Though it was a simple statement, it made his heart flutter again and he smiled at how sweet she was. Always be there. He repeated the words in his head, happiness filling him to the brim. No one had ever made a promise like that to him...not even his parents. It meant so much to finally have someone, and it meant even more that that someone was her.
He blushed as well, his face burning with happy excitement at the action. He smiled and then examined her mane, comparing it to his own copious amount of hair. "You're right," he smiled, "I still don't know how you keep the branches away, though." He laughed a little, feeling like it was a nearly impossible thing to accomplish but accepting it anyway.

'How do I keep the branches away? With logic of course.' Chatura giggled, her tail slowly swishing like a happy puppy. She would happily have stayed in this spot, just cuddled up against him, but her body had other ideas and her stomach made protesting noises, reminding the mare she had not yet eaten that morning.
'Umm..I guess maybe I should eat something.' she said, her nose colouring.
'Or we both should..before we get stuck here all day.'
She gave him a little nose touch and then untangled herself from his mane, looking for a good place to graze.

Logic. He smiled at Chatura and thought that was so like her to say. He didn't understand how logic could keep the tree spirits from playing, but he did not argue with her.
"I would not mind being stuck anywhere as long as you are by my side," he said. But he too noticed his stomach growling at him and nodded in agreement. It was time for food. He didn't like the idea of indulging his bodily needs, for someday he would be one with the spirits, but he couldn't help himself. He shivered at the absence of her warmth and watched her trot away, feeling a pulling motivation in his heart to follow her. He resisted a little, he didn't want to seem like a clingy foal following its mother. But after a few seconds he could not wait any longer and he was soon bounding after her like a giddy colt.
"I wish that food would just appear in my stomach," he joked, catching up to her and searching as well for a good eating area. It was hard to find any food out here, but they had done that on purpose. He thought about their usual grazing places and knew they were worn out by now. But he wasn't worried, he knew they would survive, especially now that they had each other.

Chatura found a good patch of grass after a little searching, and a tasted mouthful proved that it was not too bad given the time of year, she began to graze in earnest, moving slowly around as she ate, her tail gently swishing, the morning sun warming her back.
After a while she straightened, she wasn't full, as she never liked to be, but she had eaten enough.
'I'm sure many a hungry Soquili has thought the same. But the world doesn't work like that. We're part of the chain, and provide our own..umm, well. Vegetation is helped by what we leave behind.' she said, with a little reddening of her nose.
'Besides, if you really think about that, it would be the weirdest thing.' she chuckled.
'Surprising too.'

That was one thing he could agree with. While he was here on earth he had a duty to return to it what it gave him, and when he died and descended into the spirit world his body would help to feed the earth as well. He smiled at her blush, nudging her to let her know that he understood and agreed.
He munched on the patch of grass thankfully, but did not take any more than what he needed. If they could save some of the patch it would be easier later. "It would be quite strange," he chuckled, nodding his head. His belly full now, he scooted close to her and shivered slightly at a cold breeze.
"What now, lovely Chatura?" he asked, trying not to be too clingy but still let her know that he was excited to be with her. Whatever she decided, he would follow and he would be glad to accompany her.

Chatura was glad that he could see sense, she was sure he had been mostly joking but it was an interesting thought nonetheless. There was logic behind everything; life had its cycles - they ate the grass, but provided for new growth and insect life, and one day they would either die, which would feed the ground and scavengers, or (forbid the thought) may be killed by a predator. That was how the population was sustained and they were kept from overwhelming the lands resources.
'What would you want to do?' she asked, somewhat shyly. There were other lifecycles as well, ones which her mother had spoken quite frankly about when she had become an adult, and ones which apparently were fun..if not embarrassing to think about ones parents doing. But then...they were still just getting to know each other, and that was a subject to be broached on another day.
She hadn't even thought to wonder if he would want children..maybe that was a conversation they could have today, as it spoke of the future without needing to act on it now. So to speak.

"Let's do some exploring," he said, smiling at her. Usually he wasn't one for exploring. He liked to find a place that was close to the spirits and stay there. They had explored their surroundings to a certain extent, but they hadn't been brave enough to venture very far from their little home as of yet. But the curiosity to look around was burning inside of him for once, especially if it was with her.
Someday he would like to have children to share the world with, he would like to have a reason to explore. He wanted to show them the world, show them the way of the spirits. It had always been a dream of his, making a family. Ever since he had been left by his parents he had wanted a place to belong to, a family that he loved and that loved him in return.
He saw that possibility in Chatura. Whether or not that was her dream, he was not sure. Perhaps he would ask her one day. But now was probably not the time for such conversation. He didn't want to frighten her with such committed discussions so early on.

'Okay.' Chatura replied with a short nod after a little pause. Exploring was something she did with a certain amount of nerves these days; she knew they were somewhere pretty remote and the chances of running into a predatory Soquili were slim, but still..
Well, she was with Sastimos, and he gave her courage when she felt her own was waning. Besides, she had an inkling he wouldn't want to go anywhere without her, and she didn't want to disappoint him if it was what he wanted to do.
'Where did you want to explore?'

"Anywhere and everywhere," he grinned, "Where else?" He winked at her lightly and bowed slightly, allowing her to take the lead. He could see the hesitation in her eyes, and he hoped that she would want to go. He knew how cautious she was of the world, and he didn't blame her. He wanted to tell her that he would trade his life for hers, he would sacrifice himself for her safety any day. But he felt he had already displayed this so far, and that telling her would only be rubbing it in that she was just a little fragile. He wanted her to be safe, but he also wanted her to be comfortable. Suddenly, a thought popped into his mind. It was surely a gift from the spirits, it was too brilliant for him to come up with on his own.
The breeze caught the bells in his mane and tail, making them tinkle and ring lightly. He had really considered removing them before, until he had met Chatura and he had worried that their racket would alert predators to their whereabouts. He had wanted to remove them and leave them behind for safety's sake then, but now he knew that they could be used as tools for safety. He smiled at Chatura gently, bending to untie one of the bells from his mane.
He wasn't too sure how easily he could remove them, they had been there all of his life. But the spirits gave him a hand as he worked at a knot in his mane. When the shiny, silver bell came loose he smiled again at Chatura. He never would have considered this for anyone else, but something told him that she was special. She was meant to be in his life.
"Chatura, take this. As long as you have this, the spirits will always be with you as they have always been with me. This is how they can speak to you, and to me when you are lost. If we are ever separated, this will lead me to you. I will always be with you, and you will always be safe," he said, his voice strong and sure. This was a serious matter for him, no amount of bashful new-love could take that away from the situation. If she accepted this, she accepted him and he accepted her. If she accepted this, they would be bound together forever in heart, spirit, and soul. The spirits would mate them right then and there if she accepted his humble token. He wondered if she understood this, and he wondered if he should explain or not.CitrusCupcake Thought this would be a perfect time for him to give her the bell. <3 Hope that's ok.

Chatura laughed at his answer. It was the perfect answer, as it held an unvoiced sentiment - anywhere as long as it was together. She smiled warmly at Sastimos, tilting her head as he fell quiet, her ears flicking as they caught the sound of his bells. At one point they would have been a worry, a sound that wasn't needed as there was a chance it could bring trouble, but they were a comfort now, a little reminder that the best Soquili she ever ran into was right next to her.
She watched, wondering what he was doing, as he removed one of his shining, tinkling bells. and then her eyes widened as he spoke, the world around her disappearing as she felt the depth of what he was asking with the offering of one of his bells.
'I accept it, and I shall wear it with happiness..and love.' she said softly, looking at him from under her lashes. She tilted her head upwards and touched her nose to his.

His eyes glimmered at her response and his expression turned from its perviously serious expression to one that was more warm. His heart pounded as those purple eyes looked at him ever so slightly and elegantly. He felt her nose upon his and he ventured further to nuzzle her and to pull her in further. He carefully weaved the bell into her hair, until he could find a rope or string so as to put it elsewhere it would have to stay there for now.
He didn't want it to stop, but he knew the spirits would not let them stand there forever. There would be plenty of time to cuddle later. "Now, let's go on an adventure," he said, winking at her and grinning from ear to ear.

Chatura nested against Sastimos, listening to the sound of the bells soft chime whenever she moved. It really was like music to her now. Music of the heart. She felt saddened when he moved away, and then chastised herself for such a silly thought. They had their whole lives together ahead of them, and from time to time they would be apart. It was only natural.
She smiled back at him and nodded;
'Okay, lead on my love.'

He moved forward, walking at an even pace so that she could stay beside him. He wanted to make sure he could keep her within his sights because it still seemed too good to be true. Any minute now she would poof and he would realize she was a figment of his imagination. But she was still there as they walked further, and she was still there when he heard the rushing of water ahead.
He knew there was a small stream ahead, they had gone there often to refresh themselves. When they reached it, he bent to drink. Perhaps they would follow the river's progress. That was sure to lead them somewhere interesting. "Let's follow it and see what we can see," he said to Chatura, "that way, we can follow it back home and we won't get lost." This plan seemed perfect to him, as if the spirits had been planning their journey for decades.

Chatura took her place at his side, giving her mane a little shake, listening to the silvery sound of the bell that Sastimos had put there with care. Her ears caught the sound of water, a burbling, flowing sound that revealed itself to be a stream that they had been to often.
At least she thought it was, her sense of direction was lost in the giddyness she felt at belonging to Sastimos, though her musings were confirmed by the sight of old hoofprints, and when she placed hers over one of them, it matched her hoof.
'That sounds good to me.' she said, after having had a drink. Her teeth tingled slightly from the cold water, and she ran her tongue over them, before peering along the stream, following the course of it as far as her eye could see. She wondered where it ended. Or of course, began.
'One day..' she said, as she waited for Sastimos to set off again.
''We can tell..our children. Our grandchildren. About how we met.' she chuckled at that memory.
'And..and of how we found our heart's reflection in one another.'

He had started to walk but the word children caught his ears and he stopped to smile at her. "You're right, they'll be pleased to hear the story," he chuckled. He didn't tell her how much the thought of having children with her made his heart flutter. For so long he had wanted a family of his own. He supposed that being alone as a foal made the need stronger for him. The thought of raising a family with Chatura, the thought of never being alone again made him so happy that he could have burst.
"We will tell them how the spirits brought us together," he said, giving her a light nuzzle and then continuing on his way, moving slowly to keep her by his side. Now that he had her, now that he could see their future together, he never wanted to lose her.
