Luckily for Sherry, Jake was... well... quite oblivious to everything.

"Uh... I'm guessing when you guys first encountered them?"
He really didn't know.
PostPosted: Thu Jan 10, 2013 11:40 pm

Horsemen, horsemen. In a way, Sherry was thankful he had asked for information. It gave her something to focus on. Focus on and bury all the emotions she was still trying not to show.

"Alright." She nodded again, then looked around for a moment before motioning to a bit of old wall and sitting down. "My first encounter with the horsemen was when we destroyed their home, just like you were told."

She shook her head. "I didn't really encounter them then, though. Not too many, anyway. When we attacked, there were a lot of Halloween students there. That's where I ran into that doll that came back here after the last mission."

Sherry shuddered and cringed, then she forced a smile. "I do remember the room, though. We'd gone through the desert, and into a big cave. There were these glyphs, and we tried to figure out the pattern or whatever, but the students and the vines tried to stop us." Another shudder. "They were the worst part, really, the vines. I still have the scars from that." One hand slipped under her scarf to rub the back of her neck.

"But Clarice helped, and in the end, we did it. The islands exploded. We basically 'destroyed an entire civilization'." Wasn't what the doll had said?

"And then the insanity bird thing rose out of the rubble and flew through the portal and basically destroyed the island." She gestured around them.

Then she paused. "With me so far?"

It was a good thing she told him to sit down, because he could barely process the onslaught of information.

... glyph? pattern?
... insanity bird thing???

Oh wait, he remembered a bit of that from the HH mission.

... who the heck was Clarice?

Sherry's answer was greeted with a very confused look.
He was lost. So utterly lost.

"Sorry," Sherry looked down. Jake was just sitting there looking completely lost. She'd obviously...just spouted off a rapid fire of useless information. Good going.

Armagnac laughed.

"Sorry," she repeated, raising her eyes to meet his again. "I guess I just..." was lost such a torrent of emotion and thought that I got carried away.

"Let me start again." She took a deep breath. "We had a mission. We succeeded. In that success, we destroyed the home islands of the horsemen, and wiped out most of them."

She was pretty sure that those were the most important points of that part of the story. "Got that much?"

"So... let me get this straight. Your mission was to blow up the islands, or, the islands blowing up was a side-effect due to the success of the mission, which was..." he trailed off.
"... How exactly DID you blow up the island?"

Details were important ok?

He scratched his cheek.
"How... did you guys come across the horsemen in the first place?"
He needed to know EVERYTHING.

"I'm pretty sure the mission was to destroy the horsemen," Sherry nodded. She looked like she was thinking about it really hard. "It was a long time ago, and a lot of stuff happened that day."

She thought for another minute. "We...destroyed certain protective runes, if I recall." That's what she got out of it. "I mean, I think that's what we were trying to do. The room and the students were trying to stop us." She was nodding again. "Yeah. I think we got the result we wanted. You know how it is. Sometimes the details of the mission are...vague when we head out." She looked at Jake for a long a moment.

Sherry sighed. "I'm not sure when Hunters first came across horsemen. But..." she grew very solemn. "This one time, someone gained access to some old mission reports and stuff. It mentioned the horsemen. And the deaths of nearly 200 hundred hunters." She shook her head quickly. "I don't know all the details of that mission, and it was hidden, but it was obvious that it was very bad news. So, like, I don't know exactly how long we've been fighting them, but it's been going on for a while."

Another sigh, followed by a look of sadness. "Most recent, before that last mission, they attacked us. Here. They even kidnapped a few hunters. There...was a rescue mission, but I didn't go on it. Again, though. It was very bad." She stopped realizing that she was rambling again.

Jake tried his best to wrap his head around everything.
... he was failing miserably.

When she mentioned the old mission reports though, he was starting to understand.
The feud between hunters and horsemen had started LONG before this time, and from the looks of it, it looked like the horsemen provoked it first, starting the war on mankind.

So all this was just revenge... payback. To prevent them from exacting the same disaster of past times. This he could understand, and could deal with. For all he knew, those rotten scum deserved to die.

He paused, thinking about what Sherry had just said.

"You said... the room and students were trying to stop you. What do you mean by the room? You make it sound like it's alive or something.

And... why were the students stopping you guys? Were ALL of them stopping you? Because it looks like some of them may have broken off their alliances with them."

He was, of course, referring to that broken doll that had appeared on the island, offering her help, along with that mermaid he had ran into again. Heck, even that baku... Xiu, was it? She seemed pretty offended that she was grouped with the horsemen.

Students and horsemen.
Were they allies... or foes?

Sherry was trying. She just...things were all kind of jumbled. Every time she'd dealt with the horsemen it had been traumatic and emotional, and then there was just the way Jake made her feel. Even though was doing her best to pretend that hadn't happened and wasn't happening. But focusing so hard on the current topic of conversation so very hard just made it difficult to break it into easily digestible chunks. Or something. So it was probably a good thing his questions were getting less broad.

"It....felt like it was." She said, looking Jake in the eye. "I mean, the vines. There might have been something controlling them, but they were everywhere. Underfoot, and under our skin." Sherry shuddered. "It was like, the rooms had traps set up, or something." Looking back, it was all kind of a blur. Except for the pain. She remembered that.

"The students...I don't know. I think they were allies. All of them." The doll had been there. Sherry ran over their conversation again, and shrugged. "It was along time ago. I guess...things have changed." It...almost felt weird admitting it.

Huh, had he missed something? Must have been one heck of a falling-out if pretty much all the students were allied with them.

His gaze went back to Sherry.
"So... kinda like Deathsweeper, except with living obstacles."
Deathsweeper with golems itself was already bad enough, so he could only imagine how the horsemen lairs would have looked like.

"You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to." he muttered. "Sorry for prying."
The last thing he needed was for her to get all emotional on him. He really didn't want to deal with that right now.
If he only knew.

Getting up, he dusted himself off.
"Well, that was all I really needed to know. Thanks."
PostPosted: Sun Jan 13, 2013 2:08 am

Sherry nodded. "Maybe like Deathsweeper. Except worse." And really, not much like it at all. And the crap in deathsweeper didn't root around in your flesh.

"Huh?" Sherry was a bit surprised by his apology. "Oh, no, you didn't." She shook her head. "I don't mind," Sherry found that she liked talking about it, she just...hadn't really talked about it before.

And then he was getting up to leave.

"What?" Sherry watched him stand. Really? Truly? The life trainee didn't feel like she'd done anything close to a good job of explaining things. That and- "You dragged me all the way out here for that?"

She jumped up to her feet. "Don't get me wrong. I'm more than happy to help, but..." She looked at him, trying to find the right words. Words that wouldn't sound silly or run him off. "I guess I was hoping for more of a conversation."

She shrugged. Those were probably not the words she'd been looking for.

He crossed his arms.
"Yah, you got a problem with that?"
There was a huff, and he shook his head.

"Not really in the mood to talk." he muttered.
Everything was so confusing.
Hunters, horsemen, that damn HH battle...
He needed answers.

Sherry crossed her own arms. "Matter of fact, I do." Her face was something like a scowl, with a hint of a pout and a dose of playful thrown in.

"Oh," her face softened a bit at his statement. "Well, we don't have to talk, a lot. What are you in the mood for?" Sherry just wanted to hang out.

"Well then, I'll remember to ask someone else next time." he muttered, turning around.
He didn't bother answering her question as he made his way back into the facility.
To be honest, he didn't know what he wanted.

The scowl returned. Sherry hurried after him, walking quickly. "And why would you do that?"

"Because I apparently wasted your time." he mumbled, shoving his hands in his pocket, quickening his pace.
