, so as not to disturb any of them. "You did good," he said softly, nuzzling first Alu-lote, then the two foals. "Welcome to the world, little ones. I'm your dad." He carefully dropped to the ground, laying his head down just to let it closer to the foals. "And you're still beautiful, Alu-lote. Just.. amazing."

Reo mentally grumbled after the male that had passed her. She understood his hurry but he might have stopped to help. It wasn’t as though Alu-lote or her little ones where going anywhere. Marching back to the stables Reo had to turn to get inside the threshold. She already knew Alu-lote’s state since she had felt all the worry gone from the mare. Reo hauled the basket over to Alu-lote. She set it down by the two adult Azrein and then had to back away. There simply wasn’t enough room in the cozy little area to allow the basket, two adult Azrein, and two young ones with the human. With Reo not there it was cozy and not cramped. Reo used a hand to rub her arms that were sore from hauling the basket. She also took a small bit of the basket that was clinging to her sleeve off. It must have broken off in her rush to the stable. Alu-lote relished Dante’s touch. She felt tired with what she had just brought into the world. She nuzzled him back. She watched him interact with her children and was filled with pride. She watched him lay his head down. She felt love bursting out of her. She picked up and apple from the top of the basket and munched on it quietly. When she finished she snorted softly. “You just wait until I finish this entire basket of food by myself. I’ll be to pudgy to be beautiful any longer. That is unless of course you’d be willing to save me from such a horrible fate.” Her eyes twinkled as she picked up another apple and placed it before Dante. She then dug into the basket to find a sweet peach. She looked up to see Reo sitting on a small stool by the tack so that she could read. “Well what say you bonded? Terrified of having little ones around yet? I know what a hermit you are.” She smiled at her bonded feeling in a very teasing mood. And of course this let Dante know a bit more about her bonded.

Dante laughed. "I doubt you would ever be anything but beautiful, pudgy or not," he told her sternly, his eyes giving away the amusement he felt. "Besides, you need to replenish your energy. Food helps." He glanced up at Reo then, somewhat apologetically. "I'm sorry I left you alone with the basket. I was.." he looked down at the foals, smiling foolishly. "..distracted." He began to eat his apple, feeling happy for the first time in a very long time. It was strange, what foals could do to you, just upon seeing them for the first time. "One day," he whispered to them, "one day, I'll take you to the mountains. You'll probably blend right in with all the snow, the both of you."

Reo only made a rude non-comental noise to both Alu-lote and Dante. “Yes yes. I’m a hermit and too weak to haul a little basket.” Reo was not about to admit to being weak. She stayed curled up around her book when a thought struck her. “mm..” She got up and headed out of the stable and then headed into the shop to rummage around for the object of her desire. “Dante you have a silver tounge.” She gently kissed Dante’s nose before diving back into the basket. While munching away on an apple she felt the little filly nudge her from under the blanket. “Ah it seems like our little girl would look forward to traveling. Or at least apples. I’m not sure which.” Alu-lote continued to eat surprised at how hungry she was. She tried to image what it would be like to be on the mountain and still truly had no idea. “Perhaps we could go to the mountains as a family. I doubt Reo would come along, but I’d still ask if you didn’t have any issue to traveling with a human.”

"I promised to take you there too, so it's not like it'd be an issue," Dante replied with a little blush. "I will warn you, though, it's a long way from here. And since we'd have to go slow with these two anyway, I don't particularly mind a human along. Though I somewhat doubt she'd care for it," he added thoughtfully, thinking of how cold and empty the wild and snowy mountains of his youth could be. The little colt distracted him by snickering suddenly and butting his little head into his father's side. "What, do you agree? And how would you know, hm?" Dante headbutted the colt back gently. "There aren't any apples there, though, so get your fill here."

Looking at Dante with his cute innocent blush the mare had to laugh. She kept it quite so as not to disturb her children. “Perhaps he knows what Reo is like.” She blinked and yawned. She could feel her bonded’s amusement but wasn’t sure what it was about. “Still I’ll ask her anyway.” Her tail twitched and she covered her little girl with it. In retaliation the little blanket raised and fell as the filly moved after feeling the pressure. “mm I believe the little ones will both be strong healthy Azrein. I wonder what they will do with their lives.” Alu-lote wasn’t concerned too much with raising them since she had a general sense of what must be done and she knew that she wasn’t alone. Still how they would turn out and what they would do was of some concern. “You don’t suppose they’ll grow up hating humans or other azrien do you?” She looked at Dante with some worry.

"Why would they? They've got us," Dante replied. "While I don't trust all the humans, I certainly don't hate them, and obviously you don't either." He nodded decisively. "They'll be strong, healthy, and happy. We'll make sure of it." He tucked the colt back into his blanket, as he'd kicked part of it off. For a moment, he wondered where the confidence came from, then he mentally shrugged it off; he'd need that confidence. It wasn't like he had experience to tell him how to be a good father. He snagged one of the last apples out of the basket and began munching it. In all the excitement, Dante hadn't even noticed that Reo had left. His attention was focused exclusively on his new little family.

Reo came trotting in holding a worn little plushie both she and Alu-lote knew all about this little plushie but she figured since there would be little ones around that perhaps she might start showing them some toys and think about what to get the little ones. “Ah well now remember this bonded?” Reo smiled as she held the plush close to her chest. “I know this is too small for the little ones, but do you think something like this would be alright for the little ones. I could go into the village and see if see if I couldn’t find someone to make a few toys big enough for the little ones. Something like a ball to bounce about, or something soft to snuggle into?” Reo wanted both Dante and Alu-lote’s opinions. “Oh Dante I think you’ll be a wonderful father.” She wasn’t sure whether he was going to be around all the time, but she knew that he would be welcome to come and go as much as he wanted. This was her home and she would stay here always ready to welcome him. Looking up at her bonded she smiled. “Yes that was the gift your friend gave to you before you came to the island. I remember you looked at me and then back at the toy thinking I had sprung from it.” She laughed at the blush Reoakee had. She nuzzled her little boy and spoke to the young ones. “Well little ones would you like some toys to play with. My little Losa Tincmaeg… mmm what shall we name the boy?” She asked Dante and nuzzled the male through his blanket.

Dante stared at the object in Reo's hand. It looked just like Alu-lote, but just as clearly wasn't alive. He'd never seen a plushie before at all, and had no idea what to think of it. A toy? Like the rocks and sticks he'd played with as a young colt? The.. plushie.. certainly looked much softer then the things he'd grown up with. "That's.. probably good," he said slowly, also wondering what on earth a ball was anyway. He'd have to trust Alu-lote's judgement there.
He ducked his head down to nuzzle his little girl, hiding yet another blush as the compliment. So she wanted him to name their boy? "...Valerio. He's strong enough to bear it." He laughed a bit as the little colt caught his ponytail in his teeth and tried chewing the hair. "Hey you, I'm not edible! I hope that means you like it!"
