Whisper's answer relieved Riley in a way she could never have explained. Her face relaxed, and her hand immediately moved up to rest on Whisper's shoulder, squeezing it affectionately. You did not hurt my feelings. I was simply.. worried about how you would feel about me if you understood. Many people simply expect me to pick up where I left off, as if nothing has changed. But everything has changed, my friend. Her hand fell, but her expression remained affectionate. Everything has changed.
Whisper seemed like a delightful creature. Riley was legitimately surprised she seemed to be having so much trouble coping with social connections. I'm glad I decided to jump off of this roof, today. Riley murmured, looking out into the night again. It was a fortuitous event.

"Well that is just plain unfair of them. No one should ever expect that, Jack knows they'd feel the same way if they were in your shoes." Whisper let a grin spread across her face as Riley squeezed her shoulder. "Besides it's not like you are a weirdo like me. I mean, I'm working on my bad habits, but its nature, ya know? I can only not stalk my fellow boils and ghouls for so long."
She let a giggle snort escape just before her mirthful expression disappeared, completely gobsmacked by Riley's statement. Her glowing orange eyes grew large with tears, and she couldn't help but look like the saddest pup around. While she could understand why the ghoul felt that way, it was still such a sorrow filled moment. She turned, and embraced Riley as tightly as she could, whimpering and sniffling. "Please don't think that way, I'm glad you stopped, and I'm glad that you are happy about our meeting again, but that's so sad! Please don't feel that way..."

Riley's voice retained a lighthearted tone when she quickly replied with, No one should ever expect life to be fair. But her brevity left her when Whisper started to berate herself. In fact, Riley looked offended that she would say such negative things.
You are not a weirdo. You should never say such things again. You are a perfectly charming young ghoul, and there is no reason why you should-
She halted when Whisper flung herself at her, and Riley's eyes widened. Stopped.. what? Feel..? Whisper, what are you talking about?

"About jumping off roofs! You must have felt so terribly sad inside to want to do that, and I know that despair. Well, not the same situation, but it's such a terribly painful thing to go through. You have a fresh start, and that's such a great gift. I wish I had that, even if it meant having to fall for Natalia all over again. It would be such a blessing to forget some of the things from the past year...." Whisper let go, fearing she may start to hurt the ghoul.
"Despair is terrible, but you have me now. You don't have to face it alone, and you don't have to hide it from me. It's like a boss battle. You just need a good team to beat it. You're not alone."

Riley felt incredibly guilty. Whisper was pouring her heart out, under the assumption that Riley was attempting to kill herself. A soft, dark purple blush tinted Riley's cheeks when the ghoul tried to convince her not to despair, and she reached out to hug Whisper tightly. You are incredibly sweet. She whispered into her mind, before letting go. I feel obliged to explain myself, as embarrassing as this might be. I am not suicidal, my dear. In fact, I quite value life. After dying once, I don't ever wish to do it again.
She leaned back, just enough to flare the bright, humming crystal wings out behind her. The crystals looked as though they floated, unconnected, in the air - slowly twisting and turning, but remaining in the vague shape that the invisible webbing of her wings held them. I was merely going to test these out for the first time. I've recently been informed that, at one point, I had the ability to fly. I'm so sorry for not explaining myself sooner.. will you forgive me?

"Oh.My.Jack." The ghoul's face turned such a bright shade of red, and she hid her face in her hands. "I'm so dumb, I'm so sorry, oh my goodness what the hell is wrong with me. I should have known."
Whisper curled into a ball of embarrassment. Of course she'd want to test out her wings. What the hell was she even thinking? If Whisper had wings, she'd want to fly around too. "I feel like a total jack a**. I don't even know why I jumped to that conc- oh damn it."
Even saying the word made her want to die from sheer stupidity. "I mean, if you ever feel that way of course I am still here, but oh Lordi. And probably just when I you thought I was smart." She peeked out from behind her fingers, unable to fully remove her hand shields.
"Of course I forgive you, it was totally my mistake. Can you forgive me for being so silly?"

Riley let loose a soft laugh and kept Whisper in her arms even as she curled up in embarrassment. You have nothing to be ashamed of. This is my fault, not yours. You knew I was having troubles, and you were worried about me. Why would I ever be upset about someone caring enough about me as such?
She ducked her head in and tried to peek through Whisper's hands. Come now. Stop all that hiding. Tell me about this interesting stalker situation you seem to have mentioned before you saved my life.

"It's just in my nature. The clan of hellhounds I belong to are trackers, and when we are young its hard to control the need to do it. Our targets don't really matter, it's the thrill of it that is just too alluring. It doesn't help that most of our elders encourage us to hone those skills, so the fact that I am trying to stop isn't making them very happy. Plus I know most don't want to be followed relentlessly, especially for no reason." Whisper unfurled from her ball and relaxed.
"I'm just worried I'll turn into my father. He's got an uncontrollable temper, and is equally unpredictable. He's honestly an animal..." The ghoul recoiled slightly at the memories surfacing, unwilling to let them fully show in fruition. Life before the academy was no less then hell...she honestly didn't know how her siblings were surviving. She was the only one to stand up for the others, though none did the same for her. A freak in her own family...and her whole family was a black sheep in the whole clan. Her father assured that. His lash outs and bad reputation of never really leaving a mark in healthy shape left a lot to be desired. "Needless to say we aren't close."

We are hunters, as well. Riley murmured easily, falling comfortably back into the conversation. From our birth we are trained the necessary skills of stealth and subversion, in order to capture our prey in the dark. Our schooling is equal parts intellectual and physical prowess. But I have a deep instinct to stalk and hunt, as well. Her face lifted in lieu of a grin. I haven't stretched my legs out for quite some time, but I was planning on heading into the forest one day soon for a bit of practice. I assume that's something people can do here. I wouldn't be surprised if it's something I've done before..
She sighed sharply, but her expression never changed. Have you ever considered a scouting partner? If your urges demand you stalk, the answer is simple - to prepare allotted time with an equal minded partner in order to satisfy those urges. She leaned closer and nudged Whisper with her shoulder. You could always stalk me. Or you could try. There was an unspoken challenge in her words.

There was a slight relief for Whisper in Riley's words. There was another similar to her, who seemed to be handling it just fine. She'd never really thought of taking a partner out, and now that it was brought up she felt so silly. That feeling didn't lessen as she blushed at Riley's last statement, though that wasn't a difficult feet for anyone to accomplish. "I can't believe I've never thought of that. I think that'd be fun. And jack knows we could both use some of that."
Her mostly usual grin spread across her face, as she thought of running through the woods, uninhibited by worry. It would be harmless, simply a game. No one would get hurt. "So yeah, I'd love that. You can count me in."

Good. Riley felt the meeting had accomplished something, and that was as good a moment as any to do what she'd come here for. So she stood up. Then I will meet you right here, at the break of dusk, two days from now. That is the day I was already planning to head into the forest for the hunt. Is that acceptable?

"Sounds good to me! Not like I had plans anyway." she let out a giggle, already looking and feeling much better. So much of what she had been harboring seemed to have melted away, and she couldn't be more grateful. However, she grew very tired, feeling as though she could sleep for a whole month. Definitely a side effect of the sweet relief she was expirencing, and she wasn't going to fight it much longer.
"thank you. Seriously, I don't think I could ever truly express my gratitude. Or my happiness really. I can finally call you a friend, and that is something I never thought i'd get to do." Whisper stretched and yawned; a very content pup.

Riley reached out and pulled Whisper in a tight, firm hug, before quickly letting go. I don't need your thanks. Just your friendship. It's as good a gift to me as mine might be to you.
She patted the ghoul's shoulder. See you in two days, dear. Her eyes crescented upward, before her body tilted dangerously, right off the roof.
And plummetted into the darkness below.
There was no thud to be heard, but every so often, far up ahead, a burst of muted light could be seen as her wings flared with power. She was just glad that was all that could be seen.. her first flight was actually a complete failure.

Whisper gleefully watched as Riley took to flight, figuring this was the best time to head back to her room. The night had turned out far better than expected, and she couldn't be happier with the results. She knew that in a couple days, it would only get better.
When she arrived back in her room, the ghoul immediately curled up underneath her comforter and slipped into a deep sleep. It was as though she hadn't slept for weeks...which was a partial fact. However, she was sure no nightmares would haunt her this night.
