I used to text at work when I was at the call center. I was a freaking ninja. I sat on an outside row for the longest time- an outside row that butted right up against our site supervisors office and had a lot of foot traffic from both the site supervisor himself and various other higher ups.
This was a workplace where the policy was 'if you even bring your cell phone into the building, you can be fired.' I watched it happen to a guy I went through training with once because he had it sitting nearby charging and a supervisor happened to see it.
MEANWHILE, I'm firing off a hundred texts a day like the horrible employee I was and never got caught. That job was so mind numbing though, I was glad I had a friend who was equally willing to fire texts back from the call center that she worked in xD We kept each other sane between calls.
My current work has a policy of "Technically you're not supposed to have your phone in here, but, meh." It's a bit more engaging though, so I've really not needed to distract myself with it.

I'm working for a small medical billing company and I work part time for a psychologist who does mental evaluations for the state on people applying for disability.
