"You totally do." Candace teased again, grinning now. He certainly didn't tackle like a girl though; a tackle from Otto had felt more like being slammed into by a living brick wall. Thanks for that. At least he didn't leave any lasting damage or anything.

That bug? She blinked and glanced Otto's way, trying to look disinterested when the fact of the matter was she was concerned. What had happened? Candace didn't actually know the specifics and something told her she didn't want to know. "Are you going to be okay?"

Otto shrugged, acting nonchalant about the whole thing. The less he accepted it the easier it was to ignore.

"I'll live." He responded easily enough. Talking about his feelings or worries was something Otto didn't even know how to do. So instead, he pretended they weren't there. Anger he could deal with, by punching things, flipping tables or throwing Tenya into someonething.

See? Healthy.

She was quiet for now, just watching the boy as he answered. Sure he'd live but was he okay? The two weren't exactly mutually exclusive. Candace would let it drop..for now. Opening her door with a sigh she flicked on the lights and gestured to the door that opened into her bedroom. "You remember where it is, right? Bedroom, door on the right. You can use my stuff if you want." She shrugged, feigning disinterest over the whole ordeal. No, she did not feel better helping Otto. Totally not. This didn't make her feel a little less of a failure, to help someone with a problem no matter how small.

Candace was taking off her coat and hanging it when she suddenly paused and looked Otto's way again. "Do you want coffee or something? I think I still have some tea that Dwight left behind if that's more your thing.."
PostPosted: Mon Sep 10, 2012 3:43 pm

"I got it.." Otto mumbled, heading toward the bedroom/bathroom area. He paused at the door as she asked him a question, turning his head over his shoulder.

"I hate coffee." He stated flatly, suddenly recalling his horrid encounter with Kat. Nasty stuff. "I don't like tea, either.." He mumbled after, shutting the door once he found the bathroom.

Teenagers. So pleasant and full of manners.

Finally, he was under the shower again. The suds from before had caked into his hair by then. With a huff, he grabbed Candace's shampoo. He'd just have to deal with smelling like a girl for a day or so.

It didn't take long. Not even five minutes went by and he was done with the shower. The now (finally) fully clothed Otto emerged, ruffling his hair dry with a towel as he came out into the main part of Candace's dorm room.

"Difficult brat to entertain, aren't you." Candace called despite Otto having closed the door already. She chuckled and rolled her eyes, heading into the kitchen to make something to eat. Sure, the kitchen was stocked with the bare minimum to remind herself it was only temporary, but she did like having it while it lasted. She had a feeling it was going to be awhile before she had the money and time to do to it what she wanted to do to it. But she wouldn't forget the plan. Nope. A closet was important. Her..thing.

A microwave and two tv dinners was about the extent of Candace's desire to cook or prepare a meal. She did put them on plates though, disposing of the boxes to at least pretend she put an actual effort behind dinner. Otto didn't have to know he was eating a tv dinner. Nope.

She was taking the plates out into the living area to set down down on the coffee table when Otto came out. She smiled. "Hey! Feeling better? Wasn't sure if you were hungry but I figured it wouldn't hurt." Candace shrugged and disappeared into the kitchen again, returning with two glasses of water. Everybody liked water okay. "If you want to join me, I mean. It's the least you can do after tackling me to the ground wearing nothing but a towel and then making me go into the men's bathroom..." She waved a hand almost dismissively as she sat down on the couch and sipped at her water, still smiling.

Otto nodded. He did feel better. Showers were magical in their healing of the soul.

And hot damn. Candace cooked? "Ooh.." Otto wondered if maybe he was in the shower longer than he thought. So far he was fooled. Otto joined Candace, sitting on the floor instead of the couch so he could be closer to the plate of food. He let the towel hang around his neck to keep his hair from dripping on his shirt.

He couldn't help but notice she seemed to be guilting him into joining. "Y'don't gotta convince me to eat." Otto replied, his sights set on the plate. He took a bite, furrowing his brows lightly. This taste was familliar... The strange texture of the potatoes.. the slimy coating on the salisbury steak... almost like it was a.....

Meh. Food is food.

Yes, Otto. Candace cooks. Yes. Totally. That is...exactly what is happening here. She cooked.

Yes...

Right. We'll go with that.

"Oh, good. Typical teenage boy." She grinned, leaning forward to cut into her steak. "It's not quite the steak dinner I got for you before but I can't afford to splurge like that every night. Besides, with the whole portal lockdown thing none of us can go get that kind of food anyway..." She sighed mournfully and distracted herself with eating, shaking her head. She wanted to get out. She wanted to do something. She wanted to...make up for her failures lately.

Maybe go back to that town in Quebec? Candace stared down at her plate, a painful lump forming in her throat. Yes, she wanted to go back to that town. There was so much unfinished business there. Whatever happened to it? Did Aria and Caelius take care of the source of the Insanity or did they get distracted by finding the missing hunters? And then...losing..two of them again...

Candace wasn't hungry anymore.

With a forced smile, Candace put her plate on the table again and plucked up her glass again. She didn't drink, it was just something to do with her hands for the moment. "So how're you holding up?" There was genuine concern in her voice now. Someone didn't run screaming with terror from a shower over imaginary bugs if they were fine.

Typical teenage boy indeed. He didn't mind being judged on that. It was when they called him a kid that problems arose.

"That steak was amazin'... dammit, you got me comparin' it now." Otto grumped, the small slippery pretend meat slab not longer quite as good. He could go for off island R&R soon, too. Food and arcades.

Her question had him glaring at her from over his shoulder, swallowing his mouthful with an audible gulp. "I said I was fine." He insisted stubbornly.

"I told you." Candace chuckled. "Yeah, this dinner isn't quite up to par with that. Maybe another time~."

His answer was one she expected. Stubborn. "Ah, I see." She sipped her water and just watched him. Yes, Otto. You're totally fine. "..I never took you as a gentleman, not wearing your hat to the table." It was an amused observation.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 10, 2012 8:40 pm

No hat?

Otto brought a hand to his hair. Oh right.. he'd dried it with a towel earlier. So his hat was... Otto sighed with a huff. "Naw, just forgot to grab it." He got to his feet and jogged back to the bathroom. How absent minded of him to leave it on the---

. . .

Otto came back out, looking around the floor.

"I can't find it.." He grumbled worriedly. That had been the hand knit hat from Molly. He couldn't lose that one. Any other could be replaced. But not that. Molly had made that for him as a gift; it cheered him up while he was bedridden.

It wasn't... in that bathroom..?

Ah, so that was it. Candace shrugged and turned to lean back against the arm of the couch, kicking off her shoes and bringing her legs up onto the couch with her. She didn't understand how he could wear those beanies in the middle of summer on an island in the middle of the tropics. Seriously now, Otto. How does your head not sweat like crazy.

He came back hatless and Candace blinked, frowning. "Could've sworn I grabbed everything.." Did she drop it on the way out? s**t. She wasn't usually clumsy like that. "If it's not here it could be anywhere between here and the men's bathroom downstairs." Craaaaap.
PostPosted: Mon Sep 10, 2012 8:55 pm

"Oh.." Otto shifted uncomfortably, eyeing the doorway with disdain. "I'm not ready to go back."

s**t. That was admitting he wasn't fine.

"I'll get it tomorrow..."

He really wasn't fine. She frowned. "It might not be there tomorrow..." Candace reminded him gently, finishing her water.

"Bugs?"
PostPosted: Mon Sep 10, 2012 9:08 pm

Otto cast a look at Candace that looked remarkably like a grumpy pout. It was.

"But I like that hat.." He muttered, ruffling his hair. Bugs. Ugh.. "That... it won't be there anymore anyway. Not that I care.."

Yet he wasn't stepping forward. Rationally, he knew it wasn't there. he doubted it had ever been there to begin with. But somehow the anxiety of that doubt prevented him from stepping forward and going back. Maybe it was in the hall on the way? Maybe. He struggled to find his courage, his hands absently fiddling with the fabric of his pants.

He wasn't asking Candace to go again. No way.

Candace watched him, her head tilted to one side. Yes, Otto totally didn't care. Yup. Okay. Totally. "Riiiiight.." She was quiet for a minute, toying with the glass in her hands. He was not okay.

"I'll go find your hat." Candace told him in a gentle voice. It wasn't mocking or irritated or even exasperated. She'd go find his hat. It hadn't been very long and he did say he liked it. Maybe they'd get lucky and no one would have picked it up. "You can stay here, make yourself at home." She climbed off the couch, collecting their dishes and taking them into the kitchen. "You're either very brave..or very stupid~. I'll go find your hat for you, be back in a few minutes, okay?"

She didn't accept any protest and left the room without another word, the click of her heels the only sound she made as she walked out the door and down the hall, taking the path the two of them had taken to get upstairs.
