He was a tad startled by her sudden and focused interest in something he was only considering as a passing comment and not a topic of discussion.
Glancing back to the flower, he adjusted his weight a bit from one leg to the other. "You left. You didn't say a word and just left. Thought cleaning the entire place would be the least I could do for you...you know.." He sort of shrugged. "...after what I said."
Wasn't there anything else she could do in the greenhouse? Now he wished she had more than one flower to plant.
"I'm starting to get a history of not being the best company. You get to be lucky enough to have to put up with it." Congrats, Rin.

Rin smiled a little but suddenly realized she really needed to wash her hand, seeking out a small sink to do so before rounding back on the man, shaking the hand dry as she approached.
She offered the freshly cleaned hand to him, "I'm not going to lie and say you are the friendliest most welcoming person in the world... honestly, you are very reclusive and just... well... give you an inch, you take a mile. Request an inch in return and you throw up walls around the mile you took. You are a good person but... you covered that person in armor covered in blades so it's rather difficult to... well... eh.... see it, you know?"

He watched as she cleaned her hand and came over. Even before she was before him, he started to pull off his own gloves to put them into his pocket. "That's a bit extreme. I've said plenty of things to people."
His hands reached out, taking her own as he brought them to his lips, kissing the back of her hand. "I'm not THAT prickly." He said, intertwining their fingers together and appreciating that there wasn't any dirt under her nails.

Rin gave his hand a gentle squeeze when he finally settled to just holding it in his own.
"Oh?... What have you told me in all this time? Something real that meant anything to you at all," her tone kept soft and not at all harsh or accusatory, though her words did come off that way. She sighed and stared him in the eye, "Sorry if it seems harsh just... I try so hard and still... I don't know all that much about you after all this time."

He continued to hold her hand in his, turning it and examining the palm and tracing the grooves. When he considered what he told Rin, he wasn't sure out of all the conversations he had with her, what she would consider important. The only recent discuss that came to mind was in this very greenhouse, when he rejected her. In that moment, he had been honest, and didn't that say something about him? Even though she didn't get him a chance to explain, the moment felt too raw and personal to feel like it had meant nothing.
"I told you about the creature that attacked me as a child." It was one of the few things that came to mind.
Continuing to massage her hand, moving to touch her wrist, he glanced up. "You know more about me than most people."

Rin left her hand entirely to Melvin's whims, "True... but that took you having a mental breakdown first." She conceded mostly and offered a soft smile for his efforts, "Still... what drives you now? What do you hope to achieve?"

With Rin's hands as his prisoner, he continued to turn it about, move the fingers, hold it, and simply take a moment of luxury in touching another living being without his gloves on and without his mind screaming various couldn't that kept him from enjoying moments like these more often.
"What I came here in the first place. To find answers I asked when I was growing up, to stop or hinder the Halloween race as best as I can and my life allows, and to live as long and successfully as I can." He gripped her hand again in his. "To learn more and use that against them." He looked up at her.
"What about you?"

Rin smirked as her poor hand was thoroughly molested by the man, the grin relaxed as she actually got a straight answer out of him. She was willing to return the favour, "Honestly? I just... wanted another chance at life I guess. I wasn't exactly all happy and contented when I was offered this... that... and it was like finally being told I wasn't crazy... and I wasn't alone either. There's an entire island of people that saw what I saw too."

He stopped fiddling with her hand to settle on curling one hand under it, placing the other on top near her wrist, and kissing the knuckles once. (He had brushed his teeth after lunch and was allowed such a privilege.)
"Now that you have this new life, what do you want to do with it?"

Rin tilted her head to the side at Melvin, "Live it, really. Before I came here I was just... so focused on my studies that I just... I became a waste. I did nothing. I had no time for friends or socialising." Her hand suddenly slid from his touch to try and hold his cheek, running her thumb across his bottom lip if she got away with it. The look on her face thoughtful and a bit distant before she broke the serene with a toothy smile. "So far so good."

"Studying is never a waste, and if you had friends, you would have had to leave them to come here. It was probably better you didn't have any." He said, watching her as she took her turn, now playing with his lip - which made talking just a bit awkward.
"You should get other goals than just living." Melvin had a nice list of goals he had, both short and slightly long term. Nothing too far into the future because, honestly, he was still wondering how long that would be.

"What are your goals? Like, personal ones." Rin laid off Melvin's lip so he could answer but her thumb still threatened to invade his personal space if his answer got too wordy.

"Personal?" What were his personal goals. Well, there was learning more about Sasha and H and helping her project along, but Rin certainly didn't need t know about that. "Get better at being a hunter so I'm not a complete waste when the next mission comes around. Rise up in the ranks in the Life department until I have my own official lab. I'd also like to contribute in some way to help the Moon division." He was working on artifacts after all. Was that all personal?
His personal life usually was his professional one. He liked working and learning more. To find answers that he had been desperate to find when he was growing up ever since...
Yeah, that wasn't professional, but it was still there in the back of his mind. It was stupid to think about it seeing as he had no real way to go about it considering he wasn't a Sun and even, he'd have to be some sort of Lead to completely destroy her. Then again, he had been thinking about traps a lot lately.
"...maybe find a way to kill that one thing." Hopefully in a way that meant he wouldn't have to ever go near it. Distance made him feel better.

Rin was nodding thoughtfully at his answers until they ultimately lead to his truest personal desire as a hunter, "Kill... what?... That bug thing?"
