Ara was just about ready to launch herself at Zach to try to get Silk out from under his blade when another snake lunged at him from the underbrush. She watched in shock as Zach seemed to ease up on the knife in surprise and Silk took the opportunity to slip free. He slithered quickly to her side and up her leg to finally settle once again under her hat, coiling in her hair and glowering from just under the brim.
She quickly debated simply leaving and not looking back, but something told her that Zach would only follow her. The last thing she needed was this encounter to turn into a game of cat and mouse, especially as she wasn't sure she would be able to outrun him.
The decision of what to do next was taken out of her hands, as another rustle in the brush preceded her unruly son trotting up to her with a triumphant smile on his face.
"Gabriel!" she said, shocked that her son had found possibly the worst day and time to slip away from her mother (who was supposed to be watching him, she thought to herself...). Gabe had gotten bored of Grandma quickly. She didn't help him with collecting rocks for his mom, so wasn't helpful to him. Momma liked rocks, for some reason. Gabe thought some could be pretty, but Momma liked all rocks. She made them into 'art', which was usually pretty in the end even if it didn't start out that way so Gabe could see the appeal.
"Found you Momma!" he cried happily, oblivious to the tense situation he had just walked into, "I found you s'more rocks." ------ Ara spent half a second praying to whatever spirit was listening before moving herself to stand between her son and his unknowing father. "That's great munchkin, but I wish you would quit running away from Grandma..." she said absently, focused on Zach and trying to brace herself for whatever his reaction might be.
If she was protective of her familiar, that was nothing compared to what she was prepared to do to protect her son.

Zacharael had been too busy holding a glaring contest with his own familiar before sighing. Pandora's intervention had saved Ara's snake from becoming minced up snake and perhaps it was for the better. Pandora continued to curl around Zach's tail preventing him from really lashing out at anyone.
The sound of rustling drew his attention to the bushes around him and he stared in surprise as a young colt emerged from the bushes. The exclamation that the young foal made though had the stallion pausing in consternation. This was Aresenciel's son? Zacharael took a step closer towards Ara to get a better look at the youngster. The coloration of the foal mimicked Ara on many levels. However that didn't explain the colors on the foal's mane. Zacharael glanced back to Ara and then back to this "Gabriel" before spotting what looked like a crescent moon shaped mark on Gabriel's cheek.
He growled softly before turning his gaze back to Ara. His crimson eyes burned dangerously as he fixated on the mare. "Explain to me why your son bears a striking resemblance to the both of us."
It was a command and a question rolled into one sentence. Zacharael would have the truth no matter what the circumstance.

If she thought this situation was bad before, it had just gotten ten times worse. This was just about the last way she wanted Zach to find out about his son...as a surprise in the middle of one of their fights. He took a step towards them and she tensed up, ready to push her son out of Zach's path if it became necessary.
"Gabe, why don't you take Silk and go play over there. Find me some rocks, okay?" she said, eyes still meeting Zach's and the tone of her voice making it clear it was a command rather than a suggestion, "Momma has to finish talking with her friend right now."
Gabriel looked curiously at the stallion who his mother was talking to. He was really big and had a lot of wings. Gabe had only ever seen other soquili with two pairs of wings, though his uncle had wings made of paint. He was curious, but knew when his mother spoke with that tone of voice she meant business. The last time he hadn't listened she'd made him stay home with Grandma instead of coming with her on one of her outings for art supplies.
"Oookaaaay," he sighed resignedly.

Zacharael watched the young colt with a keen gaze before returning his gaze to Ara. Although Pandora was still wrapped around his tail the stallion paid no heed to his familiar as his eyes kept returning to the colt that was now retreating from the general area with a hesitant step. There was a part of him that wanted to have the young one stay where he could see him. Somehow though he knew that Ara would hotly contest that idea. It seemed as though the fight was over for now but something else was about to begin.
Tension grew between Zach as the silence spread. His red eyes locked directly onto Ara's own before he managed to spit out what was on his mind. "Do you care to explain what the hell is going on here? Or is this something that I'll have to uncover for myself? Tell me Ara and make it quick. I fear that I am losing my patience with this little mystery of yours."
Zacharael's tail might have been contained at the moment but his wings trembled with rage.

As Gabriel reached what she felt was a safe distance, Ara relaxed just the slightest bit despite the enraged stallion in front of her demanding answers. She refocused on Zach. "Fine," she spat back, "if you must know that's Gabriel. My son. More accurately, our son."
She debated for a fraction of a second leaving it at that, but now wasn't the time for pettiness. Her son was in the same area as his father for the first time in his life and there was a reason she'd hoped this day wouldn't come.
"You're probably wondering how that's possible. Well, I made a wish. I didn't quite know the full story behind this 'Wishing Star' that everyone was going nuts for, so I made a wish that I would have a way to find you again - but only so I could get my rocks back, you jerk! I didn't really expect what I got from it...but I don't regret it. Gabriel's basket appeared the next morning and I've been taking care of him ever since." she finished. She'd started out glaring at him, and speaking quickly to get the whole thing out before he could interrupt. By the end of the brief explanation her voice and glare had softened slightly, though she still watched Zach for even the slightest indication that he would go after her son. Gabe might've been something of an accident, but he was hers.
Gabriel scuffed the ground with a hoof, pouting. There were no rocks worthy of his mother in this area, and Silk was being quiet even for the lazy snake. Normally he'd at least provide some entertainment, or answer questions, or something! Now he was focused totally on the dark stranger his mom was talking to and ignoring his efforts to find out what had happened before he'd gotten here. Gabe turned his attention that way as well, and frowned. The stallion his mom was talking to looked really angry for some reason. He wanted to go back over, but really didn't want to get left behind with Grandma or one of his Aunts and Uncles again. With a dejected sigh, he bent his head to look closer at the ground. Maybe there were some pretty rocks over by that tree...

If there had ever been a moment in his adult life when Zacharael would have been rendered speechless he could not recall of it right now. However that was exactly what he was experiencing right now as he tried to digest Ara's story. It had to be just a story, didn't it? But how would that explain the markings that looked to be a part of him on the foal. His sharp gaze flew back to Ara to judge if the mare was mocking him but as he saw her expression soften he knew that this was no joke.
Zacharael actually took a step back in shock. "Our son? Gabriel?"
How pathetic it seemed at this moment that he couldn't get out a full sentence in reply to Ara. He closed his eyes again and shook his head as if he were trying to deny the words that circled around in his mind. They wouldn't leave him. His gaze refocused on Ara before he craned his neck to watch his son move around. This wouldn't do. Zacharael shook free from the mental paralysis that held him immobile before seemingly walking forward in a straight line past Ara. At the last moment the stallion paused in his motions and spoke woodenly two words that he'd never spoken to another individual. The words were barely audible but they were there, "Thank you."
Zacharael paused before adding a parting shot to the mare as he spread his wings, "I still have your rocks hidden by the way." With that said he took of into the sky. He knew that she'd not follow him this time but he could not help but gaze back to the splotch of color that was his son.

Ara watched Zach carefully for his reaction. She didn't think he'd actually try to hurt their son, but she wouldn't have expected him to threaten to kill her familiar either but it'd happened. She made sure to meet his eyes as he processed her words. When he stepped back she nodded calmly in confirmation that he was indeed their son.
She tensed for what seemed the hundredth time when Zach started walking towards her (meeting with him was always so stressful!), but he only walked past her, stopping only to say 'thank you' which was a shock. Her mouth dropped open and she wondered how she was supposed to reply to that.
Her teeth made a clicking sound when she snapped them together in a scowl at his parting shot. She glared at his retreating figure but quickly shrugged it off. She didn't have the energy to maintain any anger at the moment, she was just glad the encounter seemed to be over. Now it was time to deal with her misbehaving offspring..."Gabriel. How many times have I told you not to run away from your grandmother!"
Gabriel cringed at his mother's stern shout. She only used his full name when she was angry with him...if only he'd been able to find some good rocks for her. That usually worked to get him out of trouble. With a sigh he turned to face his mother as she continued shouting at him.
