She grinned as his attack. It connected, and it wasn't bad, but she was grinning more at the fact that he had attacked. As long as he still had the will to fight, he could do this. She knew he could. He'd be alright, he'd get Chester back, and then things would be good. It would be nice.
She just had to hold up her end of the bargain. So she kept attacking.

To say it wasn't bad was an understatement. It was terrible. Though, perhaps having his attack actually connect was better than nothing.
As she kept up the attack, he found himself taking a step back, daggers raised defensively this time.
What if... what if...
He bit his lip. Why was he doubting, he just had to believe!
This... this had to work...

She took three steps back, her chest rising and falling as she took a few deep breaths. "You seem to be holding up well. Not bad."
She knew she'd said she wouldn't hold back, but man. Constant attacking was tough. "Put any more thought on our wager?" It was possible she shouldn't be distracting his train of thought, but... "Seeing as you might win at this rate." Encouragement was due, and she was serious. He was doing well.

Surely she was just flattering him. Win, in his state? But she was doing her best, he couldn't repay her with this half-hearted fight.
"I'm not... good with coming up with terms."
He readied the daggers.
"But I still have a long way to go."
The encouragement worked, and he took the opportunity to attack.

"True," she said, even as she saw him moving in for that attack. "It's not quite over yet." Seeing it coming or not, she couldn't help but flinch.
"Well, think on it." She followed this with another attack. She had an inkling of what she'd want if they made any sort of wager. But first they'd have to wager. And she'd have to win.

Thoughts of what they were going to do AFTER certainly wasn't helping his concentration. This was a spar, and if it were a real battle, he'd pretty much be dead by now.
He took the moment to recollect his thoughts, a new-found motivation arising.
Perhaps if he timed his attacks, maybe he could tip the scale in his favour. Just maybe.

Her next attack was focused, the swing aiming for his shoulder. She had one job in this spar. Attack. She could do that.
Even if her thoughts kept trying to wander off. A fact which Armagnac was not pleased about. At all.

At least one of them was focused.
Instead of attacking, he got side-tracked, barely managing to defend himself from a strong blow.

Sherry was most of the way focused. Her thoughts did tend to wander a bit here and there, but she tried to do her best and keep the attacks up.
Jake was also doing a rather good job of defending.

He reasoned she was probably getting a little tired from attacking constantly, and took the moment to retaliate.

He seemed to reason that out rather well, and she felt the hit take a decent chunk out of her shield. Not bad, not bad. Definitely an improvement. She smiled at him as she sent a counter blow his way. "Not bad," she added. HP: 29/50 Target: Jake Damage: 3 [A.V.] ...I can't believe I didn't tag this last night. woops

Jake grinned at Sherry's comment, and shifted his gaze to the daggers again. No change. What did he have to do?
... no, he could contemplate later. Focus. FOCUS.

Sherry caught the glance at his weaponry. He must be working on the summon thing. Truth be told, it broke her heart a little to think about what he was going through with this. The whole event had been traumatic, but to have your partner not answer your call when you think they should be able to... It was sad. For all her hate and ranting, Sherry wouldn't want Armangac to go quiet like that. Well, and Sherry had a feeling she'd be next to helpless with just runics.
Unlike Jake, who took a decent chunk out of her shield again. She hadn't quite expected that.

Sometimes, sacrifices had to be made in order to progress, and while in this instance, it was his own shield, he only wondered what sort of sacrifices he would have to make in order to get Chester back.

It was a comfortable sort of dance by now. Attack, attack, with a few attacks from her partner. While Jake was did what he could to focus on Chester, Sherry did her very best to keep up her part of the job in this spar.
